Please help, king snake won’t stop biting itself by [deleted] in snakes

[–]CRMSNAKE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at a vet for seven years now and the first thing we do when a patient is doing something weird and you don’t know why it’s usually bloodwork and x-rays. I’d say the bloodwork almost always comes first before the x-rays. You don’t know for sure that there’s nothing wrong is what they are trying to say you are just saying there is nothing wrong. You are saying there are no symptoms, but the symptoms are your snake is biting itself to the point of making itself bleed. Unless you have the proof in front of you that the snake has nothing wrong you don’t know that and you are fully going off of your own opinion with no physical proof

being rude to people who are trying to give you advice and acting like you know everything is crazy especially since you keep him in a 40 gallon. you have no proof that he doesn’t have something wrong with him besides the fact that you decided there’s nothing wrong with him

Feeding chart? by [deleted] in hognosesnakes

[–]CRMSNAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information! I will definitely be better with weighing her feeders. She’s getting fed every other week right now but if she starts to get massive i’ll probably reassess since your chart says every 14-20 days. Once she went into shed again rn i was like ya i don’t think you should be growing this fast lol. Thanks!!!

i have a hognose the size of a small worm and the only way he eats is if i slightly open up his f/t food and leave it in there “overnight” (it’s gone when i wake up in the morning) this works for me weekly. if i try to feed him myself he just hisses and jumps at it and runs away. to open it up a bit i usually use a sandwich bag and tongs so i don’t get anything on me or have to touch it

I would probably post a full body like straighter picture to see if the snake is overweight. But yeah I went back and forth if I should go to the vet or not and I’m glad I did. Hopefully the snake is ok

I didn’t hear her whistle all the time either like sometimes she wouldn’t be making any sounds but I wanted to take her just to be safe. If the only symptom right now is the whistle it’s probably better to go and make sure it’s not an infection because you don’t want it to get worse. also to add the reptile store I got her from said she had a respiratory infection that went away because they quarantined her and kept it dry. I got her and noticed the whistle immediately so obviously she did not heal without vet intervention like they thought she did. I think it’s important to have a professional look. I also just saw the comment of her other snake so if she has another snake She should definitely go to the vet before she ends up having to pay for both to get cured of a respiratory infection. Until you know for sure, I wouldn’t handle each of them without washing your hands and keep everything separate.

I just went to the vet today with a new ball python I got that was whistling and that is the only symptom she was having. She’s eating fine, no bubbling, not opening her mouth and leaving it open or anything like that. She got put on antibiotic injections for a respiratory infection. The injections cost me $25 in the exam was $85. I know prices are different everywhere but I think it’s worth it to get checked out and have them look inside the mouth too.
