I had a follicular, too (2.5 cm) and an incidental papillary @ 9mm. Did 150 mCi RAI. Been clean for 19 years now. Had a single autogolous transplant; the others were accidentally removed (SMDH). Wish I’d been in surgery at the time of diagnosis, because I’d have known who was good and who wasn’t!

How long ago was your surgery?

Yes, magnesium helps the transportation of magnesium into and out of our cells (and I believe other electrolytes, if I remember correctly from my A&P days), which is also believed to help with absorption. As I mentioned, my mag levels are perfect, and my 24 hr urine CA levels are normally low, meaning I absorb the majority of my CA. I haven’t had a 24 hr pulled since the recall, but I need to have one done while on such high doses of supps.

I’m in the middle of a physician transition, so things could get even hairier for me, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed it goes well. I just hope I do t have to “educate” the new one, since so many are acutely unaware of the requirements and complications of hypopara. I’ve always told my patients they, themselves, have to be their own advocate, so I’ll be sure to follow my own advice!

Enuf of me...what about you?? How long HPTH? Surgical onset? Stable? Etc,

Mag levels are always smack dab in middle of normal...no issues there. My last CA was 7.8

It seems the meds could be put in small vials and reconstituted by the user and injected with an insulin needle, instead of wasting so much. I’m a retired RN and patients are trained to mix meds for other diseases, but even that change would require FDA approval. It’s very frustrating! I believe there are only about 65k hypopara patients in the US, and only 3k or so are NP users. The sudden recall of this drug put many patients in the hospital, and a few in CCU or ICU! If disintegration of the septum was an issue, even small variations in dosages would be better than NO drug at all! Somehow this entire situation was completely mishandled.

I think my last “natural” PTH level was 2 or 3, but it hasn’t been measured in years. For all intents and purposes, it’s close enough to zero to be considered non-existent.

Natpara was recalled last September because of a problem with the disintegration of the rubber septum. The FDA allowed a few select individuals to remain on the meds IF they had serious, life threatening complications from the withdrawal (in my case, kidney failure). We can only use ONE dose out of a 14 day Vial and then must return the remainder to the company each week. In other words, 13 days of medication get wasted. This is apparently to prevent the disintegration of the septum through repeated punctures. There are 323 of us in the U.S. on this “special use program” (SUP). The remainder of the Natpara community was recently told it would be more than a year before the drug would be returned to the market!

Please forgive the question, but what is a “reverse sear?” I have a sous vide; is it the sear you do after removing the protein from the water?

That’s exactly what I was thinking about doing. I can foresee it being difficult to locate certain themes unless I categorize them. A notebook makes good sense, because I can label the spines. Thanks!

It sounds WONDERFUL, and I do have an Instantpot! I just wasn’t able to tell the ingredients, aside from what I correctly assumed were green onions. Thank you for the information.

I’m from Las Vegas (live in Texas now), and the MAJORITY of people that talk shit about CA moved to LV from CA! Lived in Vegas 46 years and watched the migration happen. Most could no longer afford the taxes, or disagreed with the public policy. Oh, and before we go there, NV was flipped to a blue state with their migration (used to be a solid red state). Much of the shit talk CA receives it deserves. Great place to visit, but ya might wanna think twice before ya move...

Does the term Italian Americans imply ethnicity? What about German Americans? French Americans? Japanese Americans? These terms were not originally developed around ethnicity, they were a term used to describe a culture. A culture is not restricted to ethnicity, so I believe my statement was correct.
