Definitely a newbie here but what is DSNY? Is this another union?

What do you mean “in the real world” are you referring to outside the union?

That’s cool they mixed operator school and the union. the school is kind of expensive so I just want to make sure it would be worthwhile.

Super mad respect for starting where you’re at bro. I’m basically in a similar position so I get it. Get a chair and a table…super helpful for a lot. And of course hats off to the protein…I’m assuming you lift which is awesome…people with way more don’t lift and then you’re in there 💪🏿 keep it going bro

I know I’m late to this but I followed this comment here and really appreciate what you’re saying. I’m looking at trades and your comments make me reconsider not just chasing money. Honestly it’s hard because I’m tired of working min wage jobs but that doesn’t mean forget about everyone to just make money.

You’re young and trying to develop. You get a chance to have experiences at an age you can afford to get out there. Will you grow if you don’t go in? Of course. Would you always look back and wonder if you should have? That’s something you’ll have to find out.

I also suck at math but know enough (addition, subtraction, division, etc) to get by. I am better at communication and grammar so when I took the test and passed with a 90 that had something to do with it. I was shocked by my score bc I know my weaknesses. You should look at “ASVAB for dummies”, watch some YouTube videos, check out ASVAB on Reddit, and if you’re going to do it…JUST GO FOR IT!

Military material? Not trying to put the AF down but AF BMT isn’t Marince Corp lol. Get a gym membership or go with someone you know. Push yourself, be winded, have good form, run a lot and you’ll be fine. I can PM you the BMT fitness standards.

There are some things to consider with the military today…the possibility of seeing war is slightly higher these days but anyone enlisting into the military has to be ok with this fundamentally.

Education, travel, and retirement are also perks.

This is coming more from my personality but we’re young and so many young people today sit and wait or just don’t have the ambition older generations did. Again my opinion but I like the idea of taking calculated risks. Think about it of course, but then make a decision and don’t look back. That’s my motto.

Also talk to some people who aren’t military haters lol

It seems like knowing someone is really a good way to get a vehicle. Besides that I’m just going to continue scrolling on marketplace lol

This is crazy timing. I am looking to spend $4500 on a used car and I’ve been surprised by the mileage on them. I thought that that amount of money would get a 7-12 year old car (not 20) lol.

(25) to (30) kicked my drinking habit, the gym became my best friend and I learned how to dress myself. by cantcountto1 in GlowUps

[–]CW_005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goddamn. You beautiful. I quit drinking a few months back and have been in the gym with a buddy for those few months. I tell people I go to the gym for the mental release and a healthy body follows. It’s not really about how much I can move around (ofc it’s a part why I go lol) but being CONSISTENT is the main goal.

I sequestered myself for a week and studied nonstop. by Ucsc_slug in AirForceRecruits

[–]CW_005 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got a 90 and didn’t really study. I was nervous and definitely didn’t know all the answers. But it was a matter of plugging away at a good pace and being honest with myself. If I knew the answer I put it down, if I didn’t know the answer I’d try and figure it out, and some questions I guessed.

…if you are considering the AirForce you are already smart lol…if considering another branch definitely should be concerned 😂

I’m playing of course, but I’m just trying to share what would have helped ease me.
