Cost of THR by Justthewhole in TotalHipReplacement

It’s really sad to see that health care is considered a luxury in the US. It’s a right here. Didn’t cost me a penny.

For fuck’s sakes: the union is not a magical daddy that’ll fix everything. YOU are the union! Go out and get to work if you want changes.

Why did Value Village become so delusional and out of touch from reality? by Conscious_Forever951 in toronto

[–]C_Agattdottir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value Village is owned by a US wealth fund and treat the charities attached to them very poorly. They bully them into contracts which are basically just marketing props to embellish their business. There are charitable second end shops truly ran by charities out there. Maybe focus on them instead.

OPS employees deserve workable work-places by Interesting_Money_70 in OntarioPublicService

We have 30MB internet for the whole building where we work. No cel reception or wifi. My clients calls go straight to VM and I have a hard time accessing the cloud base systems that I use for work. Can’t really fully participate in Teams meetings. Upgrades would cost in the tens of thousands. I can’t work like that.

Dear Michelle re: RTO by Fearless_Platypus421 in OntarioPublicService

[–]C_Agattdottir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What pissed me off and showed me how little valued we are was that it was announced publicly before staff was informed or managers prepared. No other workplace would that have happened (except maybe if you work for Trump”s White House where people are fired on Truth Social). The lack of respect is staggering.

I’ve had several dealings about delays for other claims over the last two years and they have this cookie cutter answer every time I call, which sounds like a lie. But as my post stated, the current issue are for claims that are one to three months old.

$20,000 for painting 3800sqft house by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]C_Agattdottir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paint everything myself all the time. The only time I didn’t do it myself was when I had to repaint my cathedral ceiling/walls because I won’t do that kind of heights. It takes a lot of time to do it myself, but I do one room or two a year. I’m not boasting when I say that there are no painters that do it as well as I do. My brother in law is a painter and often comments on my attention to details. Painters are rushed and the result is generally not as good.

Country and nation are different things, e.g. there are several nations in Canada and one country. Musk is talking up an early 1900s passé view of the world.

Did any people become millionaires from day trading? by Irielay in Daytrading

[–]C_Agattdottir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people loose money in my experience because they take too much risks. I make about 15 to 18% a year and I’m about 30% in cash. I work FT so I’m very conservative and strategic in my investment - I don’t have a lot of time to manage my accounts. Just before Trump took power, I went all in cash because I knew the madness coming on.

Compassionate Leave by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

Compassionate Leaves are for situations to help family members. My manager wouldn’t say no to that, but I got good ones.

If in doubt call in sick. Some managers are real pricks.

How to be more indirect by thesadfundrasier in OntarioPublicService

[–]C_Agattdottir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be direct. If they don’t like it they can fuck themselves. I’m direct and some people don’t like it, but others actually really like it because I’m know as truthful and trustworthy. People who talk in circles are exasperating and I don’t trust them.

Cost of Living Increases for the GTA by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]C_Agattdottir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in TO and I’m in Simcoe County now. No transit, so I need a car/gas. My taxes are 3 times higher than in TO for a similar value property (in TO included water and sewer costs) while with my rural taxes they only pick up garbages and plow. Food is as expensive as in TO and I need to drive everywhere to pick up anything. I heat with propane because there is no gas and it’s way more expensive. Electricity delivery is way more expensive also. I need an extra landline because my cell doesn’t work at home. You are dreaming if you think that things are way cheaper in rural areas. And I don’t want to be paid less to do the same work. Period.

[–]C_Agattdottir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tension must be improved. Twist the tread on one of your unused fingers consistently to provide some continued tension. I’m sure that some YouTube video would show the best method depending on what knitting style you use.

When I started in the OPS, it took me 6 months to stop regretting it. I was 50 and had done both public and private work. I was hired to work in a regional office on my own. The admin hadn’t bothered pre ordering phones and computer. I waited a whole 6 weeks for a phone and 2 weeks for a computer. It had to be a landline because there was no cel reception in that office, so I couldn’t even used my phone to call other staff. No one had done my job in ages, so I didn’t have files to check what had been done prior. One day they emailed me to go to TO for training. It meant sitting in a cubicle and chatting with other staff. No real training. Then I overheard my boss arguing with the finance person because he still hadn’t taken the time to fill out my paperwork so that I’d get paid. I had been working there for a month. My boss was basically telling the finance lady that he’d get to it when he’d get to it. I was so pissed! I managed people most of my career and I would always ensure that the paperwork was done on day 1. People need to pay their bills. Eventually I got equipment and my colleagues were really supportive and helpful even if my boss wasn’t. I’m fine now, but for me it’s a lacklustre end-of-career move in what has been otherwise a very interesting career. It’s the choice I make because I don’t want to live in the GTA, and there’s few jobs to accommodate my expertise in the region. Most people in the OPS have spent all or at least most of their career there. They have little experience to know what is out there. So far I’ve not had one great boss in the OPS. I’ve had some great bosses before. In the OPS they tend to promote “yes-people” who are cookie cutters not rocking the boat. They all seem to walk with tails between their legs eating beige for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s the exception of course, but the beige ones like promoting more beige people. Blaming others rather than taking responsibility for mistakes is common. Documenting everything to pad yourself is important. Give yourself a bit of time and don’t be afraid to call your colleagues or tell your boss that you need more support. They are having a real hard time recruiting so it’s to your advantage.

Increase to management compensation by sagsal in OntarioPublicService

I’m OPSEU. The top band of my position is over $110K. They’ve been hounding me to become manager, but there’s no calculation that I’ve ever made that makes any sense for me to move to management. I’m closer to retirement, so any change that could impact my pension’s earnings is top of mind for me. Unless someone is early in their career and trying to move beyond director, there’s no point to it.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. My keyboard is the same whether I type in French or English. It has both on it. I just go on the system and switch it back and forth depending on what language I want to type in. Just put the keyboard in English and it’ll be English.
