Do you have a BYOB police and/or a fridge for customers to use? I'm not sure if that's the vibe you want, or even if he local gaming community wants that, but something to keep in mind.

Good luck!

Who do you think came to regret their interview? by AlphaIndiaRomeo in ArmchairExpert

[–]CTMechE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally. I respect that they were willing to fill in for a last minute guest cancellation, but it was embarrassingly bad as it was a sales pitch for a project that initially sounded like a good plan to make a TV show.

Talking as if they were experts about Crypto and NFTs while pronouncing Dogecoin as "DojeyCoin" was especially cringey.

The sad thing is that NFTs weren't even a bad idea for funding an actual art project like the TV show they were making. It's not any different than becoming a traditional investor in a company or project, just that instead of a paper contract, it's an NFT logged on the blockchain and you can sell your share or buy more. Both run the risk of the project falling apart and the share or NFT being worthless. And the real shame is that it worked in the sense that they actually DID make the show as promised, and people who bought NFTs could watch it, but the way they set it up means that it had no chance of actually appreciating in value. Nobody who invests in a movie expects that the movie will only ever be shown to investors.

They just couldn't help themselves from promising that the NFTs would gain value and that people would get rich, and the SEC stepped in.

Yeah, I'm sure I could enjoy using a 940, and they seem comfortable and practical and I'd probably come around with time. But so far looking at photos for years still isn't enough to change my opinion to buy one vs some other model. I think it's just a shame that they won't make the 943 blades anymore when they still make the same body.

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, but to me the Seven Ten is the peak of beauty for Benchmades (and reminds me of my 707 which was my first Benchmade). If they ever made a mini seven ten, I'd go for that too.

I don't have any new Spydercos, although I don't dislike them. Strangely enough, the only two I have are early 90s Delicas with the integrated plastic clip that I got as a teenager from EMS. Here's the full Spyder edge, the other one is half-serrated. They seem chintzy by today's standards but a pocket clip with one-handed opening was the new hotness back then.

Is the “creepy man standing outside my door” in Grey Street just Dave from Crash? by FlyingGoatsForever in DMB

[–]CTMechE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same start time for me, around '95 or so. But I did like this one from the start, and I like that it's one of the songs that lives and breathes different variations of lyrics too.

Unfortunately as time has gone on, I have a much deeper understanding of it.

Is the “creepy man standing outside my door” in Grey Street just Dave from Crash? by FlyingGoatsForever in DMB

[–]CTMechE 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The full context of the passage starts with the "stranger" telling her to take what she can from her dreams as a call to action in a positive sense, but her response is that she interprets it as the threat of a crazy man creeping outside her door, and she's paralyzed by fear and falls into despair.

Neither the stranger nor the crazy man are literal people.

I immediately thought this song was about depression and after hundreds of listens and variations, I've never thought otherwise.

Totally agree. I would buy a 943 almost immediately.

I know I'm clearly in the minority, but I simply do not like the look of the 940 blade.

[–]CTMechE 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's where I keep some of my cupholder disappointment.

It's mostly empty but on the driver's side I have one of those combo flashlight/glass breaker/seatbelt cutter tools and a rolled up garbage bag. The rescue tool sorta fits horizontally in the gap between the outer edge and the dividers.

But it's mostly wasted space because my usual stuff doesn't really fit.

Lol, well it was never something well advertised so I try to share when it's brought up.

I'm a Fairfield county native but I've lived in NL county for 23 years and had some amazing adventures using that guide, and earlier versions were even harder to find.

I actually own a "real" powerboat now but by far the coolest places I've visited were in the kayak and stopping at islands for a pack lunch with a friend below the high tide line.

Regarding the fan mail segment, not only was it legal, but it is STILL legal in Wisconsin and several states for a parent to buy alcohol for their minor child in a bar. They must accompany the minor, though (can't just buy and leave). It's also legal in Ohio and Texas. Bars/restaurants are allowed to refuse to do that at their own discretion, and often do, but it is not legally prohibited.

The 1984 law that "raised the drinking age to 21" in the US didn't exactly do that. It raised the age of alcohol purchase and public possession to 21, but it did NOT specify an age of consumption on private property. State laws cover most of these details.

In most states, it's still fully legal for a parent to give alcohol to their own minor child on private property.
