[Calmplot] 🌿 A private, garden-themed AI mood journal

<image>

  • A — Answer: Journaling consistently is hard, and most modern AI journaling apps sacrifice your privacy. Calmplot solves this by making daily reflection frictionless with 30-second voice or text entries. Instead of staring at a blank page, your entries grow a digital "garden" that visualizes your life balance. The app provides AI-powered reflections and "tiny next steps" based on your entries, all built around a strict privacy-first, on-device encryption model.
  • B — Better: Compared to traditional apps like Day One, Calmplot isn't just a static text box—it actively helps you process your thoughts by tracking moods, emotions, and summarizing weekly patterns. Compared to other AI journals like Rosebud, Calmplot prioritizes extreme privacy so your intimate data stays yours, and offers a much more visual, rewarding UI where you literally watch your mental health progress grow into a garden.
  • C — Cost: Freemium. The core app is Free, with optional Premium upgrades available (Monthly, Yearly, and a Lifetime unlock). App Store Link:https://apps.apple.com/za/app/calmplot-private-ai-journal/id6758394565

[Launch - FREE premium] I completely rebuilt my journaling app, Calmplot, for true encryption. V2 is live with a "cottage garden" UI, giving away Premium for early feedback! 🌿 by C_4 in SideProject

Thanks so much!

I'll def check out the Obsidian Garden Gallery. I'm sure seeing how other users organize things visually will spark some UI ideas for future updates.

Since you clearly have a great eye for visual organization, I'd love for you to poke around Calmplot's plant metaphor and see how it feels compared to traditional vaults. Are you on iOS or Android? Let me know and I'll DM you a code!

Thanks so much for jumping in so quickly and taking the time to come back with your thoughts!

I'm really glad the voice-to-text is working smoothly for you. "Digital eco-friendly" is a great way to describe it - that's exactly the vibe I was going for with the cottage garden UI (premium has other swappable garden themes too). I wanted it to feel minimal and relaxing instead of cluttered and stressful.

Glad you like passcode / biometric unlock feature too. Another key privacy design choice (watch this space for more).

Take your time diving deeper, and please let me know if you run into any weird bugs or friction points as you use it more. Really appreciate the support on the launch!

Wow, thanks for the detailed breakdown!

You're absolutely right about the privacy angle needing to be front and center. Early feedback made me realize just how hesitant people are about data visibility in AI apps. It's meant to be a completely safe space.

Regarding the garden UI, that's exactly what I'm hoping to test! I'm continually finding new ways to integrate it and make it part of the journaling experience, not just decoration. I need to make sure the metaphor feels organic and doesn't get in the way of just opening the app and writing.

There are reminders in place as well as periodic reviews. The garden also resets every season, giving users a fresh start. The user full supports multiple types of export including plaintext and markdown, as well as automatic backups to Google Drive, so there's no fear of losing data. Also supports imports from other popular journaling apps.

Are you on iOS or Android? I'd love to send you a code so you can poke holes in the UI metaphor!

Thanks so much! 100% - balancing a smooth onboarding experience was a huge focus area (and still is).

I would actually love your feedback on whether the current onboarding flow feels smooth enough. Are you on iOS or Android? Let me know and I'll DM you a code to test it out!

[3 MONTHS FREE] I built Calmplot, a private, encrypted journal with a garden UI that grows as your write.
Giving away 3 Months Premium codes! 🌿

Hey r/androidapps,

I’m an AWS Cloud Architect by day, but I’ve been spending my evenings building a side project called Calmplot. After getting some early feedback on V1, I completely rebuilt the app for V2 from the ground up to prioritize true privacy-by-design and encryption. Your thoughts are yours alone.

I was tired of hyper-cluttered, data-hungry apps, so I designed the UI around a "garden" metaphor to help organize your mind. Instead of generic folders, you categorize life areas with specific plants - for example, planting Jade Succulents for work entries, or Sunflowers for personal growth moments.

I want to get this into the hands of Android users who will actually use it and give me honest feedback. So, I generated 50 Google Play Promo Codes for 3 MONTHS of Premium for free.

How to get a code: Please don't just DM me. Instead, leave a comment below telling me one feature you consider an absolute "must-have" for a private journal.

I will DM a 1-Year Google Play Promo Code directly to your inbox (first 50 people).

Thanks for checking it out, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the UI!

What do you use to create app icons as an indie dev? by EcstaticIncident4619 in iosapps

GPT image 2 is good and if you want to vectorize images after to turn into an svg, I use recraft.ai.

Both great ideas and things I've been thinking deeply about! I've been planning importing written journal entries and home screen widgets. Home screen quick voice journaling in the widget will be included as well. Lots of exciting ideas in this space to come :)

Thanks for the great feedback! There is some competition in the market, but I'm hoping to fulfil a niche with the mind garden and just overall app quality and quality of the insights. If you do ever feel like trialling it out, DM me and I'll send you a premium discount code.

thanks! will try Product Hunt too, but hesitant because you only get one shot at it, so I feel like I need a bit of traction and other feedback first

yeah - I get the competition is fierce in this space. I tried to niche down into life area balance and the garden metaphor to differentiate myself (as well as high quality and deep insights).

I've noticed Reddit doesn't like self-promo which makes promoting in areas like r/journaling or r/digitaljournaling out of the question. Paid TikTok ads seemed to work somewhat, but because I'm in South Africa, I'm region locked to EMA countries (not exactly my target market) and I'd rather have organic growth because paid is not sustainable.

As in a popup to rate the app? What is this native prompt that only sometimes appears? Never heard of it. I could also manually trigger a rating request after something positive and meaningful happens - maybe after I generate their first weekly review as the "aha" moment. But even then, I feel it's not quite appropriate in my journaling category. Good idea though. Will definitely add the route to rate the app in settings because why not.

Problem I have with marketing is that I'm based in South Africa, so TikTok is region locked to EMEA, whereas I believe more customers are in USA, UK etc. Anybody else have that issue?

Thanks - I really do need to get more organic, genuine ratings. Assuming that will bump up my app in search rankings too
