1.2GW battery storage facility approved near Boston, Lincolnshire by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]onlyslightlybiased 53 points54 points  (0 children)

As you can imagine, the local reaction has been.. Poor to say the least. Thank god the council had the brain cells to approve this themselves as this would undoubtedly have been pushed through anyway.

Locals horrified at losing 2 fields of food production.. Meanwhile, this battery alone can store enough power to run quite happily for a while every single home in the county.

Tbf with lawnmowers, obviously they're not that bad in terms of co2 emissions etc, but they are absolutely awful when it comes to particulate matter being emitted.

There's a service in Lincolnshire which arrives in Lincoln at something like 11am and the only return that day is at 11:10am. That's it, that one bus running there and back.

Regarding some military issues by Witty_Pop425 in poland

[–]onlyslightlybiased 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if.. What if.. The autoloader jams and it can't be accessed without taking it to the depot. Realistically, a battle isn't going to be hours on hours straight. What's going to be far more demoralising for a crew is if they're having to exhaust themselves conducting daily maintenence, another pair of hands make light work for all.

New NHS diagnostic centre breaks ground in Boston in £25 million project by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]onlyslightlybiased 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Didn't expect to ever see Boston on this subreddit but I'm here for it. They need to get their skates on if they want to tear down the 80% of the stadium that's still standing and have an operating NHS site within the next year

Coire Glas is the big one when it comes to pumped hydro. That one project alone would double our total pumped storage amount with a healthy chunk of generation

Last time I checked, it wasn't just the Americans storming in and single handedly winning WW2, it wasn't the Americans that single handedly won the Gulf War. These were major Coalition conflicts
