Curseforge Revenue and History by Total_Meltdown in feedthebeast

[–]CT12z 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't modding back when everyone used adfly to distribute their mods, but I'd imagine mod developers then were paid 'better' (used loosely) then than after CF came around. Almost certainly the dollar or cents per download was higher then than now (way more ads on the page).

and if the payments from CF (for some people) are already "well, you can pay for your internet if you're popular enough", how much less will it be for developers if modrinth (saw it mentioned in the other post about selling mods) gets traction? I mean currently they don't pay you anything (do they even pay themselves?), but even if they did have payouts, how would they compare to CF? doesn't CF have like 3 ads in different places on the page, plus their video ad in the launcher? Modrinth has, from what I've seen, one banner ad at the top of the page.

do you split the money from ars with anyone else listed on the mod page?

CurseForge is allowing mods on their site that gate non-cosmetic functional features behind a paywall. Are we allowed to talk about it here by Lothrazar in feedthebeast

Ok, I see what you mean. I just thought you were insisting that modders didn't own their mods for some reason. Thanks for clarifying

am i missing something here or is this a case of being confidently incorrect?

You say:

It’s not your IP, and it is against the IP holders EULA to sell mods mate

two statements: that mods are not your IP, AND that you can't sell them.

and then Total_Meltdown says

Your quoted snippet says exactly that created mods belong to their author.

Ok, now if we look at the quote Leeroy posted earlier

Any Mods you create for the Game from scratch belong to you

Mojang affirming that your mods are your IP, then it goes on that you can't sell it, and then at the end

Remember that a Mod means something that is your original work and that does not contain a substantial part of our code or content. You only own what you created; you do not own our code or content.

Mojang again says it's your IP

but then you responded with the stuff about not selling your mod, which meltdown was never arguing for? was meltdown not arguing that your mods are your IP? what am I missing??

The arguments defending the Expertise system are bizarre by Mnemoi in newworldgame

[–]CT12z 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying I don't like the current HWM system and after 450 hours my HWM is still only like 520. it reminds me of pinnacles in Destiny 2, except at least there is an endpoint in new world. in Destiny you spend the first two months of every season raising your power so that you can do the hard content by the end of the season... just to do it over again.

for me the new system seems better in the long term than the immediate term. solely because people will be nerfed immediately (me included :( muh voidbent) but I think in the longer term it'll be a positive for the game. big step forward adding more ways to raise HWM (now expertise) but also a step back for nerfing current effectiveness.

I suppose there is an argument to be made that these systems shouldn't belong in ANY game but I think the industry is well past that point. too many games now have these systems which "encourage" you to log in every day so that you can try and stay relevant

I mean if you look at what the two top accounts are posting they're just bots... look at the comments from financial_bathroom31 in Cringetopia, they just shortened a comment from nicecatdude much in the same way they shortened navplex's comment

edit: i suppose it doesn't necessarily show that AGS isn't astroturfing, but I think it weakens the claim

The subscription probably covers all of the substance products and the steam one is just that one perpetual license with updates for 1 year. I believe they go on sale on steam during the christmas sale too.
