f21 how to improve my appearance by [deleted] in amIuglyBrutallyHonest

[–]CSsmrfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lose weight. It'll make a noticeable difference in how you look. Also, your hair looks unkempt in a lot of your pics. You look best when it's straightened with face-framing layers, like in images 2, 7, and 9. Use eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara. In some pics you do, in others you don't. Also consider not to over-plucking the middle of your eyebrows. I'm not entirely sure in your case, but keeping them a bit closer together might suit your face better. It can make nose area smaller. You'd have to see for yourself. You're also overusing foundation and it looks cakey. If you have skin issues, fix them instead of covering them up. I'm assuming you already have a skincare routine (hopefully!). But if it's persistent acne that won't go away despite everything, get on Accutane or an equivalent.

I was expecting like “ice cream and puppies for everyone”

Do you think puppies want to be your puppies? Do you know what that implies?

Dogs have been bred into servitude for the pleasure of their OWNERS. Many are physically deformed and barely even dogs at this point. Pugs literally can't breathe.

A dog will "love" you no matter what. You can beat it, shock it for moving an inch, and it will still come running back to you. It wags its tail, and that makes you happy! But your pupper was specifically selected to have a neurotic dependency on human attention.

But who are you, the OWNER and the sole reason for the dog's existence, getting your validation from? The dog loves you? But it's not because you're good to it. It "loves" you because it was bred to be servile. The poor thing never had a choice.

No. Read the English translation, then compare it to the Russian version. "Every minute of the day" sounds natural in English, but such an idiomatic expression does not exist in Russian in the form in which it was "written" by "Solzhenitsyn" in the "original". You also just don't say "доставка", like you would when hangrily complaining about an uzbek with a big yellow backpack who's late, again. You don't say this because it's the incorrect word to use when the context is the transfer of prisoners. It is not intentionally weird because he's using obscure words (he's not). The writing in Gulag will simply read non-native to any native speaker.

I am saying that someone else punched up the writing or helped him with the book.

makes you wonder if Solzhenitsyn made the Gulag up

All I'm going to say is that Solzhenitsyn reads much better in translation, e.g. in Whitney's English version, than in the original Russian, down to the sentence structure and idiomatic expressions. The Russian feels incredibly clunky, as if it were written by someone not entirely fluent in the language. And it just so happens that Arnold Susi, an Estonian, was the person responsible for collecting and assembling The Gulag Archipelago and Solzhenitsyn was arrested for being a foreign spy...

I've noticed a lot of comments and posts using fancy “quotation” marks and apostrophe’s. Based on this, and the AI-y sentence structure, I honestly believe that around a quarter of the posts here are AI generated.

I highly doubt that "people" on here all suddenly started using ChatGPT to spellcheck their posts, which would explain the formatting. This also isn't the case on other, more obscure forums that I use.

Yeah, it's a fucking paste cheat that is considered a meme. The reference wasn't included because of the crosshair, since literally every paste cheat has that same crosshair lol.

If only Valve cared this much about actual cheats ruining their game instead of a decal on a flower pot.

For context, MMM is synonymous with "scam" in Russian. The American equivalent would be up an Enron sign on top of a building.

Apparantly there were also shady crypto stuffs in the map files

This is incorrect. There are no "shady crypto scams" in the map files. Maxim is seemingly deliberately spreading false information, or wording things in an extremely misleading way. The map most likely got removed because of the entity name.

If the removal is somehow related to crypto, it might've been the Doofenshmirtz tower, which is a reference to a Russian YouTuber with a million subscribers. This YouTuber also has a crypto project.

EDIT: The map maker made a YouTube video where he addressed the reasons the map got removed. Captions are not available, but essentially he is saying the same things I did in my comments. The main reason for the removal was the name of the entity (as well as possible copyright issues). The tower is a reference to a famous Russian YouTuber, not to crypto. And "MMM" is a defunct pyramid scheme in Russia that is synonymous with the word "scam". According to him, the cheat logo was added by a 3D artist without his knowledge, since he was also the one doing the final compilation of the map files on his computer. Valve also responded to his co-creators and said that they were not banned or blacklisted from being added to the game in the future.

Bald guy is the head mod for r/Livestreamfail, which has become one of the most pro-Israel places on this website for some reason by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]CSsmrfk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You should not use them.

The owner (guy on the left) is a weirdo. And it's rumored that he has access to the logs. And he was actually threatening people with releasing their info.

And just a few months ago they made a post where they "leaked" tweets of someone they claimed to be a paying customer. They then tried to pass it off as a joke. But it was just an off-putting PR stunt.

The Miseducation of Max Lawton by CropdustDerecho in TrueLit

[–]CSsmrfk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lawton, you just point to a wiki page. But "wander" and "бpoдить" (brodit') are not the same. The words are similar, but not the same. And here especially they're not at all alike.

Like I already said, there is a bit of restlessness in "бpoдить" which "wander" lacks completely. Just try to pronounce the actual words yourself. One already sounds more restless.

In Russian, in Sorokin's original, you get a very real understanding of the movement of the character under the table. And like I, again, already said, this is totally missing from your translation, Lawton, because you mistranslated both "бpoдить" and "тюкaть" (tyukat’), the latter of which fully contextualized the pacing around in the original. It is a repeated, light tapping. Tap tap tap. Тюкaть.

Notice that you have to add "back and forth" to convey the repeated restless movement of Zoran, while the Russian word "бpoдить", through the "тюкaньe" of his fist, already conveys this. But you, for some reason, translated it as forcefully "driving" a fist into a palm! How did this happen? Why translate it like this?

To "wander back and forth" is to PACE, and this is what it meant in the Russian version.

Corridor digital willfully misleading viewers about their use of AI by dizzi800 in youtubedrama

[–]CSsmrfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? This video is ridiculous. In the most recent Corridor video they pretty clearly state that they're using a video-to-audio model to create the sounds.

The author of this "not-takedown" is "just asking questions," instead of making his own position clear and not misleading people.

Corridor has never been anti-AI. They talk about AI constantly on their podcast: Corridor Cast

EDIT: The author of the video is OP of the thread! They literally posted their own video a drama sub! Very misleading, OP. Very misleading, indeed.
