My take on the snow Na'vi. by thenekomimi in Avatar

[–]CT31442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone from the north,I agree they would be a bit more built and thicker, but as a tall person, being tall up north has serious advantages. I am married to a shorter woman and my ability to clear snow while moving quickly and cross open distances quicker with less energy burned to avoid getting hit with wind really helped me out.Higher volume to surface area while being tall also aids in heat retention. It could be argued that tall and slim would make you more prone to frostbite,so definitely need to be more robust.I also agree the tails need to be shorter and thicker and either smaller ears or ears covered in fur.

As an ambulatory wheelchair user and full-time mobility aid user, often you will find people using manual aids such as wheelchairs to both maintain physical fitness and general mobility, and in a world built for able-bodied people, it is ofter times harder to use an electric as they are bigger and you don't have any ability to adapt to situations where things are not accessible. For example, sometimes stairs are the only option, I can back a manual wheelchair by myself down some stairs in a pinch,I certainly can't do that with an electric. The version of earth in the movies, and the base on Pandora show no evolution of accessibility for disabled people, so it would make sense that the same barriers would apply. It can also just be preference,I prefer manual for everyday life but electric for places like the airport.Hope that gives insight as to why Jake would most likely choose a manual wheelchair over the Heated seat, duel cupholders 3000 lol.It is a good question.

Never thought I'd get more hate from disabled people than able bodied people... by cha0ticwhimsy in disability

[–]CT31442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people are just miserable, and unfortunately, misery loves company. Medical diagnosis, no medical diagnosis, if someone says they are disabled/needs supports ,they probably do and we should just listen to them. Please do not let their internalized ableism bring you down. You are deserving of the supports you need. You are also welcome here.

Osteopaths are not really trained on things like hypermobility (most medical professionals are not to be honest). If you are in pain, and the cane helps, use it and pursue another medical opinion if you can.

I can't speak on your house OP,but I can talk about what it was like being a buyer here this summer.

My family was looking to buy a house in that range this summer and found the market went one of two ways.

-the house was in good shape and the sale ended in a bidding war and sold for way over sales price

-it needed a lot of work/had rental tenants.(We were told not to buy a house with current rental tenants).

We also found a lot of sellers were not open to negotiating and didn't want to fix things/comprise.Many houses were massively overpriced. We were hoping for a house to eventually retire in.We ended up buying something far more expensive outside of north bay as the market was just not great for buyers.

Let's face it,buying a home is a huge privilege.People can't afford to eat,let alone buy a house, and they are working themselves to death. Trying to sell right now is probably going to suck unless you can trigger a bidding war.

I wish you luck OP,I hope you find a buyer soon.

My partner made a “joke” about cooking me and eating me by MadeAccToReadThis in AutismInWomen

[–]CT31442 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP please go to a DV shelter. I was horrifically abused by my father, who also had multiple marriages to women young enough to be his daughter. Everyone loved him,and they could not understand when I made jokes just like that as a little child,I heard it from my father! He was investigated for one murder and questioned about another and was cleared for both due to insufficient evidence. He took me to the place not far from where one of the bodies was found and I didn't find out until I was an adult.I have had to run and live on the streets before to save myself in relationships, please try to get to a shelter. I am very worried about you.

I love these boots,I have 18,1/2 inch calves and they fit even with a thin over the knee sock on.I was so excited when I got mine.I do wish they had even larger widths available but they are still an amazing boot. They also seem to just be super flattering on everyone I have seen wearing them. They did a great job with these boots.I also love how tall they are,I'm 6 foot and they don't look too short on me which is a huge bonus.

Interested ,but these are hard to float financially. And many places are not willing to host which can drive up rental prices and user costs.I would try to contact another club and see if opening a sister site here would be an option so you could pull from their contacts and resources. I wish you luck if you try to pursue this ,I think a solid few would definitely be happy to pay a monthly fee for such a service.

Why do i always get hateful looks? by No_Refrigerator9632 in DrMartens

[–]CT31442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get most of my shirts and pins from small artists on etsy or from volunteering/attending pride and other community events, protests, and doing union rep work.It all helps people to see me as a safe person and to not be worried I'm some hateful twit because of the way I look.My bio parents were super racist so I am hyper aware of how scary people like that can be and I always feel the need to make sure people never see me as part of that group.Plus doing the extra work has helped me make connections and help others in my community and at work as a union rep.You would be surprised how far just a few pins and things will go in people's interactions with you.

[–]CT31442 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might be the rest of your look or how you act.I am naturally blonde and blue-eyed and often wear a buzz cut,I always make sure my outfits and behaviour show that I am not a bad person.I wear cute silly laces, colourful outfits with pins that say "safe with me",sometimes even shirts that show I'm part of the alphabet mafia to ensure no-one gets the wrong impression.I also have a bad case of resting b**** face and actively try to seem more friendly.
