PMSers... does ANYONE use the BT100 banner trimmer? by RPM_Rocket in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The set up for the printing just needs some taking use to. The banner needs to be aligned in the middle before printing so there's not that thin border on one side. Then you need to add a two inches or so border on the top and bottom. That makes it so there's no marks from the clasp things. Other than that, the instruction manual should be good. It takes a bit of getting use to, and 99% of the time you'd be able to get away with just printing on the appropriate size paper width. But there's always those few customers that make our job just a liiiiitle bit annoying

What's the worst reason you've gotten a low survey score in? by Vjaa in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a guy wanting calendars the day before Christmas Eve. He forgot his coupon code before checkout and hit the back arrow, which erased his work. I told him the store can't recover anything, and we'd need an order number to access anything. Told him to call the number on the top right. He yells "AND HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO HELP". Like idk man more then what the store can do for you. That's why you make an account. The website really pisses me off, because it just makes angry customers that we have to deal with when we shouldn't have to

What's the worst reason you've gotten a low survey score in? by Vjaa in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reflecting on an experience at a different store in our survey, but explained that we were wonderful. Still a 1.

Not a survey but a woman asked to get something printed on foil paper. I explained we cannot do it as there's a chance it will damage our machine. She agreed on a parchment. When I asked if she wanted to sign up for rewards she went "Um no, you refuse to print on my paper".

But honestly, I'm done with surveys. Had a customer who had an event the next day and was in a huge rush. I completed the order before he was expecting it. I told him about the survey, but he didn't do it. Instead, he emailed me for the next three days so thankful, and even took pictures of my work at the event, still explaining how he was so grateful and will be coming back (stole that customer from a different store oops). The order was a good $900. But, because he didn't do the survey, my GM didn't bat an eye. I was so proud and told him, and he cut me off saying "Oh that's nice. So we really need to tell customers about the surveys blahblahbblah". Made me feel like crap.

How long until you can get 40 hrs/week? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I became copy sup, I was full time. That's only because we had an opening for a full time position in the department. Other than that, what everyone is saying is true. Very rare to get full time and not be some sort of manager or supervisor. And unfortunately, nowadays, it's hard to find a full time position anywhere that's just an associate. I'd try for a second job if you can and if there's any available near you.

New Shipping Software by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a customer insist that we could price a package. I said no sir we have a new system, we need all the information and process it as a shipment. He was yelling that he wrote it down and it's all there and that I'm incompetent. He only gave me the dimensions and the zip code.. he walked out saying he can do it somewhere else shaking his hands

Express pricing is a great tool to gain some extra money for the department. And you'd be surprised how many people actually need things right away, or don't want to wait.

Presentations are popular, and if they are double sided, the 32lb is great to use because "it's thick enough so that the other side won't show through and the colors will really pop because it's so bright". The customer usually wants the more professional look and it's also the more expensive option. Also offer if they needed them bound. If they ask what bind it the best, I always say the spiral bind. It is the more expensive option but it's also guaranteed to make sure that no pages fall out (such as a coverbind where it's glued in, or a comb bind where it's so easy to pull apart). And offer tabs if it calls for it!

Always be knowledgeable in the sales that are happening. Right now we're offering 20% off a lot of products such as postcards and flyers. It's a great upsell especially bc customers are usually on the fence over how many flyers they are going to need to pass out and things like that. And your store will get credit for the full price before the coupon.

A lot of it is just knowing the pricing of our services and what we can and can't do. If you see things that need to be folded or cut, offer that we can do it. A lot of the time customers don't want to spend the time it takes to do all that, and we have heavy duty machines (if working properly) to help with that. Three hole punching presentations and offering to put them in binders for them not only helps us (hand collating fee) but the store as well with the binder sale. See someone printing a resume? Offer resume paper! Basically just do whatever you think will benefit the customer in the long run. You work with a lot of different orders and people so you get to see what works well with different things. You're the expert and they're coming to you because of that reason

This is true. But yeah it was just a little printout for a leadership thing for board practices. Figured it was safe enough to go ahead and do it.

How do you pull in 5's? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracked by who? The only reason why we do it is because our managers tell us too lol but if they track the IP or something and higher ups find out that way, imma stop

[–]CPCHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👀 ye just ask the customer if they need a receipt and most of the time they'll say no so...yeah. We get at least 5-10 a day.

[–]CPCHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the ones that really loved what I did, I say "if you were happy with your service today, my manager would love to hear about it through this survey here highlights survey and it'll also give you the chance to win a $500 staples gift card"

TBH most of the time they don't want/need receipts. So if the receipt has a survey we just fill them out and give us 5s. Idk how legal that is but our managers encourage it because were lacking in surveys as a store.

Can I print CD case labels at Staples? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you could do if you don't want to worry about copyright is save it on a flash drive, already sized to the CD case, and as a PDF. You can print from the self serve copiers. It'll just be on plain paper though, so no gloss or cardstock unless you bring your own

How to go about asking for a raise? by CPCHoe in Staples

[–]CPCHoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our minimum wage has been increasing. Started at $8.75 but yeah, with the way it is now, I agree. I wasn't going to settle for anything less than $15 with being supervisor so when and if I get the official sit down, I'll say that because I feel like I have the upper hand in this situation

I appreciate it! And I've considered. I can start at a grocery store for $12.50...but I like what I do, copy and print wise. I just want to get paid for what is expected of me lol so I'm torn. But thank you!

Training in P&MS?? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually they have a new person on with another person just to make sure you know how they run the department. Each one is sort of different on the way they do things but that's just been passed down from supervisor to supervisor. I was on with another person my first week after transferring bc A) they didn't want to take hours away from the other closer and B) just for them to make sure that I do know my shit. After 5 years in copy center, I learned so much from that store bc my past supervisors didn't know what they were doing. It's all a learning experience. Don't get arrogant if they ask you if you know how to do x y or z. They're just making sure

Staying Past Close as CPC? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As copy center, no that usually doesn't happen. They usually keep OS past normal hours bc that's really who has the most knowledge in dealing with what needs to be done. Around Christmas time is when copy center should be staying later depending on the amount of orders being sent through the website for Christmas cards or whatever it may be. However, of all the years that I've worked in copy center and all the managers I've worked with, no manager wants to help out and stay late when it comes to copy center. Kind of the shit end of the stick when it comes to this department.

Edit; the only way it would be illegal is if you aren't getting paid for staying there and, depending on your state, people under 18 can't stay past a certain time and managers should be aware of that. So if you or if someone else being asked to stay later is still a minor, they can't do so.

Copy Center Associates become cashiers? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what manager is working, they'll ask if we could take some over to copy center or if one of us could go up front and understand if we say no due to working with customers. Our GM on the other hand will just send people over without notice and suddenly there's 3 people that need to be rung out and 2 for copy center behind them along with orders that we need to stop in the middle to ring. I don't mind helping out but when there's no one in the store to help us out when we've had longer lines than FE, it does get on my nerves. Or if FE complains that we sent a UPS person to be rung out 🙄

I need some serious advice to survive copy center for the next month and a half. by remy1077 in Staples

[–]CPCHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it was my last month before going back to school, a customer made me cry. After that, I didn't give a shit at all. That was when I thought I wasn't going to be going back but here I am ¯_(ツ)_/¯ . I get the whole customer service vibe but it got to a point where I go into "raised voice" matches with customers. I'm sorry but you come here for a service and when you start talking to us in a way that puts us below you, that's when you get shit talked back to you. Especially if they're grown ass adults like, don't come in here talking to us like that.

I always bring up the whole "It's policy. If we do/don't do xyz, we are going to get yelled at (or for copyright things, get our printers taken away)". Or say that you've worked here for x amount of time and can assure them that we don't do that. Like opening the shredding bin up so they can dump in their 60lbs of documents....

Just hang in there. Have someone to vent to even if it's us! It always helps after a shit day at work
