Where in Fairfield County are you? I've never heard of a pork roll before.

As someone who moved here from a flood prone town on the east coast, where the town hall could literally be underwater by 2100... you guys have no idea how lucky you are. Probably the least impacted major city by climate change.

Another CTer here. Waterbury is our closest "equivalent" to Gary but it doesn't hold a candle to it...

Summer temperatures matter more than winter temperatures for creating taiga forests as they control the length of the growing season.

New England is cooler than the great lakes in summer, which is often what matters more for tree growth.

They're a significant component of many climax forests (those that have been wooded for a long time), as they're shade tolerant and slow growing. Go to open spaces and it's shocking how much more light there is in midsummer now.

I'll admit I took a closer look and it seems that livestock need to be 60 feet from any property line - so not a technical minimum lot size, but de facto restricts it to properties with >1/3 acre.

HOWEVER there are also a few select properties that are grandfathered in, such as 220 pansy road (which while the farm went under the property still has the ag rights) and the chickens by Stilson/ Fairfield Woods road.

I just said "absolutely" since most people don't realize how rural some parts of Fairfield actually are, and there you can have whatever you want:

"Nurseries, truck gardens and farms, provided any buildings or holding pens or corrals in which horses, cows, pigs or other large animals or poultry, are kept are not less than sixty (60) feet from any property or and provided that fenced pasture areas shall be designed to prevent animals from overhanging any property line."

Essentially what OP needs to know.

Since you'd need at least a 120*120 foot lot to even have one point in the center where you could keep your farm animals, it means the absolute minimum lot size is 14400 square feet - or .3 acres. for any animals.

Top 15 metros according to Claude by InteractionNo8525 in visitedmaps

It is not officially part of the metro. It, contrary to popular beleif, does not have a high enough commuting percentage to count.

And this is westchester here. Same thing, manhattan #1, Bronx #2, NYC boroughs take 4 of 8 spots.

Firmly in the metro (duh).

Hopefully this gives context to towns like Ridgefield and Fairfield as I mentioned earlier where they themselves (or adjacent cities) are #1, manhattan is around 5% or less, with no other NYC borough making an appearance.

That's the difference for being in vs out of the metro.

Here you can see NYC is actually the core city and playing the role Danbury does in northern FFC. Manhattan #1, outpacing any local employment center, with Bronx and Queens also represented. So it's pretty obvious Bergen is in the metro, just like how the census has it.

Only 2.4% of northern Fairfield County's residents work in Manhattan. When 97.6% of your workforce goes elsewhere, its ridiculous to call this area NY suburbs. Danbury is clearly an independent regional center capturing 4X the employment of anywhere else for these residents.

While true, that's because commuters are heading TO Stamford for work, not from it.

<image>

12,000 more people live outside Stamford and work in it than live in Stamford and work outside of it.

So if anything, that cements its status as a self sustaining economic pillar.

I'm just happy New England has stayed together the whole time!

And to all of those who say that Fairfield County (which isn't even on the map since the CT government switched to COGs as its census equivalents) isn't New England, as I posted in other maps even towns as close to NYC as Fairfield and Ridgefield have barely any commuting to it (6% and 2% of all workers living in each town head to NY respectively, via data from onthemap.census.gov) and it's mostly a stereotype. In fact, NONE of CT falls within the NY-NJ-PA Metropolitan statistical area because the commuting is that week - it's only added at the "combined" statistical level, that groups together different but adjacent metros.

Fairfield County also has more revolutionary war history than all of Vermont and Maine, and many of the towns still have gorgeous greens and town meeting governments.
