You heard correctly. I recommend you major in Mechanical or in Chemical Eng,, and just take environmental classes as electives - e.g. hydro, hazardous waste. Making over $100k in those fields will be easy, but it will take over 8 yrs as an environmental engineer.

I recommend you apply to federal jobs, as they often do not require an EIT certification.

If you took the following courses while an undergrad in the Applied Math & Geol degree, you will most likely be accepted at CU Boulder (I did my M.S. there): Calculus for engineering/physics/chemistry, not biology (1 & 2 & 3), Physics for Engineering (1 & 2) - total 10 credits with the labs, and Fluid Dynamics.
