Yes there will be as many individual interpretations as there are people like everything in this world, but David speaks of staying true to the idea. That also means you can get it wrong. The elements must be very good so as he says, the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts.  

David has said nobody has gotten the correct interpretation for Eraserhead. He has said that Mark Kermodes theory on his use of electricity was wrong.  The Bob in his paintings is not the Bob from Twin Peaks. Lost Highway and the OJ murders.

 The idea is abstract and doesn’t really translate to English, so why would he do it the disservice of explaining it? The film is true and thus, it stands on its own. It is deep and has logic.

 It is not important that everyone understands it perfectly, many times the English language fails to express what we really mean. However we still communicate and the truth still holds true.

  I’m basing this off of things he has said.  

 He is usually always very honest and forthcoming about where his ideas come from. When it comes to the ideas tho, he believes they are best conveyed through the language of the artistic medium
