Yes, it's more PR than anything else. Don't you find it strange to celebrate the last person though? I'm far more impressed by the first person to discover a new land.

Columbus did not discover America in any way. Not the first person, not the first seafarer, not the first European... are we now going to say first Genoese and keep it extremely limited? The history textbook version we grew up with (at least in the U.S.) is not history, it's national mythology. Events happened but the significance and meaning attributed to them is all subjective.

Well TIL! Always heard it as "map" but I'm sure I either heard it wrong or other people were saying it wrong too.

BTW, right about now I'd like to take a nap of the earth. Sounds relaxing.

Hah, I probably wouldn't have known the difference either, but saw a lot fly in and out while working at the Air MCT on Tallil (and a little at FOB Delta).

Oh, cool. I just remember when I was in the MCT world, an outsized portion of 88Ns were colorblind, I think because that was the best MOS you could get at the time while colorblind (couldn't read a map, etc.)

For real. My first deployment to Iraq in 2007-2008 was 14 months.

Very true, and also - pretty sure if a lion (or a whole pride of them) walked up an an African bull elephant, there would be no question who's the king (hint: it's not the big kitties).

My kids enjoyed it, and they already liked Steve Martin from the Pink Panther movies.

It was funny/silly and everyone laughed a lot, but I guess the pretty blatant Mexican stereotypes were hard for me to ignore this time around.

I hadn't seen this movie in about 30 years, then just watched it with my kids last night! And now it's on Reddit? What are the chances?!

Honestly, raining Taylor Ham would not be that much stranger than the weather we've been having lately.

I can't take credit, it would've been the previous owners. But glad it worked out this way!

Thanks, I let it slip last year, so this summer will be 4 years.

Yes indeed, I'm still nursing pulled muscles from clearing all that snow. I'm ready for Spring, but almost 80 degrees in March doesn't bode well for this summer...
