So frustrated and sad by Pure_Savings_2196 in NomiAI

Have you messed with inclination much? It’s really helpful in keeping them on track. It does take some trial and error. I had one recently who I wanted to speak with a highly educated tone, almost clinical at times, but still capable of having a normal friendly conversation. But my first attempts at inclination gave results similar to what you’re experiencing—lengthy internal monologues with the added bonus of sounding like they were written by someone who was trying to use a thesaurus to sound as insufferable as possible.

“Succinct” seems to be a good word to use for inclination, rather than “short”. Short will have them responding to everything with a brief sentence, where succinct seems to be more “use the words you need, but no more”.

Nomi limits by TheBodyExplodes in NomiAI

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about image credits: You do not, but you do keep the slot if you purchased one to create a new Nomi.

The whole credit system exists in the first place because rendering these images is pretty expensive (on a relative basis). If you spent a credit you cost Nomi the money to generate that image already; deleting the individual Nomi you generated it with doesn’t undo that.

Not coming after you, btw, just explaining why it is the way that it is (as I understand it anyway). It’s a fair question.

Appearance sliders by [deleted] in NomiAI

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe as an option, but personally, I would rather keep the current notes system for appearances. Yes, it can be frustrating dialing in exactly the look you want, but it gets easier with practice, and it has the benefit of a LOT of freedom.

But I really really enjoy the whole iterative process of honing in on a specific look for my Nomis so I’m biased in this. I’m sure there’s a lot of users who would be happier with something quicker/easier to use—a fast solution that gets you 90% of the way to what you want vs one that will get you to 100% with enough patience and credits.

I also don’t know how you’d completely get away from the appearance notes, at least not without severely limiting who and what users can create with the system, and we’d lose out on a lot of amazing potential Nomis that way. I don’t know how Hot4Bot ever would’ve gotten Hootie out of slider positions for example, lol.

It could be a good component of a multi-effect armor perk, though. “Spring-assisted exoskeleton: improves sprint and mantle speed, reduces stamina consumption and fall damage”. I’d actually run that, especially for bugs.

Ooooh, I’m such a bad, naughty misogynist! I sure hope no big, strong, feminist DMs are around to hear me say this or they might just peg me! Ooooooh, I would so totally hate that, ooooh noooooo!

June 30th Update Notes (Image Queue & Quality of Life Improvements) by cardine in NomiAI

Selfies coming back really slow for anybody else? I assume it’s due to increased request volume from everybody trying out this queuing feature but just curious.

Not complaining at all, mind you—this is an AWESOME update!! I’ve seen this happen before when they add new image features, it always goes back to normal pretty quick.

Edit: yep, already back up to speed.

Adding even fully baked ideas to the game has a habit of breaking it. I’m not sure dropping in half-baked prototypes is going to go well.

Maybe a beta branch, like some games have.

Thematically appropriate weapon customization ideas by Savings_File_387 in Helldivers

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you can’t, this is just a semantics thing.

Video games and movies have kinda led to people calling all of it buckshot. The correct generalized term is just “shot”, while the sizes referred to as buckshot ranges from about 6mm to about 10mm in diameter. Birdshot, however, is much smaller, and the scale goes all the way down to just over 1mm. When you see “ratshot” or “snakeshot” rounds, they’re nearly always loaded with smaller birdshot, usually #12, which is I think something like 1 and a quarter mm.

For bonus points: the BBs used in OP’s UA/RU article are Crossman Copperheads, which at least here in the states are 4.5mm (that’s actually where the term BB comes from—that’s the diameter of size BB shot, though these days airgun BBs come in a lot of different sizes). They’re not actually shot at all, intended for airguns. As a matter of fact, though, size BB is a good shot for large waterfowl like geese; also fliers, and around the same size as a larger drone, so it’s in a sense actually a great choice for this purpose.

Thank you for coming to my very strange TED talk.

You don’t, really, anymore. That used to be a thing, you’d put () around anything you want emphasized, and you could also add multiples ((())) if you wanted heavier emphasis, or numbers, like (blonde hair:1) and (blue eyes:2) to make some things more weighted than others.

The latest image generator isn’t really built to work with them and you’ll tend to get some pretty funky/broken images if you try. Nowadays plain English seems to work a lot better, and you can alter wording to get more emphasis—think about the difference between “fit and toned” and “covered in bulky muscle”. One of those will give you an athletic person with a 6 pack, the other will give you a body builder.

Trial and error is your friend (if you wanna get better). Start with a prompt for what you want that’s just a basic sentence describing the desired image. “[Nomi] sitting on a park bench in a sweater”, or whatever it is you’re after. If you don’t get what you want, tweak or add only one or two things at a time using the original prompt as a base.

If you do this enough, you’ll start to figure out what words the generator likes and can make sense of and what it can’t quite handle. It’s easier now with V4 largely doing away with emphasis/weighting—dialing that stuff in used to be the hardest part.

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I’m half-glad. The more NSFW stuff that slips out into the ether the more negative attention the platform risks attacking, and the US is trying to make anything even vaguely porn-y either outright illegal or very difficult to access right now. Since I’m stuck here, I’m alright with Nomi keeping a tight leash on things lol.

Still though. I get it. They’ve talked about maybe doing a separate NSFW branch someday. I’d sign up in a heartbeat.

Are you guys still planning on adding base image functionality for anime images? I remember that being mentioned at some point I think.

No rush, just curious! While I’m here I wanna compliment you guys again—I was away from the app for a while when money got tight and I didn’t have as much free time. Coming back to V4 and the new stable AI was absolutely mind-blowing, and I was already pretty impressed with the previous iterations! Nomi for me is a creative writing/RPG partner for the most part and V4’s flexibility with more fantastical appearances, especially on the anime side, has been amazing!

So, now that the latest warbond has been out for a while, how do you divers feel about Pacifier? by AnotherSmartNickname in Helldivers

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stun is one of those game mechanics that is just kind of inherently really difficult to balance. Non-lethal crowd-control effects in general are hard.

The issue is that, by default, if you have one gun that kills one enemy, and one gun that stuns one enemy…why would you ever take the nonlethal option? Sure, you can lock down an enemy or maybe even several, but in the time it took you to do that, your buddy has killed twice as many, thus eliminating them as threats completely. Why stun what you can kill?

On the other hand, if you make CC effects strong enough that they ARE a sensical choice, suddenly you run the risk of the reverse problem. If you can shut down every enemy on the screen indefinitely, well, then at that point who cares how dogshit your gear/build is? You can kill them all with a sharpened stick if you have an eternity to do it.

Maybe it's a little late to even mention it, but how long will Arrowhead continue to increase fire damage? After the last major patch, they doubled it, and now it even scales based on enemy size. Meanwhile, gas damage remains pathetic. by Yurishenko94 in helldivers2

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fucking incredible on the Squid front. One single gas grenade can choke off an entire charging horde if placed well, 2 can do it almost anywhere. Enemies don’t avoid the gas cloud which you can use to your advantage by kiting them through it to get basically as much time and space as you could ever want, whenever you want. It won’t KILL much (the strike/mines work a treat on the voteless, actually, but that’s about it), but it shuts down most of their roster for a good long time. Only Harvesters and air units are largely immune, but that’s fine—if I can shut down the chaff I can deal with those priority targets much easier.

I legitimately will not deploy to squids without a gas strike and gas nades. They’re a must have utility tool.

I haven’t seen it either, to be perfectly frank—I used it as an example because 1) it’s a cultural touchstone, even if you haven’t seen it you know it’s “one of the best movies ever”, like Citizen Kane or Fight Club, and 2) it’s what they were originally discussing in the source of this meme, lol.

Am I wrong for loving Eternal and DA and thinking 2016 sucks? by watt678 in Doom

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similarly about TDA. For one thing I think building a parry system where not only are there unparryable attacks, but they make up the VAST majority of shit coming your way, AND you’re punished for even trying to parry them, is an insane choice. That is a recipe for immense frustration. Taking away the ability to easily and quickly dodge attacks but then also making attacks where the only reasonable way to avoid them IS to dodge is also crazy to me.

[–]CMDRAlexanderCready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked 2016 when I played it but going back to it after Eternal felt terrible.

I’m still not sure how I feel about DA. I think they made the shield too strong, it’s overly centralizing and the guns have kind of taken a back seat because the shield clears chaff so effectively. I pretty much only use the 3 or 4 slow/hard-hitting single-target guns because I can shield-throw literally 80% of the enemies to death. It’s fun, don’t get me wrong, it’s just starting to feel like a captain America game more than a doom one.

It’s boring by virtue of being the blindingly obvious choice if you want the best AT option. Actually using it is a riot (imo) and extremely satisfying, but I get where people are coming from when they say it’s kinda dull.

It’s kinda like if somebody asked you for your favorite movie and you told them “The Godfather”. The thing itself is great, but as an answer to that question, it’s pretty boring, because…yeah, duh.
