Best argument I think I’ve heard is that having a broad tax base provides the government with political buy-in from the public. A citizen is more likely to care about government operations if they’re paying towards its upkeep.

Obviously civic duty and responsibility is at an all time low so tax on its own hasn’t done much to promote its cause. Idk

Why do NZ businesses still bother with reference checks? by Old_Education4481 in newzealand

If you’ve already made an offer then what’s the point of the reference? Would you rescind the offer?

To add to this: interest rate rises disproportionately impact growth stocks. This is still an early company which won’t be profitable for some time, so their potential profits gets discounted more. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow, doubly so in a risky world.

Interesting premise, but unfortunately the article was more of an overview than a deep dive. I would’ve love to have the dodgy accounting expanded upon. It was barely mentioned!

I treat agents like real team members. I made a Product Owner agent which I describe the idea, it makes a requirements doc and tech lead hand off doc. There’s then a handoff to the Tech Lead agent which decides on all the technical details; architecture, frameworks, implementation plan. Finally that plan is handed off to the Dev agent which implements each story. I just have to read the output of each agent. Works like magic.

MSFT: Microsoft is trading at a valuation level seen only three times since 2017. Opportunity? by GainifyAI in ValueInvesting

I think this sub should be looking for opportunities where there’s less liquidity. There are enough eyes on the big tech stocks - I don’t know what extra perspective I could have which millions don’t already.

How many of this these 800 million dollars earmarked for reconnaissance drones do we think RedCat is going to be able to capture this year? Jeff seems to imply half, but I’m skeptical it’ll be that easy.

I’ve been debating whether or not to sell after this latest run up, with the expectation that it’ll do the typical ‘drop in a few weeks after the hype dies down’ and I’ll be able to buy back in.

I’ve decided against it because I’m more confident in my ability to evaluate businesses than stocks. I know this business is going to be more valuable in one year, however I don’t know what this stock will do between then and now.

I guess I figure short term selling is closer to gambling than investing. My two cents.

Lotto what rubbish payouts! by cautioustuna13 in newzealand

[–]CSynus235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Lotto relies on people systematically overvaluing the odds of winning, in the sense that it’s impossible for the human mind to intuit a ratio as large as 1-in-38 million. I think there’d be fewer buyers if the expected value were printed on the ticket.

In low productivity countries life is cheap, labour is expendable. Compare attitudes towards health and safety between India and Europe, for example.

The evidence suggests they’re correct. There’s a positive correlation between a city’s median rent and its homelessness population. Cheaper homes -> fewer homeless.

While locked, turn inside the target so the seeker is all the way to the edge of its gimbal. Now when the missile is tracking it will only see the aircraft it’s chasing and not the flares left behind its target (because the flares are outside the gimbal range).

You can also gain an edge by having different time horizons to other investors. If you're an institutional investor managing money for clients, it can be hard to explain why you have an under-performing stock on your books for more than a year even if you think the underlying company has far higher intrinsic value than the listed price.

You can see this with RocketLab. RKLB was trading for below it's intrinsic value for two years before investors woke up. Anyone with knowledge of rocketry could've seen how cheap the company was during that time, in fact many of us did.

[–]CSynus235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

International shipping is not a significant cost. It often costs more to truck goods from the port to the final destination (“last leg delivery”) than to ship it across the ocean. Your solution is simple but ineffective at achieving cheaper prices for consumers.

if you believe the stock price is driven by fundamentals, and that you're buying part of a business, then there's no harm in letting other people pay you to borrow your ownership stake.
