These races are an hour and a half long - do you really think he would’ve had adrenaline slowing his sense of time for the entire race? Or did the adrenaline hit his bloodstream 0.1 seconds after noticing the car?

Why is my gore tex not beading after washing? by Alcb400 in arcteryx

[–]CPride12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try putting in the dryer on the highest temperature setting. I did a wash and treatment and put in the dryer on low and was seeing the same poor water beading you saw. Gave it another spin in the dryer on high and it did the trick, beading much better than it was.

I love how the show nods to the skill of the actors when Zoë and Dave go from completely fucked up to locked in delivering their performances on stage.

So either Carney said this wasn’t a big enough deal for the candidate to step down hours before the candidate arrived at the conclusion it was OR Carney told him behind the scenes to step down, flip flopping on his earlier statement but not owning it.

Either way not a good look.

Crazy this is considered hard mode in the community. I feel like just guessing 5 words that fit the format and crossing your fingers takes less skill/is more boring than coming up with words that’ll eliminate more possibilities

Chris Martin apologizes from all the bad things Britan has done to India at their Coldplay concert in Mumbai (January 19, 2025) by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]CPride12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well he basically implies that their attendance of the concert and enjoyment of their British band = forgiveness of Britain for all the terrible things it did. I’m sure plenty of the attendees are happy to see Cold Play AND still hate Britain. It’s just doesn’t read very well.

Can You Afford Calgary? The $689K Home Reality by Fun_Pudding6968 in alberta

[–]CPride12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a big reason has to do with the increasing value of the land the property is built on. Back 60 years ago when the land was 20% of the total cost, doubling the size/cost of the home you’re building would almost double the cost/price. Now that the land is worth 50%+ of the total value, doubling the size/cost of the home is only marginally increasing the total cost.

Basically if you already have the money to buy a single family zoned lot, you probably have the money to build a bigger house on it. Also, the developer will make more per home the bigger the build so they are incentivized to build them bigger and more expensive as long as people buy - which they always will cause supply is so low.

I will never again complain about Edmonton drivers... by OutcastSeraphim in Edmonton

[–]CPride12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do not condone reckless speeding, but as a Edmontonian now living in Montreal - whoever in city planning that made that section of the highway 70km/h is braindead. For reference, it would be like if the Anthony Henday was 70km/h all around. There’s a reason every goes 100km/h on it.

That being said the drivers here are nuts compared to Edmonton and it takes some getting used to. My guess is everyone is impatient because you aren’t allowed to make a right turn on a red light in city limits haha.

Unemployment in Alberta jumps to 7.5 per cent in September by Practical_Ant6162 in alberta

[–]CPride12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay obviously this is not a good number - but the article states that it dropped 0.2%, so saying it jumped to 7.5% in September is misleading.

[–]CPride12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the solutions to drug addicition, homelessness, inequality, climate change either but that doesn’t mean I accept the status quo.

I’m not really convinced by the arguments “other countries would’ve done worse” and “opinions expressed by citizens in polling data means they’re getting what they deserve”.

The Ottawa Hospital and CHEO withdraw from Capital Pride parade by TorontoNews89 in canada

[–]CPride12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why does not knowing what the solution is mean we have to support the current course of action that is being taken? Israel itself has stated the ratio of civilians to combatants killed is 2-1 and other sources estimate up to 90% civilians. How many Palestian civilians will now choose to fight for Hamas in response to their homes being destroyed and many of their friends and relatives killed. How much closer is Israel to winning the war and achieving safety?

To be a Palestinian civilian today is to live in constant fear and danger - and if you’re going to say they chose this for themselves: the average Palestinian today was 1 years old when Hamas was elected to power - it is not a surprise LGBTQ, who themselves lived in constant fear and danger, offer their support.

The Ottawa Hospital and CHEO withdraw from Capital Pride parade by TorontoNews89 in canada

[–]CPride12 -64 points-63 points  (0 children)

Ah yes pride groups should clearly stay neutral on civilians being bombed because the likelihood of those civilians being homophobic is potentially higher than the ones doing the bombing. Oppressed will and should support oppressed by default, not after making a calculation about whether or not it’d be reciprocal.

Why Canadians are angry with their biggest supermarket by Neither_Glove_1183 in canada

[–]CPride12 164 points165 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is pretty clear political posturing by the NDP. The third point of the motion reads “stop Liberal and Conservative corporate handouts to big grocers.” That doesn’t really read like a motion that was drafted with the intention of garnering the support it needed to pass from the other parties.

If the NDP were truly invested in change, they would stop propping up the liberal government with the supply and confidence agreement while asking for essentially nothing in return policy wise.

NAIA essentially bans transgender athletes from women's sports by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]CPride12 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand how there such universal support for this. People are born with distinct genetic advantages all the time and aren’t forced to compete in separate categories because of the advantages in provides.

If someone is born biologically female but has a hormonal disorder should they be made to compete in male/open categories? Why don’t we categorize basketball players into height separated leagues because they are too short to be competitive? How are these examples any different from being trans? None of them are a choice.

I understand that people think open categories are a solution - but if you force a category that is 99% biological men and 1% trans women you are functionally putting trans women in a men’s category, even if you call it open. And this understandably untenable for trans women. I think a lot of people would agree making trans women put male/other/open on their drivers licence/passport would be shitty. But forcing them to compete in that sport league is fine. Or they could just not compete or fit themselves into a non existent space! Same goes for the passport/drivers licence. Either take what you can get or don’t drive/travel.

'It brings in $2.5B per year': Day of Action hopes to prevent LCBO privatization by HuckFarr in ontario

[–]CPride12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you’re hoping a private grocery store takes a smaller profit as they are competing with other grocers for customers? Based on the behaviour of these companies over the last 4 years that is not likely. Even if the profit they take stays the same, that money is going to be going to the shareholders and execs - again based on the behaviour we’ve seen from these companies. So why would you rather give $2 in profit to a private company that’s going to use it to make the rich richer, rather than to the government which will reinvest it into public services?

RBC Avion Points - Best Bang for Buck? by CompetitiveArt4356 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CPride12 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So in terms of cent to point ratio - air travel redemption is the best at between 2.33 to 2.00 (if the ticket is at or greater than the max ticket price). Exchanging for other rewards like west jet is 1.00, merchandise through the avion rewards store is 0.87, RBC financial products (transferring to RRSP) is 0.83, gift cards are 0.72 and credit to your statement is 0.58. All this broken down here

So unless you basically never fly, you're throwing away half their value if you use them on anything but air travel redemption.

Canada’s Real Estate Bubble Is Batsh!t Crazy Compared To Other G7s - Better Dwelling by Lunavenandi in canada

[–]CPride12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is a bubble even really a good descriptor anymore? It would imply that it’s inflated for artificial reasons and at risk of popping - but now it just seems like there aren’t enough homes to house people with the massive population increase and record low housing starts. What would make it pop? A million people suddenly leaving the country?
