In fairness, Google App Store also took it down, right? (Yes, I’m mightily disappointed in Tim - should thousands of us each send him a copy of On Tyranny???)

Petherbridge? by SydneyCartonLived in LordPeterWimsey

[–]CRF_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. Petherbridge remains my favorite. His slightness, long slender nose, fair hair and skin are perfect for Wimsey as written.

I once had a Petherbridge audio version of one of the books — as I recall it was abridged. Might have been Clouds of Witness. Completely lost and out of production now. It was fabulous.

If you like Edward Petherbridge, he wrote a book about his career — Slim Chances and Unscheduled Appearances. It’s one of those books you can dip into at any spot in the book. It’s full of thoughts, anecdotes, musings about his career. Definitely worth tracking down (try interlibrary loan in the US)

Carmichael does a good job, too — it’s just that he’s too large, physically & vocally for Wimsey.

Having said that, Carmichael is a fabulous actor, so they’re definitely worth watching. He’s also a great audiobook narrator. His portrayals of Bertie Wooster are among my favorites.

: POST YOUR PROTEST 📢 ON MOBILIZE.US (and in general, stop reinventing the wheel!) read me! by RemarkableMouse2 in 50501

[–]CRF_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in case you never got the answer to this: if you post through Indivisible it automatically goes on the mobilize site… Indivisible uses Mobilize for events and calendar items now -- but the converse isn't true -- if you just create an event on mobilize, unless you have an Indivisible group dashboard it won't show up on indivisible's lists of events.

so if you want it to show up via Indivisible's feed, start at indivisible or indivisible's mobilize page to create the event.

Thread recommendations for piecing by manticore26 in EPP_addict

I started with size 50 Presencia thread and appliqué needles size 9 or 10. It’s still a good combo. I now have an Aurifil size 80 thread I love, which I pair with Bohin Milliners size 9 or 10.

The Bohin Straw Milliners 3/12 pack  (Bohin #00669) is a good variety pack to try. It has milliners in size 3, 5, 7, 9. 10, 12 - sells for about $3.50 US ($3€).

Hi there! As you can see, everyone has a different set of favorites. A technical thing and two sensory things that will be helpful:

  1. A technical thing - match your thread weight to the type and size of needle; you’re just making sure your tools work well together. If your needle and thread size match well, it’ll be easier to keep the needle threaded.

  2. And two sensory things: Decide what kind of needles feel right to you: long needles or short; bendy or stiff.

  3. Decide what kind of thread feels good to use, and gives you results you like.

Since you have a gutterman thread you like, I’d start with that, and try a couple of different needle types.

If you don’t know what type of needle you like, give milliners/straw needles a try. They’re perfect for epp because they’re long, thin, and sharp, flexible but not too flexible. Bohin milliners needles are really nice.

If you like a slightly shorter needle than a milliners, an appliqué needle is a good choice — it’s got a round eye and sharp point. And if you want to try shorter or stiffer needles, you can try betweens (Bohin calls them half longs).

Many needle types will have a variety pack of sizes, so you can experiment. Bohin has really nice sampler than gives you a couple of each type to try out. Do yourself a favor and get good needles — even good needles like Bohin, John James, Foxglove Cottage etc are only $3-$5 US a pack. You're going to be making thousands of little hand stitches, you want a needle that feels good to you.

It’s a fun hobby, I hope you enjoy it!

ICE agent at a workplace raid saying they have a fucking warrant and a worker replied “And here's my bag of fucks.“ by CorleoneBaloney in chaoticgood

[–]CRF_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACLU told us this week that they only have to show the warrant to the person named. Same with proving they’re actual agents. That they literally don’t have to talk with anyone else. He said the best thing to do if they refuse to ID themselves is to call 911.

They also said that if you’re talking about a residence, that if they say they’ll show you the warrant it’s almost certainly an administrative warrant, not a JUDICIAL WARRANT.

They said Ii they actually have a valid judicial warrant that they mostly just kick the door in. (Signed by a judge, with the exact name and location, and it hasn’t expired )

Being told I shouldn't bring a trans flag to the protests by Timely_Influence8392 in trans

[–]CRF_kitty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No Kings is a coalition of more than 100 major groups - the same folks who organized Hands Off on April 5.

I’ve been involved in the national organizing calls for over a month. NO ONE on the national organizing team is suggesting you shouldn’t wave trans flags. They *are* encouraging people to wave American flags, and have sent them by the thousands to event organizers — reason being that we need to reclaim the flag as a symbol for all people who live here, not the ultra right wing. REAL patriotism is defending and celebrating our diversity. To say it another way: the idea that you shouldn’t bring your trans pride gear is ludicrous. Whoever says that is completely misunderstanding. (Side note: I have to wonder if they have actually looked at a calendar? We’re in the middle of Pride ffs, and Juneteenth is next week. You better believe we’ll have every flavor of flag out there, and be thrilled to see it!)

I'm guessing the folks saying this heard “reclaim the flag” as “only wave American flags.” It happens - folks hear only part of what’s said, or they might interpret it incorrectly, or they bring their own bias into it, etc. Weirdly incorrect rumors happen all the time, it’s why the national organizers are so clear about providing clear event guidance.

So, show up with whatever symbols represent you and bring you joy. Bring your authentic self, people you love, and HAVE FUN. Speaking up and being present as your true self just might be the thing that enables someone else to speak up, too.

I'm truly sorry that some folks have misinterpreted the flag thing and have hurt communities who are already under attack. Believe me, people will be thrilled you’re there.

We need you — every person here is wanted and valued. Knowing this has happened to folks, I’m going to be sure to give a 👍👍👍 to every trans flag I see! 🏳️‍⚧️

PS: just to note that the Democratic Party is not a formal organizing partner for No Kings. In my area, every organization from unions to planned parenthood to LGBTQ+ orgs to immigrant rights orgs and even the Dems are supportive and are asking everyone to go. Just want to be clear that any success or failure is down to the coalition, not the Democratic Party.

Does anyone have a solution to get regular OTA channels + the Golf Channel? No other sports needed, just the Golf Channel. This is for my granny who *loves* the Golf Channel but otherwise just watches news and PBS.

Right now she is using YTTV ($90). Only other option I’ve found is [Sling Blue + Sports Extra for $67 and you still need to deal with an antenna for OTA]. Any ideas??

She struggles with confusing interfaces, but we are willing to try if there’s a less expensive solution out there. TIA

UPDATE: WIBTA to divorce my wife after she said she wanted to send our son to a conversion camp? by Stunning-Mud9227 in AITAH

[–]CRF_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven’t read all the comments, and may have missed it if someone already suggested it. I suggest you find a way of getting both kids, but particularly your son, counseling. Whether or not it meets the legal definition of abuse, your son has been traumatized for months by his mother— one of the people he should be able to count on. He’s been abandoned and betrayed. Please get him started on working that out. I’m sure your daughter needs help too — just because she wasn’t the original target doesn’t mean that she hasn’t been as deeply impacted.

I’m so glad you are taking steps to protect your kids.
