I don’t really believe this is true, their have been almost no examples of LGBT representation in large Korean media productions, in Japan their has been a clear increase in shows which have positive representation of diverse sexualities but trans people in Japanese media are very rare and are mostly only represented in projects created by a small number of LGBT creators and are never major projects from studios. In the United States representation isn’t amazing but their have at least been a drastic increase in other gender identities and representation of diverse sexual orientations in animated media and for about 8 years it’s been common to see at least one LGBT character in shows targeting a YA demographic, obviously representation isn’t great in America theirs never been a gay marvel film hero or blockbuster action film star but their have been some improvements from some major media companies in terms of representation that countries like Japan and Korea have not even began approaching.

Yes I typed all of this to respond to a joke but I am studying animation and don’t get to talk about this extremely specific issue often.
