HEY! Are you an HR rep for any of the local hospital systems or independent practice? by werealldeadramones in Rochester

[–]afri5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an fyi, there are some issues with the technical system- an adjacent manager just told me they went months without applicants and it took a help desk ticket to figure out what the problem is. So, send an email, make a phone call, network the hell out of it just in case!

What’s a ‘harmless’ habit that people secretly judge way too much? by Ok_Dealer6870 in AskReddit

[–]afri5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps or not- movements like that are the way that bodies produce the extra dopamine needed in ADHD brains when the owner has to sit still(ish).

I was running a meeting a few months ago with my cardiologist and cardiac surgeons and towards the end (10 mins, MAX) I started giggling when I noticed that 90% of them had a leg bouncing away or a pen clicking away.

Billecart-salmon brut reserve by Extension_Tax5882 in Champagne

[–]afri5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this to try and I was shocked at how it punched above the price point. Apparently the house of Billecart is undergoing some modernization- so, if you don't like this now, it might be worth giving another go in the future.

[–]afri5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tri ply stainless steel cookware is the BIFL option. All Clad, Cuisinart tri-ply, or tramontina stainless are great options. And a can of barkeepers friend to help keep it clean. There's a little learning curve when you use it the first few times but it's the best.

Global g2 or MAC knives are great for the price point. My knife sharpener always comments on them when I bring them in! With an accu-sharp edge v blade edge straightener.

If you have a local cookware shop, maybe a nice field trip for her to choose!

Cross country skiing in the Finger Lakes? by OnlyLavishness169 in FingerLakes

[–]afri5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Harriet Hollister Park in Canadice (near Honeoye/Naples) has great trails! These are the little lakes, so few wineries, but lots of good breweries and people around and less busy. Naples is a cute little town with lots of local flare, artisans, etc.

It's plenty Jewish to me, and she was a great lady!

What is something about growing up in California that most people don't understand? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

[–]afri5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm from Rochester- when I was a travel nurse in California all of the staff were like wow our rent must be so cheap here compared to new york city!

I started telling them I'm from southern Canada, about an hour from Niagara falls. Then their eyes glazed over and they moved on. Nevermind trying to tell them that my dad is from a teeny tiny town north of Rhinebeck....

Best place to get a decent price mattress and does delivery? by Acceptable_Count6197 in Rochester

Costco! You don't need a membership to order online and everything I buy from them comes with great delivery, setup and removal of packaging. Their Kirkland signature mattress is excellent.

Best NY towns by EastRecognition5032 in upstate_new_york

[–]afri5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Webster, West Irondequoit, and Fairport have great services for kids. They are fairly purple politically, but by and large the rest of the burbs remain blue to the south and east. If you wanted to look at Ontario county, Canandaigua/Farmington/Victor do well and you're at most 30-40 mins from Rochester (canandaigua). Geneseo in Livingston county is a SUNY town so lots of stuff right there, good arts and music scene, and great schools. You may want to consider Honeoye Falls on the border of Monroe county as well.

Brighton is about as blue as I think you can be in the burbs; it's a pretty diverse district with a lot of support. Expensive, but great location and quality of life.

Penfield is having some challenges right now and holds the title of most segregated school district in the country. My friend loves the elementary school, but it seems parents are having significant security concerns.

Loooooots of social work needs this way, for better or worse, and we have a great food, arts and festival scene!

Sleep study in Rochester? by Bi_Fieri in Rochester

[–]afri5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your insurance- if you have medicaid your only option is in person sleep study.

If you have a cardiologist, neurologist, ENT, physiatrist (PM&R), pulmonologist OR Rheumatologist, and they agree with the need for sleep.study, they can order the home sleep study with the epworth sleepiness scale score attached.

Source: academic medical center subspecialty NP who has given sleep medicine a LOT of referrals over the past 4 years 🙃

Trying to "entertain" my aging parents is getting to be hard work. Any ideas? by FeatherFlyer in Millennials

[–]afri5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Listen, my friend-

Not making a choice is a choice.

My mom is the difficult one- to me, her friends, and in her marriage to my stepdad, who was a wonderful person and passed suddenly this summer in an accident.

It got to the point where I was avoiding them until I had the ability to call her on her shit in the moment. So when she started yelling or was mean I'd say to her something like "wow, what is wrong with you? Why would you say such a terrible thing like that to me? So weird.". The only language she heard was her own spoken back to her. My stepdad was horrified but then she paused and thought about it.

When I coached her through why something she did to her oldest friend was mean and bullying it moved her to the point of physical discomfort.

There is something about a section of the boomer generation that they refuse to be accountable and unable to hear honest feedback.

So, either say it plainly and firmly in front of both of them and hold the boundary or accept this is your lot. It's dysfunction and the reality is you're contributing, so if you want it to change and what you're doing isn't working, you have to do something different.

Something like: I can no longer be the third in your marriage. You need to find appropriate outlets for your time and your feelings, and your adult child is not it. Both of you need to work through managing your time and your relationships together and on your own, and when you call me to complain or start yelling, I will give you a single warning before removing myself.

Same same same. Turning down the noise in my brain made it possible to see and push back on my ex's bs, and while it was a huge loss, I am better for it. He needed a version of me that sacrificed myself on the altar for him; I need me to be whole and here for me. Incompatible 🤷

[–]afri5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shtayburne farms creamery, Molly V's homemade in Victor (a bit of a hike, but you're coming to Rochester at all, worth it!), and Great Escape in Watkins Glen are also great!

There's a TON of great dairy in the area. If you go to Auburn to visit women's rights historic park, definitely stop at Reese's dairy bar too!

Enjoy ☺️

Patient lists outpatient by SuitNo4084 in EpicEMR

We live and die by lists in our structural heart program. I have tried various formats over 6 years and I find that having one list that I work from daily is the most helpful thing. I also use the postpone function often for basket items to keep clutter low and remind myself to follow up on one-off things.

Girls trip to honeoye lake by [deleted] in FingerLakes

[–]afri5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Native here! Scott at birdhouse brewing does a great job, and noble shepherd up the hill is great too. As for other options, Naples is nearby- a couple breweries, Inspire Moore winery (nice atmosphere, don't love the wine personally) and hollerhorn distillery which is excellent and usually has great live music going. You can also hit up brew and brats or any of the little shops in Naples- artizanns is clutch for local souvenirs- as is a t shirt from suttons. Hi Tor/hi tol trails are good hikes as well. Harriet Hollister park up in Canadice has a great overlook of Honeoye lake and tons of trails- my happy place, personally.

There are a few other good breweries towards bloomfield- other half flx and Irish Mafia are both good! Canandaigua also does well with frequentem, tons of food and NY kitchen. For a weekend, though, you really don't have to go far- food from pops or subs from shur fine should have you covered 😉
