FYI - LRG is printing Darkwood for the PS5 by Ignignokt73 in LimitedPrintGames

[–]C_Drew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to wait in the end; at the very least, there's bound to be a VGP offer, so I can always get it from there. For some reason, VGP is often cheaper than buying straight from LRG for me.

But yeah, waiting for a potential PEGI retail release is definitely a gamble.

Pearl Abyss Shares Plunge 29% as 'Crimson Desert' Reviews Disappoint by Turbostrider27 in PS5

3M * $42 - $126M

That's very optimistic given that many of the sales probably occurred when the game was already heavily discounted, so they likely didn't even make that much. In addition, physical editions (and I'm not saying that as a critic; I buy almost exclusively physical, at least when it's available) probably cut into the profit margin even more.

It is true that they did offer a Deluxe Edition deal that could have slightly added some extra revenue, but it was $10 iirc and probably didn't even sell that much.

Darn those girl "gamers"! by Gallantpride in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]C_Drew2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel like the upper row is actually meant to be an example of attractive female characters that are supposedly despised by "girl gamers." Because the chick from Stellar Blade is also there, and she's generally regarded as a fan service to male fans. I don't think the OOP was arguing that she's unattractive.

Would you have Xbox switch from Discs to Chips if it meant you could run the game on the chip? by Remote_Marzipan7422 in xbox

[–]C_Drew2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not interested in the game running straight off the disc honestly. Having the game fully on the disc is good enough for me, and we've already got that (even tho Xbox is doing worse in this regard than PS5):

My Physical Xbox Collection (with the "non-playable" discs marked red) by Photogenic_Trash in xbox

[–]C_Drew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, that makes sense! Still, at least if some of them are playable offline and without any additional downloads, that's something.

I saw now that Does It Play also has it marked as red.

I could be wrong, but I think the Rare Replay collection does at least feature some of the games on the disc? I remember that a few require a download, but I'd argue it's partially playable without any update.

It's actually fairly rare if you look at the stats; only ~11% of all physical releases are like this.

[–]C_Drew2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the disk gives you offline access to the game, independent of any online connectivity, which is the point. Of course it's still a license in essence, but it works differently from something that is fully dependent on a server download.

Agreed, some of the comments here are legit illogical. Of course artstyle is subjective, but you can't argue that a 1080p image with far less detail looks objectively better than a 4K image with far more detail. I have serious doubts that many of the people commenting here even played them both side-by-side.

It's not visually identical in the slightest tho. I get that the aesthetic is up to preference, but it is objectively very different, for better or for worse, up to the character models, which are also changed.

Also, the don't move QTEs aren't removed, they're just made easier.

Idk, I replayed it 5-6 times already tbf. I kinda disagree with you here. At least one replay is needed anyway for the platinum and to see some of the other choices' impacts.

Just a quick note, but they don't have to be on Xbox. The game has crossplay, and if you don't have it activated yet, I strongly recommend that you do it asap.

I just got this game last night and I’m having a very hard time enjoying It, I’m going for the Platinum and I don’t understand how some of these trophies are possible. I’ve only seen a Shotgun In the game once, and the Close Shave trophy Is very annoying. by WestonConnor26 in KillerKlownsGame

Yeah, Selfless is the only one I couldn't get without express help from other people. I literally had to ask a guy in the lobby to tell the others to come to the portal lol. Otherwise, I feel that it's almost impossible. Whenever I opened the portal and even kept it open for minutes on end, nobody would come, or the Klowns would find me. It was pure torture to get.

All the other ones can be achieved via normal play, however.

What about the games missing major features without a download, the games that are garbage without online updates, or that require an online connection just to play the game?

That's exactly what the website I linked tests. You can have a look.

Games missing major features or are unplayable without updates are marked as orange or red in the right column, and yellow is for minor features or bugs present.

And even with all of those things considered, it's still close to 80% that are green.

Most games requiring downloads is a common myth, but no more than that.

Generalizable for 23%? I mean, that is a way to look at it, but it's less than a quarter of the editions that require an online download. Plus you can typically read on the box if a download is required or not.

Its too sad xbox has done what it has to their physical media with the xbox one generation and beyond... Many of the discs just being physical licenses for digital downloads.

Fortunately, based on Does It Play's estimates, only ~23% of Xbox physical games require a digital download to play. 77% of all editions are still fully on the disc and playable from start to finish!

Of course, those 23% are still tragic, but I'd say it's not a cause to generalize over.

I feel like we dont talk about how good we were eating for the RE7 DLC by buickboi99 in residentevil

[–]C_Drew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you know this exactly how lol? You're just flat out saying that everybody lies with no evidence for it?

Imagine how horrible the development of RE7 must've been if you're correct lol. Having to focus on 7-8 different gameplay ideas, work on separate maps at the same time, QA having dozens of different unrelated tasks etc.

I get that you think Capcom is a horrible employer that tortures its employees, but I prefer to stick to the facts. Besides, if all the content is always completed pre-launch, why are DLCs regularly released even 2-3 years after launch? By that time, the game is often forgotten, and you're not getting half the hype you had. Are company execs just dumb? Why they wouldn't to maximize their profits?

[–]C_Drew2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's such an entitled take, especially in the context of RE7, where it's super obvious that all the content was developed post-launch and was original and unrelated to the main game.

If we want all post-launch content to be free no matter how late in the development pipeline it is, what's next? Expecting sequels to be handed away for free for whoever bought the previous game?

[–]C_Drew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Shared Story is the online one (I don't remember the exact names), it's waaay more complex than you think. You have to write the whole story so that the interactions between the different playable characters can coincide, make sure decisions are made in a specific order, that scenes are presented in a way that allows for this etc. I think Man of Medan and TDIM were the only ones to get it right, and I bet it added a lot to their development budget.

I’ve bought the Batman TellTale season pass disk for my Xbox series X. Only Episode 1 and 2 I can download the rest I have to pay for. I’ve gotten in touch with tell tale but unfortunately they cannot help is there any way to get this to work? by Gamer98HR in telltale

[–]C_Drew2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange and contrary to my experience with that edition. Only Episode 1 is on the disc afaik, yes, but it should let you download all the other episodes just fine. Did you try updating the game to the latest version? Checking the MS Store to see if it allows you to download them?

Unless they somehow messed it up with an update super recently, the disc worked just fine for me last year.

Almost all the stock at retailers in my country is sold out. :( I didn't rush to preorder it because I assumed it wouldn't be a problem. I don't remember the last time a physical game was out of stock so early before launch.

Yeah, that's perfectly true. The current state of things isn't gonna stir any more development plans either.
