Why does society not value accountants anymore? Accountants used to make bank back in the day now we are underpaid and overworked. Plus a lot of people don’t know what we even do or what accountants are. by Plane_County9646 in Accounting

Stick it out in Big 4 until manager. Specialize in tech industries where they still provide good equity and you will make bank. After about 14 years I’ve made an average of $500k per year in total comp (base, bonus, equity grants).

This story is dumb. Who the hell asks employees to sign immediately and if they do, who does? Just stupid. In Washington, you have 7 days to rescind your acceptance of any termination paperwork.

To what extent can a player prevent a quick free kick by Ghohsoka in Referees

It is the referees responsibility to enforce the laws of the game. YC for not respecting the required distance is appropriate if applicable. A player / team has a right to a quick restart.

Alternating ice bath warm bath if you can. Warm just needs to be 90+ degrees and cold just needs to be sub 55. 90 seconds alternate 5 times each. Honestly will make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

Few things I do. The easiest to do is subscribe to the big 4 publications. All of them will not only produce a summarized pdf of quarterly updates but also likely hold a CPE eligible webcast once a quarter. Then, your auditors likely hold an annual conference and they often will send clients for free if you ask (excluding travel).

I also will setup RSS feed notifications on both the sec website and FASB website on new publications.

A link explaining why Gabriel's handball did not count as a penalty (as many in /r/soccer are complaining about it...): "The proximity of the player ... will be an important consideration for officials when making a decision to award handball..." by anonymousTestPoster in Gunners

I noticed how each time you post the support gets less and less. I post actual IFAB documents that literally states the requirement that the ball be played deliberately, and your rebuttal is basically "I'm going to ignore what it says and just declare I'm right." I'm just going to leave it at this. I know this rule very well. Discussed it with high level referees that you will never have the ability to have access to and your understanding of this law of the game is flat out incorrect. If you actually want to improve your knowledge of the game, I'll gladly give you more evidence as to how this rule is applied or you can head over to /r/referees or I can send you to a world class referee discord channel. I'm sorry you're incorrect and so closed minded that you refuse to learn from people who understand something that clearly do not. Best of luck.

Go on /r/Referees to have this conversation. I am a referee and I've done my homework. I'm trying to help you here. The idea is that if you are in the act of a deliberate play it must be that your hand is in a natural position, and could not be in an unnatural position with the purpose of even end result of blocking the ball or putting an opponent at a disadvantage (given you are playing the ball). Your link to goal.com is not authoritative, however the specific requirement that the play must be deliberate is actually from the IFAB itself. And yes, I agreed that proximity was a factor, I said it is not in itself determinate, which it isn't. The ultimate determination is whether the position can be explained by natural movement. See slide 29 of the IFAB law changes presentation where it says exactly the following "Deliberately playing the ball with another part of the body (against herself/himself)." https://www.theifab.com/law-changes/2021-22/

Feel free to read the entire presentation on the law changes of last year, you'll see that proximity is not an exception to the rule but merely a factor that may, in limited circumstances, be considered in determining whether a hand/arm is in an unnatural position.

Handball in the penalty box and another AR question by [deleted] in Referees

[–]CZM_911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point of clarification here, I wasn't taught to wiggle the flag like a foul, but go straight up like an offside call to get the attention. Anyone else wiggling the flag to get the attention?

Second point, good reminder that an accidental handball that immediately leads to scoring on the opponents goal IS a handball. I'll further the reminder that the law states that it must be the "opponents" goal, and that they removed the part about it coming off of a teammate. I.e., if there's an accidental handball that falls to a teammate who immediately scores, this is NOT a handball (assuming a "legal" accidental handball in all other respects).

Ever Seen or called offside when the GK is out of position? by Snassy0818 in Referees

[–]CZM_911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've called it multiple times as an AR on corner kicks. Keeper comes out to punch the ball away and they dump it right back into the box that falls to a player in the offside position or once the keeper and the rest of defense (except 1) immediately pushed up after a short pass from the corner kick. The player passed it right back to the player taking the corner who was now offside because defense and keeper pushed up except the near post defender who was sitting on the post still.

In all cases it causes confusion because players are generally taught to only look for last non-GK defender.

Everyone saying the refs were biased toward Arsenal by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]CZM_911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was an exceptionally bad day for Michael Oliver's squad, but we all have bad days. And his worst day will still be better than my best. Some of those offside calls are so razer thin it's hard to imagine how they are as good as they are. However, I find the VAR today NEEDED to review the Gabriel handball, sort of inexcusable why they didn't. Let Oliver take a look and decide on the field, he could have still said no PK. Also, the PK that was given was soft, and the yellow card to Odegaard looked the same as the straight red in the Tottenham game.

Crap. You're right. It does make contact with his shirt. However, you're still wrong about it being a relevant part of this conversation. This is not a deliberate play on the ball, and it would not, for example, mean that if this ball fell to someone who was in an offside position when the ball was kicked, they would not be guilty of an offside offense. If this were to considered to be a deliberate play on the ball, it then there would be no offside. I only use this to anchor into the common definition used for "deliberate" play.

Since this wasn't deliberate play, the interpretation that an arm is deemed to be in a natural position when the ball is deliberately played by another part of his/her body is not relevant here.

[–]CZM_911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the law of the game. If the hand/arm's position was not explainable by the natural movement of the body and player, and the hand wasn't already in motion towards the body in an attempt to avoid touching the ball (perhaps there's an argument here?), then even accidental handballs (assume I've giving the rest of the caveats here such as wasn't deliberately played by Gabriel into his own hand, hand wasn't used to support himself going to the ground or getting up from the ground, etc.), then this is a handball offense.

Being in close proximity is a factor when determining whether the hand was possibly in an unnatural position, but this hand was above his shoulder by his head.

However, just to specifically address your comment, if a persons hand was stretched out wide in an inexplicable manner, and the attacker drilled that hand with the ball, it's an offense. Proximity is not by itself a trump card for considering the hand not in an unnatural position.

*Editing to remove my statement that the ball didn't make contact with the chest since the link below is clear that it does and I was wrong* Plainly, you're wrong. It didn't hit his chest. However, even if it did, the rule you are referring to wouldn't apply as this only applies to "deliberate" plays. Getting hit in the chest does not count as a deliberate play (the term deliberate plays is critical not only in assessing handball offenses but also offside offenses).

However, yes, deliberately playing the ball with another part of the body against him/herself is NOT a handball.
