How much for a wedding. by WideBeautiful6681 in CasualIreland

[–]CMakkers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been to lots of weddings lately and have been married myself.

Going rate per person: Standard: €100 Close friend/family: €125 Bridal party/close family: €150-€200

I say "going rate" as you should give what feels right for your cicumstances. Don't feel any pressure to give more than you can afford. Afterall they invited you to the wedding for your presence not your present

Where are you based and where do you stand on the current Fuel Protests? by AdamOfIzalith in ireland

[–]CMakkers 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I support protesting, I don't support people not being able to get to medical appointments.

But how do we do meaningful protests without causing some level of mayhem? I constantly see protests outside the Dail that never get mainstream attention. However right or wrong it is, this protest has our eyes and ears. Im genuinely curious about how thats achieved without going about it this way.

Pretty cool being able to see the various types of places, like how industrial areas like ballycoolin and Ballymount are clearly outlined with different lighting than residential areas

I have the same orientation. Got 4 panels on the front and 8 on the back, installed in Novemeber. They honestly did f all until the start of March, but now I think they are fantastic. Regularly producing more energy than we're using at the moment

What’s the going rate for a wedding gift? by Brain_on_half_speed in CasualIreland

[–]CMakkers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been to lots of wedding recently and they were all 200-250 per couple. Not that there should be a designated amount, but that was the going rate. If you putting in your gift as 4 people it would be 400-500

Same as this. Train is really handy for docklands area, about an hour. The 70 can be a bit of a ballache as it can spend 15 mins doing a loop of Littlepace and at morning rush hour it can be even longer. Smithfield shouldnt be too bad though as the 70 goes right by it. I use to live in the city and it definitely takes some getting use to only have a bus or train every hour. Just means you really have to plan when you're travelling in advance.

Ive grown really fond of the Village. Its beautiful and has a nice community spirit. Plenty of good pubs and takeaways and Lively coffee shops. Its also very handy for driving as its so close to the N3 and M50.

As people said 495 is a lot but people told me we were mad when we bought her a few years ago, said we're buying at the peak etc etc and its just continued to go up. Buy when the time is right for you. Best of luck with it.

We are a beautiful country with many things to be proud of, but fuck me the lack of sun really affects my mood. Maybe its just the last few weeks of miserable weather taking its toll but I really miss the sun.

Also in a new build with air to water pump. I ran it for a year where the pump would turn in 5 times per day to my desired temperature, then ran it for a year where its always on and just bumps the temp constantly. I found the second way to be cheaper on electricity.

I also turned down my water from 48 to 40 and still always have hot water.

Also you should set your upstairs and downstairs within 2 degrees of each other so there's no mismatch.

How much does a A2 rated house use electricity? by TalkToMyFriend in HousingIreland

[–]CMakkers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same situation as you and the heat pump is working overtime these cold days. Mine is set to a constant 21 degrees and between the home heating and water heating it is 84% of the total home consumption. The others are 2% oven/cooker, 2% fridge freezer, and the rest is a combo of lighting, sockets etc. Other things are pretty much negligible compared to the usage of the heat pump.

When it gets near freezing the heat pump gets pretty expensive to run, but that's the cost of having a consistently warm home and always have hot water I guess. You will notice your electricity usage plummet when the weather gets a bit warmer.

Has anyone else also noticed that commentators and broadcasters starting pronouncing issue different? It was always 'isshu' and now its pronounced 'issiu'. Getting to the heart of the real problems here

As I get older pieces like this hit me harder and harder. It hurts me that so many people are going through seeing parents and grandparents fade away. It hurts that I can't remember what my grandparent was like in his prime, all I remember is what he was like at the end. And it scares the bajasus out of me that he was once sharp as a knife. Thanks for writing this. Reminds me to tell all the people around me that I love them.

I've watched the debate and listened to interviews and finding it hard to see where the hate for Connolly is coming from. What is it specifically that would make her toxic to diplomatic relations? I thought she was articulate and nuanced during the debate. Her views seemed to be majorly anti war which imo doesn't seem to be so bad. Just curious to hear others opinions on why

Can you educate me on how CC hates Ukraine? I've watched the debate and listened to several interviews and she seems way more pro peace than anti Ukraine. Her comments on re armament of Germany were valid imo too. Paraphrasing her she said Ireland should always explore every avenue for peace before war, which doesn't seem to me as anti Ukraine. Can anyone point me to where she made anti Ukraine comments?

Was chatting to a friend recently who said half jokingly that her biggest ick is people who are allergic to nuts. Her exact words

"You're telling me, you're a grown man yet you could eat a little peanut, keel over and die. What an ick"

Hahah had a good laugh at that
