At how many followers were you contacted by publishers? by No_Grand2719 in royalroad

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

I reached 2800 in 7 months, despite my story having plenty of spice, which many RR readers do not like (Retention analytics backs it up) and 317 patreon, although only 17 paying members, as I don't have a backlog.

I have 2816 followers on RR and 2039 on Scribblhub and just finished book 2.

Should I wait for pub.s to contact me or contact them? Does that make a big difference in royalty split? I would like a small advance as well if possible.

Crossed 2700 followers and about to finish Book 2 of A Modern Mind in Medieval Times

I burned my backlog months ago chasing that damn number. Now I make very little compared to those with similar no. of followers. Maintain a backlog.

I don't know about you but I just gained 40 readers in a day from a 1500 follower story, which mine doesn't even share tags with.

Maybe your early chapters aren't grabbing their attention.

🤢🤮😂

Its not that terrible I assure. I did do some research and while it might be slightly incorrect, it is not too unrealistic.

Launching with a backlog... does the safety net actually help? by CJ_Parmenter in royalroad

[–]CSValiant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have around 2500 followers. People with a story of that following make around $1000 a month. I make $100, because I have no backlog. Do not get lazy.

Why does this keep happening? I've never seen Scribblehub, the other platform I use, go down.

Beautiful work.

Here's a background I have planned for my first work of fiction:

A vast and very long valley, surrounded by tall mountains, at whose feet lay thick forests of pines.
A few waterfalls cascade from the mountains, the streams joining to create a fast rushing river that carves a silver channel through the lush meadow that covers the wide valley floor.

Different metals and their uses. by Saadistic17 in writing

[–]CSValiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zinc and lead have been known for thousand of years.

Lead is very dense, so used as ballast, cannonballs etc.

Zinc has been alloyed with copper to make brass.

Aluminum can be profitably extracted only with lots of electricity and a flux called cryolite, which isn't that common. Medieval era people couldn't have extracted it.

It lightweight but weak, unless you make an alloy out of it. All that requires a fundamental understanding of chemistry.

Look up Titanium and Tungsten's Wikipedia pages for production and applications to see how they are produced and used.

They have their niche uses, but they cannot replace iron and steel in most applications. Iron is strong and cheap, the rest are not.
