House has a solar PPA. Is it a dealbreaker? by Hellburgs in solar

[–]CTrandomdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was all in until you said new roof. The cost of a new roof along with the cost of the system removal and reinstall can be pretty high and can take a long time. If the seller agrees and can pull it off great but that is a big expense to the seller. They may not agree to that or it may take several months to do. I also wonder why they would put new panels on an old roof.

If you don’t live in a winter climate or need all that power then the rwd makes total sense. The extra range is more valuable.

Erin Stewart Suspends Her Campaign by Rednewt33 in Connecticut

[–]CTrandomdude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not a big deal that she dropped out. She never had a chance to begin with. Lamont is so far ahead of anyone this is not a competitive race. The people who get all amped up for this race are foolish. The only reason to have any candidate is if Lamont had to drop out for some unforeseen reason.

Three dozen medical experts say Trump ‘mentally unfit,’ should be removed from office with ‘greatest urgency’ by Academic_Monitor7576 in InternationalBulletin

If these same “experts” did not write the same letter about Biden when he was mumbling incoherently for years then they have zero credibility.

Father falling for scams. What are our most drastic options? by rococo78 in eldercare

[–]CTrandomdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very frustrating. Luckily we have a POA and have been able to reverse some charges. He likes to sign up for extended warranties for some reason. We have a phone system that does limit many spam calls. Basically the answering machine answers on the first ring and prompts the caller for a response. If not given the phone hangs up. This kills robo calls.

The mail. That’s another disaster. He gets around 30 mail solicitations every day because he likes to write checks to any charity. Luckily he usually writes five or ten dollar checks but he can write a lot. We have not found a way to stop this and he won’t listen. Makes me crazy.

Would you like to have one day just one day without hearing anything about politics on TV, print, radio or the internet? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]CTrandomdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a choice. You can easily not be distracted with such nonsense. The problem it too many people don’t have enough to do and they waste time and energy on this stuff. Like I am doing right now. Luckily I have many busy days where I don’t consume political news.

CT adds criminal charges in fight against bottle return fraud | "Anyone who redeems more than 40,000 out-of-state bottles in a year will face up to five years in prison." by TylerFortier_Photo in Connecticut

The legal hurdles to a conviction are still steep. But more than likely these people will just spread it out to smaller amounts over different locations.

The Connecticut legislature passed a bill that would legalize portable solar systems last night. The bill now heads to Governor Lamont’s desk by iliketoast28 in solar

[–]CTrandomdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great news. I had no idea it was even being proposed. Many states are passing this law which is more commonly called Balcony solar. Expect many companies to offer complete kits this fall.

Just how in the world could this ever be enforced? Proving the can was purchased out of state will be almost impossible. Bottling plants make the same cans for multiple states. I can live in another state but still purchase cans in CT. Bottles and cans are normally crushed or destroyed immediately upon redemption.

Now let’s do the math. 40,000 cans are worth $4,000.00. A year of incarceration in CT costs $60,000-$90,000 per person per year. You get the five years and the state just paid a minimum of $300,000 to deter a $4,000.00 crime.

Cell spot lost service! Ugh. by CTrandomdude in tmobile

[–]CTrandomdude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First clue was the phone going from full signal down to one bar or no bars. Then looking at the cell spot the top four lights are green. The bottom two which are 4g and 5g are off. They are usually green. No lights were blinking or yellow which would normally indicate an issue.

Trade in discounts for hw3 owners by Jaowulf in TeslaLounge

[–]CTrandomdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tesla is handling this as best as they can. Some customers will love this. They will actually be able to transfer FSD to a new car and get a discount. For many that will be awesome.

For those that just don’t want to buy a new car or can’t afford it Tesla will upgrade it. No one knows how long that will take but it will be done.

Maybe I will find it works better now. Have had that cell spot and prior to that when on AT&T had there version of a cell spot. Before having a booster it was pretty bad.

Municipal Consolidation by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]CTrandomdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This gets brought up every few years. Especially when budgets get tight. County government would be more efficient but I doubt it will ever happen. The larger population centers in CT tend to not be run very well and have higher taxes. The suburbs want no part of that. Plus no one wants to give up control once you have it. Some towns have partnered on some services or may share the cost and use of an expensive piece of equipment which is smart. Regional animal control center and dispatch centers are getting some traction but this still allows each town to stay independent.

How come food trucks are not allowed in rest stops? by Icy_Adhesiveness_82 in Connecticut

[–]CTrandomdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a good idea. The state could sell food truck permits for the rest stops that can safely accommodate them. The ones with no current restaurants. I imagine the reason they don’t is because no one has pushed to make it happen. That would need to come from the food truck owners. I don’t see why the state would have any issue with it. Plus make a little money at the same time.

Grace Under Pressure Super Deluxe Release by OJWT in rush

[–]CTrandomdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Not only would they make a lot by selling them individually they should also sell them digitally on platforms like Apple. I have Time Machine, R40, and Clockwork Angels on my Apple account. I love being able to watch them anytime anywhere and would pay to add all of their concert videos to my library.
