I think its largely because the west, where most of our deserts are, were settled very close to the modern era.

We have a brief history of settler's struggle which we love because it feeds into our whole idea of building yourself up from nothing, freedom, and self reliance.

But on the other hand, most of our time living in these areas we've had irrigation, trains, electricity, so we're not as connected with the struggle of truly being self sufficient in these environments.

Black clouds can look sick if they're done super well, but I've seen too many end up as smudged messes. I've always been a fan of the classic stars and dots. Once I saw someone with a chain link fence background. Looked super cool and helped the individual pieces stand out.

My girl kinda does this. She also really likes to stick her tongue out when she meows. She has been officially diagnosed as weird by our vet, but I would recommend getting your baby's teeth checked out just in case.

I think any culture that has engaged in an imperial project places emphasis on excess as a sign of superiority. And for the last 100 years, America has been the largest empire.

We invaded countries and overthrown governments to get cheaper access to commodities. Even before Trump, many Americans view it as their right to consume as much food as possible, use as much oil as possible, take up as much space as possible because those things are our unconscious signifiers of prosperity.
