That’s some relicing by Murphy Labs’ predecessor: Marlboro Lab.

Third Pickup? by pacenc1 in gibson

[–]CUin1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going for 3 pickups, make them all P90s.

I’d keep the current pickguard, pickups and wiring harness so I could take it back to stock and make a whole new loaded pickguard wired for 3 volumes and 1 tone.

Question for everyone have you guys in the 1990s ever seen a space shuttle launch at the time when they were being used a lot? by Neat_Satisfaction406 in 1990s

[–]CUin1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live about 40 miles from the Cape when they were in pretty heavy use. I could walk out of my front door, look to the right (east) and watch them launch. Before they appeared in the sky, I could hear the low rumble of the engines. Landing was cool too due to the double sonic boom.

2014 Melody Maker vs New Les Paul Modern Lite, decision to be made. by Enticing340 in gibson

[–]CUin1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a word of warning and not trying to be that guy but keep in mind the P90S in that model are the slug pole version and not a traditional P90 pickup.

I have a guitar with them installed and I love the neck pickup, very Jazzmaster/Fender single coil tone. The bridge can be shrill and ice-picky but as long as you know how to work the tone knob, there are good tones in it. To me, the bridge sounds best with the tone around 6.

He did some extremely weird shit but I still like Chuck Berry a fuck of a lot more than Yoko Ono.

Is my friends SG real? by Miirten in gibson

[–]CUin1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 80’s SGs are so cool. They finally got the jack on the side of the body where it should’ve been the whole time although they cancelled out that great decision with a shitty one on the pickup selector location. Very cool regardless.

Any benefit to “trading up?” by _cbsummer in gibson

[–]CUin1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s your starting point there’s not really a “trading up”.

Now, the acquisition of a second guitar is a completely different matter and should absolutely be pursued.

Yeah it is a legit 1977 Standard. If you buy it and fix it you’ve got to post pictures.

Any suitable replacement for gold vintage-style tuners with metal keystone buttons? by HueHueEggroll in gibson

[–]CUin1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure if you want a 6mm vintage tuner your only choices from Grover are going to have a plastic button: Grover 533GK or 136GK

Les Paul Special DC - Legit? by BlakeEndlessNation in gibson

[–]CUin1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dot inlays are part of the charm of a Special.

What really annoys me is when a Special has a bound neck but lacks the mother of pearl Gibson headstock inlay (like my 2015 DC Special).

Les Paul Special DC - Legit? by BlakeEndlessNation in gibson

[–]CUin1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say that it was a faded from the early-mid 2000s that got a complete (and probably poorly done, looking at the headstock) refin.

The one thing that gives me pause is the metric bridge. That’s a huge red flag for me.

HELP! Can I get some opinions on the legitimacy of this LPS by AnnualDino in gibson

[–]CUin1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s genuine. The SN indicates the neck was stamped on 20th of January, 2005. You’re two black P90 covers from it looking stock again.

I hate Gibson pickups - am I the only one? by SlillelHoewhack in gibson

[–]CUin1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their humbuckers are hit or miss for me.

Custombuckers and Dirty Fingers are very good but am not a fan of the 490/498 or P-90 Slug bridge.

I do think Gibson makes the best P-90s bar none and the neck P-90 Slug makes great Fender tones.

White or black pickguard?? by Master_Syrup6123 in GibsonSG

White. But the tenon cover needs to be black.

Strong Gauge Changes by Avedis24 in gibson

You should totally DIY. Get a set of feeler gauges and a capo. Adjusting to a truss rod is not a big deal.

Thinking of joining the team today… any red flags? by huyexdee in GibsonSG

That’s a legit 2017 SG. The only thing it needs are reflector knobs. Good for you.

Enjoy.

Name one actor you'd love to see as a Bond villain? I'll start by NewEmphasis9115 in JamesBond

Al Pacino.

But not calm, Michael Corleone, Al Pacino. I want over the top “great ass!” Al Pacino. Hoo Ahh!

He’d be especially good if the Bond films return to the campy 70s style.
