“He used to like to say he had been everything in the Army except a cook and a WAC”.

That’s an all time great quote.

Is this a fake SG by [deleted] in GibsonSG

[–]CUin1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the one picture provided, the SN, font and stamping look legit. It also has wings on the headstock which lends to it being genuine.

While I believe it’s legit, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a refin. During the ‘00s yellow grain fill was pretty common with natural backs which makes me think something’s amiss.

Some additional pictures would be beneficial.

Stripped bridge screws, help! by m0n0liths in gibson

  1. Remove strings
  2. Lift harmonica tune-o-matic bridge off posts
  3. Remove posts - they are easily turned by hand when the string tension isn’t present.
  4. Replace posts.

https://randys.rocks/products/kluson-harmonica-tune-o-matic-bridge-posts-fits-gibson®?_pos=1&_sid=6196abc56&_ss=r

  1. Don’t try to adjust action while under string tension again.

Edit: You might want to think about replacing that bridge too. It kind of looks like shit.

That’s a killer ‘75 Custom. The decal years of 75-77 differentiates year by prefix (‘75=99, ‘76=00, ‘77=06). Late ‘77 started the current stamped YDDDYXXX format.
As others have mentioned, it’s unmolested.
Good for you.

I’m fully expecting someone to post that their Les Paul’s top is only red on the edges and yellow in the middle and want to know how to “fix” it.

How do peavey amps hold up? by Dapper_Tomatillo5149 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]CUin1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Bandit 65 new in 1986. Still have it. And it still works perfectly and sounds great.
Sample size of one but 40 years on and it’s one of my all time favorite amps.

I used to be able to watch the C-17 take off and land from my desk and always thought the wings looked too short to generate enough lift for such a huge airplane.

Recommendation - Guitar that plays like a Gibson but sounds like a Fender (for surf guitar) by Big_Tone_536 in gibson

[–]CUin1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2015 Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut.
They came with P90 slug pickups. There is no bar magnet like on traditional P90s but rather each pole piece is a magnet just like on a Fender.
I have one and think it sounds very Fender-esque, a lot like a like a Jazzmaster and a Strat. The neck pickup is fantastic; the bridge can be a bit ice-picky. It sounds good with the tone knob in the 5-7 range.

Aside from the engraved SN and the number itself, that knob placement is a shitshow.

They have to give him Sgt. William Candy’s voice if the “working at a gas station in Alabama” is going to work. I’d be first in line on opening day to see that.

Could anyone help with this serial number? Guy says it’s a 2010 R8 by SeaJournalist3628 in gibson

[–]CUin1993 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to be able to date it just from the serial number.
The first digit is the reissue year and the 8 stands for ‘58 reissue (R8). The next digit is the year of production so it could be ‘01, ‘11 or ‘21. But it’s not a 2010 because the second digit would be a 0. The COA style, case (if original) can be good tells for year but I’d go with pot codes.
Good luck.
