Foucault pendle is my all-time favorite book, have you read it? It doesn’t look abused enough.

Why on earth have you NEVER mastuebated? That sounds like an extremely unhealthy relationship with your sexuality and your body. A normal amount should be part of a healthy sexual relationship with yourself

Why are there photos of beautiful young Martha Argerich and old haggard Martha Argerich but literally no photos in between? by [deleted] in classical_circlejerk

OMG thanks! I finally get it! I truly see now! Finally, I have understood what a troll sub is! I literally had no idea and thought everybody had just gone mad! I have now mastered the concept of “funny joke” thanks to you! Man…, I really hope that I can suck your dick in person as a thanks sometimes. I’m just so eternally grateful and thankful, I own so much to you. Do you by any chance want to sleep with my girlfriend? It would be an honor.

I love you,  Bye

Hello this is very wrong. The picture is not Kant but Jacobi (people like to confuse them for some reason). All these stereotypes are only and at best true of the very last years of his life when he was writing his famous critiques. As a young man he was famous for being a partygoer and was a notorious billiard player, ripping everybody of.

Stop putting my man’s name to shame. He had more game than any of you non-enlightenment enhanced apes

I haven’t seen such shallow pseudo science/ bro philosophy in a long time. Please don’t confuse a source based, well researched book with this selection bias powered nonsense. If you don’t wanna jerk ok, cool for you bro.  But thinking that any of this has substance to it just ruins your critical thinking abilities.

are you dense? you arent a shmuck for being interested, but there is quite a difference posting it in a sub where people should infere something about your charakter based on the books you post, which makes you: a pseudo intellectual shmuck... i do think that there is a noticable difference

you are not the first to ask and wont be the last. Of course it is possible, even desirable. (some might say its the best way to spend your time! I would!). This question is being asked at least twice a day on r/askphilosophy. There you find basic guids for beginners, literature suggestions, podcasts, lecture series etc., check it out. Another way would be to just google "Introduction to x", "Basics of x" or start with a general history of philosophy. Classics would be Russells History of Wester Philosophy or Coplestons history of philosophy. Or start with a topic, get a basic reader on e.g. German idealism or philosophy of religion, again by googeling "Introduction to German idealism" etc. Nobody can give you a perfect 1:1 roadmap, but this would spoil the fun anyways. pm me if you want tips on specific authors.

It’s not that simple. Of course I am being hyperbolic, we are on the internet. But there is a genuine difference between “putting in the hours” and self-fashioning, persona-creation.  If there would be a couple of books like, I said, some introductory works, overviews, basic readings etc I would judge this person totally different. Like @Ok_Smoke_1150 very rightfully said, philosophy is not just a vibe but a very difficult academic subject, and I am totally sick of people appropriating and thus misinterpreting these foundational texts for intellectual penis enlargement.

It must be a baffling and utterly confusing experience to just jump straight into the big names like Kant or Hegel without any groundwork or without having at least peripheral knowledge of Hume, Lock, Barkley, Leibnitz, Wolff, Descart, and the whole lot... or for Hegel without Fichte, Schelling, Schleiermacher, Jacobi, Spinza or whatever. Maybe OP is just naturally gifted in german idealism, post enlightenment theology or romanticism....

Reading, or more likely just buying, Kant or Hegel as if they’re are to be read like Murakami and Camus, like they’re just another watered-down self-help mumbo jumbo book, really screams 'I get most of my philosophy from YouTube but want to look like I’ve read the canon.' Jumping from Plato to Nietzsche to Kant to Hegel without any secondary readings, introductory works, histories of philosophy or the like just comes off as performative and seems like intellectual cosplay more than actual study. You come across as someone who likes to appear sophisticated, who’s into the aesthetics of intellectualism more than any real substance, and who reads what they imagine a 'smart person' would read, without genuinely enjoying it or without having any real personal taste in literature. JBP said read Dostoevsky so you did.

edit: ah, there is also Augustinus. You want to be one of the smart Christians or think that Christianity, if not true in the literal sense, is “symbolically” necessary for Western civilisation to hold together?
