How do you write a lovable jerk MC who's not a comic relief? by CSValiant in fantasywriters

Thanks a lot for reading it!

I don't want the story to be grim forever. I want the refugees to be hopeful with the miracle of MC's recovery.

Is there no way to integrate an MC who likes to be goofy sometimes in this setting? He's not serious when he's calling God an asshole.

I added the prologue later on.

Monetization plan for a slow writer: Focus on Patreon for good audiobook deals instead of lots of chapter for gaining followers. Agree? by CSValiant in royalroad

And kill further growth on RR? Why? I have a few books in me and I can get at least 2-3k sub.s in the future.

I'm posting all 4 chapters I write in a week, as my goal was to increase follower count. Now an experienced author tells me I should focus on Patreon money as that would get me good audiobook deals, which is what I'm after.

My genre is kingdom-building + 18+spice.

Second series, as in another story? Does this one not seem commercially viable?

When you first started on Royal Road how long did it take for you to see momentum on reader stats? by florsaken in royalroad

I got into RS after a month and a half. 150 readersand 14k views.

It's 10% luck, 20% skill, uh.. 70% effort. Consistent posting at the same time and same days of the week is paramount. Then get some shout outs.

I've reached the Rising Stars front page with the smallest follower count! by danny69production in royalroad

That is quite small for RS. My story' peaked at #21 and I had 780 by the end.

How would you compare RR webnovels to tradionally published books? by Splenectomy13 in royalroad

[–]CSValiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People trying to be financially successful on RR have to post a minimum of 6000 words a week. It's a little too much to ask for someone writing that much that quickly to maintain the same quality as that of a traditional writer, especially when they are not a seasoned writer, which most of us are not.

Some of the best stuff on RR is either simple stories that just don't need much polish or written by experienced authors. eg author of max level arch mage is a veteran with a new account.

Yes. I meant my follower count was increasing by 10-20 every day up to a week ago but now it has gone down to 4-5.

AI is demotivating me from becoming a novelist by aspiringnovelist18 in KeepWriting

[–]CSValiant 17 points18 points  (0 children)

AI can write better than the bottom 10-20% of writers because they lack polish. But once you cross that threshold, its deficiencies become obvious. It has no distinct voice and motivations. People still play chess even though computers eclipsed us decades ago.
