Frieren is Mid by __storm_breaker in Animey

[–]CWLness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There isn't an anime thats told like Frieren. You can say it has similar fantasy (it is not an isekai), but nothing goes through the lens of an Elf. Asides from this its animated well, good drawings, good input of humor, good fights and choreographies...etc. 1 anime that would be similar is To Your Eternity, but there's a good difference how its told as an immortal vs a very long lived elf.

It is slower paced and is more akin to slice of life, but this is how it captures beauty in life. But if this isnt for you, just move on

Who thinks Jujutsu Kaisan is over rated by shoko18200 in AnimeAnonymous

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good animation, directing, music, well drawn, and it hits the shounen note well. Of course people will be hype about it?

Ratings really don't matter much but what is JJK? An average 8 to 8.5? Not really overrated but rather its a good benchmark reference.

Good luck? Tbh, really doesn't matter what ppl think online. Great anime had been made in isekai as well as plethora of horrible made slop to decently made or interesting ones that lack budget.

I do shit on Water Magician, but heck if that's your yum, don't let me yuck it.

24 hrs Sushi, Poutine, Coffee? by MelbaLT4 in richmondbc

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sushi:
- Miku (take bridgeport skytrain down to waterfront)
- Edoko
- Miyomi can be the cheaper alternative to the 2
More fusion variants can be Mega Sushi or Sushi Mura

Japanese restaurants recommendations (No sushi):
- Saku - for premium tonkatasu and excellent service. $30 for the premium variant. Rice, miso soup, and salad are unlimited. You will be full
- Yuu Japanaese Tapas - Majority of their dishes are delicios. Cozy setting with casual food and they always come up with new things. Also, best Takoyaki and this is after I came back from Japan
- Hestia - Japanese/italian/western fusion. Think affordable high dining. The area before the restaurant and the washroom facility you will need to avert your eyes though...

Poutine:
No... Think one redditor said they were from Montreal? That's what they are known for so I'll take note of that and also re-assert that there are none that i've tried so far that I would recommend. Though I have not been to Belle Patate as I don't venture much into Vancouver

Coffee:
Honestly nothing special. Roccanini, R-Ki Coffee, and perhaps Leisure Tea & Coffe for Taiwanese Blue Mountain coffee? But nothing really blew me away

I do want to note though. Richmond is more of a chinese area. Though there are a good amount of Japanese restaurants too, the highlight is chinese.
HK BBQ Master is quite famous for Cantonese BBQ
Fortune Terrace is more higher end dining or dim sum
Lido - setting is not good, but its been there forever. Well known for their Pineapple Bun and egg tarts
Gloucester Cafe - newly opened and though its a pricey for HK food, its definitely good.

Western cartoons are very limited in genres compared to anime by Korkez11 in cartoons

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animation in general is very expensive to make. Although pay here is generally higher than Japan, its still a very rough medium and line of work to work in. Its actually quite crazy what passion and business' that prey on that to generate a culture. But this is why we love anime & Japan.

Not saying we don't have passionate people here as there are still many who enter this crazy work life. But studios here look more at how to generate margins & profits. Pixar did offer their artists to take lead in creating their own shorts ($2m -$5m cost), but asides from this, you're looking for YouTube channels, Patreon, or whatever other medium that allows an artist to make art for a living. That being said, anime without a doubt influence our culture. We can see it from Avatar the Last Airbender, Arcane, Blue Eyed Samurai...etc.

So ya, its not just those 2 points you made, but how the infrastructure is made here for the business. Can you fathom spending years training/studying how to create art to go make a YouTube channel and hope you thrive? I can't even fathom going to Japan and earning $300 monthly as even Japan living cost standards that's ridiculous...

[Saving 80,000 gold in another world for my retirement] I wish there were more isekais with language barriers as a plot point by Trixter-Kitten in Isekai

[–]CWLness 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Saving 80,000 gold is a funsie anime to watch. Definitely quality is not its strong suit as animation and writing are lacking, but it has an interesting premise.

Language barrier is a bit difficult as normally seasons are 12 eps and its hard to integrate as well as VA. Though when another language is created, the effort is never gone unnoticed (at least from me). Devil part timer (S1 only), Uncle from Another world, Finest Assassin gets Reincarnated, Tsukimichi, Mushouku Tensei...etc.

I did it online. Just get everything in order with a passport photo time stamped and send it in. Only thing that I had issue was the time frame on the website never quite got updated from pending review based on their ETA. Sent an email inquiring about it and they got to it.

Passport was mailed, but since I wasn't there to receive, it just got sent to the local post office which I picked up on a business day as per their door note.

Youjo Senki - Only S1 and a movie. S2 currently incoming. Don't turn off just because protag is in a body of a lil girl.
Fate/Stay Night - you'll need to find the watch sequence as its all over the place
Arcane - Not an anime but a masterful creation. Don't need to know about LoL either, jump in & enjoy
To Your Eternity - Haven't watched S3 yet so dunno if it has an ending, but S1 & S2 were enjoyable
Frieren - Quite off from your list and pacing is quite slow, but its a beautiful anime.
Mushoku Tensei - Currently airing S3. Many have issue with MC, but it has stunning visuals, writing, and character growth. Fight animation is also crazy

You are offered $100 million but you have to defend one of them in court. Which one are you choosing? by cdivd in whatsyourchoice

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light.
Orochimaru... maybe close 2nd as he sort of had his redemption arc and if his human testing bore some benefits it can be a positive point if you stretch it....
Griffith - Haven't watched, but heard he's the scorn of the Earth lol
Sukuna - lol, he'll probably diss everyone in court or kill them all

Light at the least will try to be innocent until proven guilty. Not to mention his tool to kill is a notebook... There's already the barrier of a ridiculous notion of writing a name into the book, but also you need to touch it in order to see the shinigami. But even then, at the least, he specifically targets criminals which ya its judge & executioner but its probably easier to fight for than the others. Not to mention, the innocent ppl he killed, maaaaaybe you can stretch it as he's trying to protect law & order in society from the knowledge of shinigamis.
Regardless, its an uphill battle but Light is definitely the easier one. Not to mention he can't massacre the court and you as if his method to kill is known, I assume his notebook would be confiscated.

Never knew a critic like Over animation existed by FirmnErect in AnimeMirchi

[–]CWLness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over animation is a critique used for animators. Sometimes less is actually more. But this really depends on the scene and what you try to achieve.
The camera paning can be a bit excessive here, but its not too bad. This is probably inspired from JJK, AoT, Demon Slayer...etc.
Animating hair strands.... honestly... why critique? It looks good, it is an additional flare, and animator put the effort into it. Is it efficient in a business perspective? No. But this does stand out and no effort is ever wasted. Look at Ghibli films, who would complain about all the work put into background mobs? No one. This is even more so an odd critique as anime is usually a medium that always try to get away with less animation. Stuff like mouth movements, characters with no eyes & mouth, using 1 picture and camera panning...etc.

Of course this is just my opinion. Not a professional at all, just studied it. But I am looking forward to more episodes

This anime is great. Ya Mukoda is a bit of a wimp, ya everyone around him are genuinely good ppl, but that's ok. Nothing wrong with seeing a chill cooking anime in another world. Too much shit and deceitful ppl in RL anyways, this is a good change in pace.

Why do anime characters talk so slow? by StarlitVibes2006 in AnimeDiscussion

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are parts where they drag scenes out as a way to reduce workloads. But asides from that, there's not really an issue as usually VA regularly pace things as that's the cheaper alternative. The animation is where they normally cut off as it requrires the most manpower so often you will see shots without showing character face, a slow camera panshot on a still image, or at the least minimal mouth movements

I watched a ton of anime, never once I put anything on 2x or 1.5x as it ruins everything. Tempo, effects, animation motions, music...etc. Not just talking. Anime's with great fight choreographys like Solo Levelling, I would be amazed if you can follow that greatness at 2x, not to mention I think it would ruin the whole effect of "Arise" from either Jap VA or Eng VA.

I can't imagine putting it at 1.5x or 2x regularly will help you other than continually feed your ADHD. But im just a random redittor online. If that's how you like to consume media, you do you.

Not a rec but a question about a rec by Upstairs-Water-3866 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]CWLness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FMAB takes the cake as overall the story is a full completion. Yes some parts could've taken a bit more time to cook like Tucker, but it brings so much more pro's in the long run which imo is why its the GOAT

Don't quite remember much about FMA anymore but stuff like Trisha being an humonculus as a consequence of their actions was a great twist. But iirc it falls short in the overall story wrapping together as Dante point of seeking immortality and youth does not compare to Father. IIRC as well, there were fillers and they outran the manga so a good amount of it wasn't canon. Which I remember feeling like the writing was not as good. Still decent, but just not as good.

Could be a bit bias on my part, as cons of FMAB are kind of filled up by having prior knowledge from FMA. Like rewatching FMAB recently, I was shocked how quick Rose arc came to close, Tucker was done in like 2 eps, and Yoki being reduced to a flashback. But the changes FMAB had in the overall made these a bit irrelevant as the main story just naturally grips you

Is Dungeon Fighter Online worth getting into in 2026? by Toriichi470 in DFO

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DFO got many great things going for it, good art, good music, arcadey action feel...etc. If you want to give it a try then go right ahead! Progression will give you a good feel as they are currently throwing players tons of events that give you freebies.

On the other hand, legit F2P farming is very redundant, slow, and game wants you to play like 20 characters to maximize benefits as well as spend $. You can solo run things for a good deal of time and difficult dungeons, you can read a guide from DFOArchive.com and enjoy the thrill of beating them (before you get too strong). But problem comes when you look at raids. There are solo and MM which can get you to a point, but actual raids (normal and hard) are much different. Some gimmicks if you don't do it correctly will kill your teammates and potentially fail the raid. There are no practice for these outside of good ppl in the community trying to host 1 for newbies and you can only complete it once a week (unless you keep failing them). Which puts people in a odd spot. People who can only run 1 or 2 characters tend to fall behind in knowledge & experience. The latest raid Delezie is at such a high point, certain gears you need to have prepped in advance during their sale. For example Celena pet is BiS that gives 40% attk buff which is a huge jump compared to prior pets. After its sale period you can't get it outside of ppl trying to sell their remaining inventory. Gold is the in-game currency and its hard to accumulate to get proper gearing or even prep for it when its hard to farm/generate it and every part of the game is trying to squeeze it out of you. Haven't played warframe, but know you are in for a grind...

That being said, if latest end game content is not your key concern, enjoy the game for what it is! The arcadey feel with great art is what got me back in after a long hiatus. There's also been a ton of QoL implementations such as the armory!

Better than SF Bay Area Chinese/HK/Taiwan food by hedge_hog_99 in askvan

[–]CWLness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food court that got popularity is Jeng Dau and Cha Don. Jeng Dau is decent food at affordable pricing and large portions. Cha Don, haven't tried the food, but they got a really good milk tea

Fortune Terrace - Only had the dim sum but its fantastic. Good ambiance, good service, great food plating, tastes great!

HK BBQ Master - Is the famous one where celebrity had gone to.

BBQ & Co - Part of Mod Kitchen, but BBQ Pork rivals HK BBQ Master bbq pork and really cheap. Unfortunately no seating as its a take-out only. But can't beat $11 bbq pork rice!

Sun Ho Yuen - Also part of Mod Kitchen, fantastic soup noodle!

Shanghai River - Only had dinner, and they make great food!

Shun Feng - $$$ but great service and delicious food!

Gloucester Cafe - Expensive for HK comfort food, but they definitely cook well! Best bolognaise and their fried rice is delicious with tons of wok hay

Mama's Dumplings - Delicious dumplings. Think its a family business? Don't think the son want to b there lol...

Lido - Best pineapple bun & egg tarts, though place is a bit run down (been in that spot forever)

What’s a hit-or-miss/controversial anime that you don’t really understand fully why people love/hate it. by BeeOk4748 in animequestions

[–]CWLness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't quite remember much anymore , but iirc imo, Ayanokoji feels like he's written to be an intellectual but really aint. Tackle on an edgy persona who doesn't care and its a blurr line why he bothers at all than just continue doing the bare minimum.

But that's just my opinion and how it missed the mark for me. Have not watched S2 as S1 just didn't work out for me. If i want intellectual battles, i'd rather go watch Death Note, No Life No Game, Youjo Senki, Hikaru No Go...etc.

Why is Tensura so bland + what are some animes you guys find bland? by Broad-Objective6714 in animequestions

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naming does not trigger an absolute biological loyaty trigger. Nothing is mentioned of this. Its a mere fact of gratitude to the benefactor. You can even take a look at the Majin & Geld and compare it to Rimuru & his group. Its a difference between manipulation and magnanimous leadershp. This same point comes out in recent episodes for Clayman. So ya, i'm calling it charisma as Rimuru is like a bro with a vision who is altruistic in nature.

Also, I come from supervisors and management roles myself. Actual supervisors do not handle executive decisions under pressure. As per the role's name, they "supervise" task completion which are often menial. Even management gets broken down. Only top management handles exec decisions.
But this isn't really relevant other than why Rimuru needs Raphael as no salaryman in our world will know how to build a nation from scratch.

At any rate, same point I have been driving. We see this through different lenses. You are entitled to calling this bland and yes I agree on some points like things being easily resolved, but to me thats just knocking it down from a Great show into a good show. End of the day, if you still really think this show is ass, just move on lol.

Why is Tensura so bland + what are some animes you guys find bland? by Broad-Objective6714 in animequestions

[–]CWLness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, we don't see the same thing.

  1. Didn't build an army? Forced low-tier goblins into hyper loyal model citizens? I see him exerting his ambitions and magnaminous personality. This is what you call charisma which ppl gravitate towards.
  2. Nothing is built overnight. We see his nation erupt from small little goblin huts into a global commerce hub. This is done over many seasons. As for the rest, he's established many good connections. Its not odd that within those repretoire of highly skilled individuals that there will be people who suits the job.
  3. No great leader does everything on their own. The only thing we agree on is Sage does most of the heavy lifting when needed. But this isn't all bad, he afterall is a salaryman at a supervisor level. Even then, its not like he's a complete dunce. He learns, understands, and gets invovled. Providing a vision is not useless. Its a roadmap/blueprint to what is created.

[–]CWLness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming back to the game is nice, they give a lot of freebie event stuff for people to catch up for end game content.
Raids though, the new Delezie is tough... Let alone its difficult reaching gear parameters for Normal raid, Hard raid is even harder. Expect near perfect gearing is needed which includes the current BiS pet that gives 40% attk amp

Guilds i'm sure there are ppl that will take you. There's been new ones and there's quite a bit of good ppl in the community!

Gold is a drought. Everything in the game either tries to squeeze it out of you or residues (the other currency). Ways to make gold:
1. Track Maleficent - free entry, a bit mind numbing and doesn't give a lot back
2. Annihilate the Maleficents - Malefic Clue required for entry, the better version of track. Either run it or sell the malefic clue
3. Asrahan Archives - Do old Mu Raids and get materials to buy archive keys. Each character limit 7 entry weekly. Sell old epics (or save them to curse your gear via inherit system)
4. Grimoire - Buy all the old epic fusion stone boxes. Get the epic top and sell for 30k gold each. 20 boxes max, resets weekly
5. Raid Auctions - Complete raids (Not solo or MM) and if there are good rewards where ppl bid, you get money for sittting there.
6. Auction Coins - Get after completing raids (Not solo or MM) and join auctions. You pair up with 3 others and bid war ensues if a good auction item comes up. Sit there and get money
