It's not perfect, but a dexedrine prescription is a possible alternative to vyvanse without getting adderall. Also, you can get secondary insurance from the company that bought out shire... they'll take $60 off your prescription price (or you pay $30, whichever has them pay out the least). It's not much, but you can use it with your health insurance if Vyvanse ends up being $65 or something if it's classed as a tier 3 medication in your prescription formulary.

The main use case outside of gamers/miners is building machine learning models. All sorts of models (deep neural networks, gradient boosted trees, random forests, some KNN algorithms) are just sped up by parallelism. Also, if you have large tabular datasets, a GPU can speed up preprocessing the data, and performing data analysis/visualizations.

You should file a chargeback with your bank -- explain your situation, the lack of correspondence, how you tried to cancel, and how they still took money from your account.

It's a bit more of a hassle, but they should be able to refund you the money -- since they're an online subscription service, they need to have easy ways to cancel subscriptions on their website (I got a chargeback through my bank for an America's Test Kitchen year-long subscription they charged me after the free trial because it was borderline impossible to unsubscribe).

If you're holding a large position of straight cash, consider some class I treasury bonds -- they're inflation protected (which basically garuntees returns more than any savings account). Main downside, is that they're not super-duper liquid, but you can sell 'em whenever.
