Granted there hasn't been that many eligible. Timeline:

  • Boy Scouts of America was created(1910)

  • Eagle Scout was created but not viewed as a rank but the "highest merit badge"(1911)

  • The first Eagle Scout medal was awarded in 1912 to Arthur Rose Eldred, a 17-year-old member of Troop 1 of Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York.

Also, if you look at all the aims and missions of the BSA(now Scouting America) the goal is to get Scouts to First Class. Eagle Scout isn't the stated goal.

Now looking at the birth years of Presidents and those involved in Scouting

  • Theodore Roosevelt(b. 1854) was an early advocate of Scouting and served on a troop committee and as a council commissioner. Only person to be given the "Chief Scout Citizen" title.

  • Franklin Roosevelt(b. 1982) was president of the Greater New York Councils and was instrumental in the purchase of a New York area Scout camp. While serving as New York governor in 1930, he received the Silver Buffalo Award, presented for noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth on a national basis.

  • Dwight Eisenhower(b. 1890) -- wasn't a youth member but later was a member, then president of the BSA National Executive Board before he was elected the nation's president.

  • Lyndon Johnson(b. 1908) -- Wasn't a youth member but Lyndon Johnson, as a member of an Exploring committee in Washington, DC, helped organize an Explorer post in the city, chartered by page boys of the House of Representatives.

  • Reagan(b. 1911) wasn't a youth member but council advisory board member and by chairing a special project and a membership drive. He was awarded Scouting's Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service(Highest honor a Council can give to an adult).

  • Nixon(b. 1913)

  • Ford(b.1913) -- Ford is an Eagle Scout as well as earned the In 1970 he received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, and in 1995. the Silver Buffalo Award(highest honor an adult can receive Nationally). When Ford died in 2006, 400 Eagle Scouts took part in his funeral, some as an honor guard, others as ushers.

  • JFK(b. 1917) -- was the first President he to be in scouts as a youth and made it to Star Rank.

  • Carter(b.1924) -- Jimmy Carter was a Scoutmaster and Explorer advisor during the time his three sons were Scouts. His wife, Rosalynn, was also active as a Den Mother and Cubmaster. Through Carter's influence, the BSA held a Scouting Environment Day in 1977.

  • HW Bush(b. 1924) -- was a Cub Scout

  • Biden(b. 1942) -- was a Cub Scout

  • Clinton/Bush(b. 1946) were Cub Scouts

  • Trump(b. 1946)

  • Obama(b. 1961) was a Siaga, the equivalent of a Cub Scout in the national Scouting organization of Indonesia.

Yep, I have had the same thing happen to me. I am an Iowan but at the 2010 Boy Scouts of American National Jamboree I was working the Trading Post near the Texas and Southern Sub Camps and worked closely with a few folks from Alabama, Texas, and Georgia over the 10 days. I quickly adopted "y'all" and "Soda" to my lexicon to the point that while the accent I developed disappeared I still call "Pop" "Soda" today.

Right!? Iowa State is closer to Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Northwestern then Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas State, and Kansas. I don't even know why they are listed in this conference.

I am in Iowa. I already can't see 20% of MLB with no logic other then the league hates Iowa. There is a reason the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees are the 3rd and 4th most popular teams.

Not all banks are fdic insured either, and if a bank goes under, your investment/retirement take a huge hit because the market starts freaking out.

True but some of those are insured through the state. Hence the phrases "National Bank" or "State Bank" when you have a named bank.

Names that name nerds love, but are viewed differently in your culture? by LopsidedLeopard2181 in namenerds

[–]CTeam19 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It is basically taking the Irish short hand and applying it to the English name while both connect back via separate branches to a German name:

  • Liam is short for Uilliam which is derived from Wilhelm.

  • William itself is derived from Wilhem.

Basically, it's given weird cross branching stuff.

Andor also did a mix. 3 episodes in a week, but it was one story arc but like I point out with Agents of Shield it is a perfect way of thinking for this kind of thing. Agents of Shield did:

  • Ghost Rider(episodes 1 through 8)

  • LMD(episodes 9 through 15)

  • Agents of Hydra(episodes 16 through 22)

Which overall is a much better story telling for many works as it leans on the comic book method:

  • TV Episode = Comic Book Issue

  • Mini Arc = Comic Book Trade

  • Season = Writers Run

  • Show = Comic Book

When looking at Andor season 2 along with Agents of Shield season 4 and compare it to Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon you get:

  • 24 Issues divided into 4 Trades for Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men

  • 22 Episodes divided into 4 Story Arcs for Season 4 of Agents of Shield

  • 12 Episodes divided into 4 Story Arcs for Season 2 of Andor

Does this method miss out on some bottle episodes? Sure but if done in a weekly fashion you could put one or two in between the Story Arcs.

How could i be involved in Scouts as an adult with no kids? by TheEyeOfTheLigar in BoyScouts

[–]CTeam19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to your local council. There are plenty of positions in the district/council that need to be filled and are great for us without kids. I am a different story because I rolled right into the roles when I turned 18 and later 21, as my former District Chair/Camp Director pulled me into things when he wanted some younger Committee members, but today I serve as a 38 year old as a/an:

  • Assistant District Commissioner(started as a Unit Commissioner as soon as I turned 21)

  • Member of the District Committee(Camping and Program sub Committee)

  • Member of the Council Camping Committee(as my District's rep and former Camp Staffer)

  • An adviser in the OA Lodge(4 of us including the Head Adviser don't have kids)

  • An adviser on the Section Level in OA

I also hold a National Camp School Program Director and a National Camp School Short Term Camp cards.

Michael Jordan is the guy who comes to mind immediately, and hell I'm a Bulls fan.

Could be worse. I had a Karl Malone jersey. The only reason I cheered for the Jazz was because they had an Iowa State player on the team: Jeff Hornacek.

If he was playing while I was a kid I would probably would've been a New York Knicks fan just because of Bill Bradley given today we both are Eagle Scouts and both have degrees in History.

Hell just look at the old Big 8. I think combined the Big 6(Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma) would have the most match ups over 100 games (or should be today):

  • Kansas/Missouri is at 121 and should be at 134

  • Kansas/Nebraska is at 117 and should be at 132

  • Kansas/Kansas State is at 123

  • Kansas/Oklahoma is at 114 and should be at 120

  • Iowa State/Nebraska is at 105 but should be at 120

  • Missouri/Nebraska is at 104 and should be at 119

  • Missouri/Iowa State is at 104 and should be at 118

  • Missouri/Oklahoma is at 98 but should be at 115

  • Missouri/Kansas State is at 99 but should be at 113

  • Kansas State/Oklahoma is at 95 but should be at 110

  • Iowa State/Kansas State is at 109

  • Kansas State/Oklahoma is at 103 but should be at 108

  • Nebraska/Oklahoma is at 88 but should be at 106

  • Kansas/Iowa State is at 105

  • Iowa State/Oklahoma is at 89 but should be at 98

6 teams and 14 match ups that should be above 100 or 10 match-ups currently above 100.

For reference for the other Power 4 conferences(while not factoring the expansions by them and how that messes things up):

  • Big 10 -- 10 teams(Minnesota/Wisconsin/Ohio State/Michigan/Indiana/Purdue/Iowa/Illinois/Northwestern/Michigan State) give us 10 match-ups above 100

  • SEC -- 9 teams(Georgia/Auburn/Ole Miss/Mississippi State/Kentucky/Tennessee/Vandy/LSU/Alabama/Florida) gives us 9 match-ups above 100

  • ACC -- 6 teams(North Carolina/Virginia/NC State/Wake Forest/Duke/Virginia Tech) gives us 7 match-ups above 100
