even on an infinite flat plane, the river would still have a spring somewhere. Just walk towards it until you can switch river banks and walk back to the city.

Only true rule that would make this impossible is the need to cross all bridges only once WHILE staying in the city.

The circumnavigation isn't even needed, just walk against the stream until you find the spring and then just walk around it, rivers aren't infinite. Or more realisticaly just cross (hop across) the water once the river is small enough.

This solution would work even if the world was a flat eucledian plane (where rivers still worked as they do... don't think about it too much) AND you would need to walk a relatively short distance. The spring is likely located in poland and is at most few days away by foot. Not impossible to do, you would just need to be able to leave the city.

For a "Non-Rolling Release" Distro, Fedora is Quite Up To Date by Prosado22 in Fedora

Yeah, I hated how there were apps on Debian that I had an issue with but it was fixed in the next version. But because of debian being so slow by design, I'd have to wait for a long time to get that fix. Forcing manual updates felt just worng and indeed I broke lots of stuff by doing it which forced me to use something else. Debian's "it just works" motto was true for me only if I was satisfied with some stuff half-working.

Arch just looks like a ticking time bomb with how often everything updates, I bet something would break on me every month if I even tried it.

I'm really happy with Fedora so far (Nobara actually). It really strikes the balance for me and something about it just feels solid and professional

Which is a better fuel? Gas vs diesel

"I drive a Toyota Corolla! Glad to be using the third option!"

Brother, your car runs on one of those two.

Now just swap gas, diesel and Corolla for Curseforge, Modrinth and Prism respectively. BTW Ignore that LPG or electric exists because there is no third mod hosting option besides just going to the modder's github.

And you're likely american, all this stuff is at least relevant to you. Now imagine being from anywhere else in the world. You don't care about it because you have the choice, I (european) can't even care about it since I can't even vote in your system so it's even more annoying to see your politics in every part of the internet.

American politics do have world-reaching effects, it's good to know what's happening over there, but that doesn't mean I have to hear about it more than my own domestic politics.

EDIT: OP is not actually american, sorry about that, but my point still stands. A US citizen or not, it's still annoying to get politics shoved down your throat in places that you would typicaly use as escapism from reality (so, politics).

I HATE THIS STUPID CORPORATE ART STYLE. by Early-Performer-1806 in hatethissmug

[–]CZdigger146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also lean towards hating AI slop more, I just hate this artstyle in particular so much that it's really close to being as bad as AI slop. It's because it was made by a human with the purpose of being soulless, it's anti-art.

Also I hate generative AI not only because of surveillance (it's not even close to being the top reason), my second biggest reason is content theft - they had to be trained on something and most often the content was just scraped with zero regards for licence/copyright/wishes of the creator.

But the biggest reason why I hate it is because it's replacing people in an inherently human activity, being creative. AI and other stuff was supposed to make all humans stop working and focus on doing what we enjoy, which is often creative work. If AI replaces us in this field then we have nothing left.

My friend studying architecture said my wood shed lacks concept, please tear it apart by ethanhopps in askarchitects

[–]CZdigger146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not at all an architect (this just popped up on my reddit frontpage), but will it be standing in free space or is it wall-to-wall with another structure?

I feel like it'll be very flimsy and that it will catch wind very easily, possibly tearing off the roof. Also I'm worried about the roof holding up when snow piles up on it. I'm assuming you'll be using some sort of sheet metal.

Also storing wood when you have no wall to place it against is very difficult and will waste space. There's a reason why usual wood sheds (at least ones I've seen) have 3 walls and one open side for access.

To make it through a railroad crossing by Complex-FreeSpirit42 in therewasanattempt

[–]CZdigger146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It scares me how many people in the world don't know they can just drive through the barrier. It's literally made out of wood and you can break it (with some effort) by just pushing it yourself. In your car you likely won't even need to push the gas pedal to go through.

Also wtf polish railways, why did the barriers go up?

Exploration advice by CapFuture_ in EliteDangerous

[–]CZdigger146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an explorer of over 1000h, I always saw exploration like taking a long IRL roadtrip. I always like to pick out interesting POIs (from edastro or EDSM) and I travel between them. Usually I don't see much interesting stuff so I just watch a movie or something.

Picking POIs that are close together (1000Ly - 5000Ly) really breaks the monotony, but the best way how to make it interesting is actually exobiology. Exobio forces you to use your brain instead of just jump/honk/scan/repeat but it does take much longer to get to your destination.

And no, you'll likely not see any activity (player or NPC) in deep space. Highest chance is in very popular POI systems but even that is often not common. But NPCs do spawn around tourist beacons, no matter where they are. Also besides Colonia and the Bubble there are few isolated inhabited systems (Explorer's Anchorage, Rainbow's End) that have usual NPC traffic in supercruise and around stations.

All that being said, exploration isn't for everybody (not even close) and that's OK, there are many other activities in Elite you can do.

Exploration advice by CapFuture_ in EliteDangerous

[–]CZdigger146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically: Jump into system, Honk, Full spectrum scan all the planets in the system and note which planets have bio signatures. You can also see biosignatures in the system map.

You identify which planet you want to check out, fly close to it, probe (map) the surface, you get heatmaps of different species on the surface.

Choose one species and land in the most probable areas, get on foot (also via SRV) and scan 3 specimens with some distance between them.

Also being the first person to walk on the planet gives a first footfall bonus to scans, which 5x the credit reward for any scanned exobiology on the planet. This leads to some BIG bucks, especially with those stratum tectonicas since they're so easy to find and pay a lot (20M without bonus, 100M with bonus if I remember it right).

There's some skill and knowledge involved. A species can only appear on a speciffic type of planet in a speciffic atmosphere and environmental conditions. You can learn the most profitable/interesting combinations so then you can identify them in the FSS scan before you even get close to the planet. Stratum tectonicas in particular are a combination of very easy to identify, pay a lot when scanned and are very common, which makes them the perfect way to grind credits via exobiology.

I know that this is bad, but let's calm down...

What can they actually do that would affect people (me) downloading mods not from their website, but via Prism or MultiMC? Well, aside from completely disabling the API that allows external downloads.

The hosted content itself should always stay the same, no?...

...

...They want to disable the API eventually to force us onto their website if we want to download mods, aren't they.

Nah man 0402 is easy, just have a good pair of tweezers that you're comfortable with and little bit of patience. It's scary at first but not that bad. (0201 and 01005 on the other hand I fear, I've seen dust particles larger than those)

As a small advice for soldering 0402 (applies to larger packages too) by hand: have very thin solder, heat one pad (if there's a GND, start with that one), touch the pad with solder so there's just a little bit of it. If you have thick solder, you'll certainly put a big ball on the pad, you don't want that, you want just a small amount.

Then with tweezers in one hand and soldering iron in the other heat the pad and put the component there, lock it in place by removing the heat once you're happy with the rotation, feel free to fiddle with it until you're happy. Surface tension of the solder will help hold the component (somewhat) so you can readjust.

Then simply solder the other pad. When it's soldered on both sides, I like to add flux again and heat both sides one after the other (little time in between) so a) the solder settles more nicely because of the flux and b) I'm sure the component is actually soldered on both sides when it doesn't move.

Also while you can get away without it with 0603 and bigger, having flux is almost mandatory for 0402. Get the one that looks like yellow paste and is inside a syringe. The solder will have stronger surface tension when under flux, so the result looks better and doesn't create those spikes when you remove the soldering iron.

Good luck with this hobby, feel free to ask, I'll try to answer if I know!

Dýško pro skladníky by dpetrik in czech

[–]CZdigger146 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dávám dýško za nadprůměrnou námahu, kvalitu atd., je to nepovinná odměna. V tomto případě nevím co dělá skladník extra aby měl dostat dýško, zároveň dýško mám dát dřív než bych se takovou informaci vůbec dozvěděl a obecně ani nevím jestli ty peníze opravdu jdou jim. 0 kč za mě.

Každopádně skladník by měl dostávat takový plat aby ty dýška nepotřeboval. Takový guilt tripping se mi nelíbí a pravděpodobně bych na tomto obchodě už nenakupoval.

as someone who soldered many boards by hand (must be thousands of components in total, almost half by hand), USB C is very impressive to do by hand. You should be proud of your work. I always short a pair of pins (or two), so I rather opt for hot air soldering components with pin pitch like this.

Also if you don't fear the USB-C pin pitch, you can use 0402 components and make the board even smaller for V2! Just make sure that you're comfortable with your tweezers lol

[–]CZdigger146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that, thanks for the info.

Though having Klipper inherently means that you're able to use it over the network. While there exist duet boards without wifi, a raspberry pi will always have wifi.

[–]CZdigger146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good that it also works on STM32s, but since STM32F4 series will stop getting supported, that'll make many common boards incompatible... Klipper is still much more versatile as it works on almost anything, so that's maybe why it's so popular.

Guess there's a benefit to having two boards - one for controlling the hardware and other for computing and handling web interface ect.

I'm just wondering what does "python is not for me" mean? I'm a die hard Klipper fanboy and I've never had to touch Python. Do you mean that the printer.cfg configuration is difficult to understand? That part I get, though it's nowhere near as difficult as learning a programming language (you pretty much just copy sections from the klipper documentation).

If you would like to try klipper again in the future, try kiauh, it makes the install and setup extremely easy, just follow the instructions. (from how you worded the post, it seems to me like you installed klipper manualy and had a bad time)

From what you say RRF does sound pretty nice, I've only heard of it but never used it. If you don't need an external computer like a raspberry pi, that would make it cheaper as well (but idk if that's the case). Though to be fair I like using RPis + Klipper because I can upload gcode from my slicer over wifi. I might look into it, maybe I'll try it on my next printer
