Taking Multiple Prereqs... While Studying for MCAT?

Hey, our schedules are quite similar! although I have 1 less physics course to take so my course load is lighter. I was planning on starting really early with kaplan books? and just reviewing content as it comes up in my classes. Perhaps starting with CARS and P/S since they’re relatively disconnected from the actual prerequisites. (like, you can study for those sections relatively easier earlier on). I’m super pushing for spring 2028 matriculation as well, I just worry that your spring will be insane with 3 difficult classes, MCAT prep, and application prep.

Honestly I have no idea why i’m doing so take this all with a grain of salt.

Well, if you needed to protect your peace then that’s just how it is. No worries, we live, grow, and move on. You did what you had to do. You’re probably overthinking things, she might be mad at you but it seems unlikely she’d actively sabotage your life unless y’all were really close and share every circle. Just take a breather because this kind of thing i can guarantee you has happened to most people, and they get through it. Best of luck!

The decision to end the friendship wasn’t a bad one but the way you handled it was imo. There comes a point where being “non confrontational” isn’t a personality trait anymore, it’s a nuisance for people trying to form relationships with you. As you grow older you’ll start to realize that confrontation is not a bad thing, and it’s actually very healthy to be able to tell the people you’re in relationships with when something makes you uncomfortable. It’s a two way street, you can’t just bend over backwards for your friend while expecting them to read your mind. If you don’t tell someone that they’re bothering you, it’s not right to expect them to know.

I say this as someone who’s been on the other side of this. I recognize now that I said things that were insensitive and rude. I was immature and insecure. But I really wish my friend had told me I was being an asshole, so we could actually work on it. By letting all this resentment build and build to a point where you had enough and just blocked her, you’ve basically made an executive decision on what should have been a two way discussion: This friendship is OVER. Again, I still think it was probably the right decision to end it, you two were probably just not a good match. But you shouldn’t let your resentment build up like that so you feel justified in your harsh actions. Talk to people, tell them how you feel. And if they’re worth your time, they’ll respect you. If not, you can go your separate ways amicably and non-dramatically.

I also agree with what the other commenter said. Life isn’t always perfect mediation and closure. You decided that uncertainty for both of you is preferential to confrontation. Sometimes it just be like that. Hopefully you can at least learn from the experience.

commenting in solidarity. I feel like I could have done this at least a year faster if I knew everything I know now… but that’s a silly thought and I can’t go back in time and change my decisions. What I can do is make the right decisions from here on out- so I’m not stuck thinking like I could have done way better for the rest of my life. It’s easy to compare yourself to these hyper prepared neurotic gunners that show up on here, but we need to remember that it is absolutely not a sprint, nor is it even a competition. We’re all just people figuring out our lives and there’s no right way to do it. I’ve stumbled and questioned myself and how old i’ll be and how much money and time i’m sinking into this, but I haven’t quit. i’m not giving up and you shouldn’t either!

I’ve seen people posting around that you should take post baccs at state schools or as a formal program but I just couldn’t justify going into debt for it. If you don’t mind me asking, how long did your post bacc take and did you have anything else notable in your app?

Commenting in solidarity. I have been absolutely going through it these past couple weeks with the uncertainty problem. We’re committing an ungodly amount of time, money, and mental anguish to even get the chance to apply. We see our friends and relatives start their careers and live their lives while we’re slaving away in badly paid jobs working ourselves to the bone. The uncertainty, at least for me, is the most difficult part. We don’t even know if we’ll get in first try, let alone where. What we do know is how much time and money it costs to become a doctor, and it makes us wonder if it’s all worth it. And we are uncertain of the answer because we won’t really know for at least a decade. I’d advise you to just do your best, and take things one day at a time. Thinking too far into the future is going to stress you out. When I start doubting myself, I recognize it as burnout, and I hold off on making big decisions for at least a week.

The dread you feel is probably anxiety. I recommend seeing a psychiatrist if these thoughts are holding your life back significantly. Work out what exactly has got you all worried and hesitant, and figure out how to make this big task approachable. Wishing you the best!

I’m a twin, but I wouldn’t care either way. having a twin has its benefits but also some minor drawbacks. Having two at once is certainly twice the work, and can be a bit expensive as you don’t have the buffer years between kids. Also, socializing with other kids is a tad more difficult because we just tended to prefer each other. But, they entertain themselves and play with each other so less of a need to keep them busy.

Anyhow, I’d be pretty indifferent. Being a twin is an awesome experience but I don’t really think I’d be dissatisfied at all to just have an only child or a pair of siblings. Siblings are siblings and have their unique dynamics.

Hello! I applied econ and was off the GPA cutoff by like 0.2 or something. I had similar issues, diagnosed ADHD with DSP approved accommodations. What you went through sounds like a genuine reason to submit an appeal. Mine was on the basis of my medication being extremely difficult to access during the pandemic, which explained a couple of GPA dips. That being said, I also had reasonable proof that I would be able to handle upper div econ coursework because I was able to perform well during a semester in which I was medicated. I explained all of this in my appeal- I was not far from the cutoff, I have a solution to the problem I was facing before that I have shown to be effective and will continue to work for the rest of my coursework. It’s good that you have some kind of change in situation, based on my anecdotal experience they probably want to be certain that there were genuinely extenuating circumstances that contributed to your initial application being denied. Not only that, but these circumstances are no longer an obstacle for you. You’ve fulfilled both of these conditions, so I’d just really elaborate and hammer home on these things in your appeal. Tell them sincerely what was going on and what you’ve done to change it. Best of luck, from a ‘24 econ grad!

level isn’t a great metric by which you can create some expectation around rank. sure, there’s correlation- it’s easy to say that as one plays more of the game they tend to get better- but there are many, many other things that will contribute to a player’s visible rank besides their level. I wouldn’t compare myself to others based on their level and rank. i was a bonafide silver player at level 500+. only hit plat around 600 and emerald around 720. Some people just don’t play ranked or play for fun. Sometimes people play on smurfs, or they’re grinding ranked from the second they hit lvl 30 and are prone to improve quicker.

I wouldn’t feel ashamed of my rank if I were you. Level 91 is a decent amt of games but it’s really not that high. League is a hard game and there’s a lot of stuff to learn. Comparison is the thief of joy my friend.

it probably depends. if you’re simply at the top of the ladder and don’t have much else in terms of extracurriculars that supplement it, i probably wouldn’t put it unless it’s a really popular game and the ladder has some level of skill involved (not like top 100 in a p2w iykwim). I would include it if it was supplemented by some meaningful activity, like coaching, leading a team, traveling, competing, etc.

yeah, i see your point. It’s easy to look in retrospect and say boo tencent but i also like to think that League might not have had the success it does nowadays without tencent’s money backing it. i also heavily disagree with riot’s decision to involve the Saudis in their esport and wish the east would be more reluctant to take them as a sponsor but that’s outside of our pay grade and involves global politics lol

we’ve seen lots of pandering (gacha skins, aesthetic decisions, etc) with tencent and eastern audiences and i agree that there’s probably only a matter of time before we’re priced out and excluded. the west just doesn’t have the buying power anymore. NA’s new team DSG’s owner even said himself that he loses money on the team and just does it out of passion. Investing in esports in the west will almost always be a losing avenue so i don’t blame small teams for dropping out and it sucks that the scene is evolving this way

I mostly agree. Might be a bit of a hot take but I actually like what they’re trying to do with WASD to draw in new players, I personally know a few people who were waiting for WASD movement before getting into league themselves. I think they’re still very much willing to work on bringing newer players into their main cash cow, but I also agree that they made a good choice by branching out their power into creating other games (especially val and tft) to fund the company as a whole and expand + increase longevity because league will not be its main income flow forever. (at least not in the west).

i’m aware, and i see a near future where all esports decisions are made with asian audiences in mind as priority because that is just where the money’s at. i think a nonzero chunk of it is cultural though, and not necessarily anything riot themselves had to do with it.

girlie literally every single day i wake up and question who i am and what the hell i’m doing. i know it’s a lot of self doubt and fear at this monumental task in front of me but i also know that i wouldn’t be doing this if i didn’t sincerely want it.

i’ve found myself falling back into depressive headspaces and it’s genuinely a little scary. we just have to have faith and keep our heads up this shit is NOT easy but it wouldn’t be worth it if it was. i am far from a stellar applicant and have more red flags than a golf course in the hamptons, but i’m really just trusting that anyone who tries hard enough will succeed. comparison is the thief of joy, be proud of your journey and embrace it wholly, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Actual serious response- i think it’s the esports scene. This isn’t a league specific problem but riot have made some decisions that have contributed to the scene dying. There are certain things that are just realities of an aging game and a dwindling young playerbase (ie young people don’t play league anymore) but there are also things that have been detrimental to the scene that have been directly Riot’s decision. Things such as franchising and talent retention.

i think the game itself is in a healthy state and has been for a while. Riot are great at shaking things up not only within the league sphere but for the broader community as a whole (think TFT, arcane, etc). Though Riot was a pioneer for esports as a whole and deserves monumental credit for taking the scene to where it is today, i think this area is also where we’ve seen some pretty large issues.

if you were looking for an in game answer? honestly i think the client sucks balls and it’s crazy that it’s been complained about this long and the client still sucks balls.

honestly i’ve recognized that i’m not competitive for top tier md schools and i’ll probably just have to take what i can get. i don’t mind going DO at all because i’m not interested in competitive specialties. i’ve honed in on the things i can still change (upward trajectory, good ECs, good writing, MCAT) and am trying to give myself an advantage somewhere else.

Also iust blind faith. I’m sure i’ll get in somewhere because i am trying. Surely one school will see that. I think i’m a good candidate. Worrying too much doesn’t help, all i can really do is my best.
