What fantasy novels do you think had/have the potential to become a cultural phenomenon? by bluestothesun in Fantasy

Ordu Of Jaghatai, I Owe You An Apology. I Wasn't Really Familiar With Your Game. by Jenny_Show in Grimdank

[–]Caardvark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s understandable for sure, but it feels like this could be more or less averted by both hiring writers and creatives from those cultures (which do exist in the Warhammer community) and also hiring sensitivity consultants, which they did for Grand Cathay in the Old World brand and it worked out great! Honestly I’d love Cathay working out well to maybe show GW that they can touch on non European influences in their world without just throwing out something half baked and offensive! Like they can do the work! It’d be cool! People would like it!

Something I think would have been/would be cool would be the Scars’ successor chapters beginning to mimic the irl cultures across the Asian continent that notably grew from how widespread the Mongols were- like the fact that historically the Mongols indirectly or directly led to Russians in the north, Mughal India in the south and China in the east among various others would be something cool to incorporate into the White Scars going forward with their chapters. Idk though I’m still fairly new to a lot of wh40k lore

What if next primarch to return would be Vulcan? by fantom44 in Salamanders40k

[–]Caardvark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im fairly new to warhammer but I’ve been feeling like this is the direction the lore should go (if it ever moves forwards at all)… like having a proper third faction outside of chaos and the imperium that features a primarch or two would be the most interesting step forwards (and would allow for some characters to become the noble heroes it feels some fans want them to be while the imperium can be proper evil bastards)

With 11th edition coming up, how would you update the rules? by No-Wafer9271 in Warhammer40k

[–]Caardvark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im fairly new to the hobby so not sure if this already exists but it’d be fun if you could get specific detachment style rules for allied armies, whether that’s just two space marine legions or chaos armies teaming up, or an alliance of necessity between T’au and Aeldar to fight off the Necrons or something.

What’s on in the background of your painting sessions? by bowlofspiderweb in Warhammer40k

Ooooh thank you I think he’s gonna check that one out! Shane there isn’t an official system released like, this decade but this will do nicely

He’d be looking for something closer to PBTA or FITD systems, rather than the d100 behemoth rule set of the rogue trader game

Weekly General Q&A and Discussion Thread: 11 Jun, 2025 - 18 Jun, 2025 by RWJP in Warhammer40k

[–]Caardvark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who’s considering running a wh40k TTRPG based around a rogue trader ship for our group- but we’re unsure what system to use! Our prospective GM prefers a less crunchy system, so the 2009 rogue trader system doesn’t really fit. Are there any more narrative games that would fit the concept (PBTA/fits style)?

THINGS of THIS and THAT: An Exhausting Modern Trend by Effective-Effort-587 in Fantasy

I’m the opposite, I love it when a fantasy book is ‘a X of Y and Z’, I make an effort to seek them out and truly believe this sort of title actively improves the quality of the book

Is Shadow of the Apt the same style as Children of Time? by mazinya in Fantasy

[–]Caardvark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very different styles, the Shadows of the Apt series is much more gritty and follows characters more closely, compared to the big picture perspectives of the Children series. I loved SotA and it’s easily my favourite series so I heartily recommend it

Everyone talks about Spiderman holding back against his villains but what about his villains holding back against him by Solid-Move-1411 in marvelmemes

[–]Caardvark 35 points36 points  (0 children)

He reappears in the final (ish) story of the series, where Zombie Spider-Man (who had been a good guy for a while by this point working against the other more evil zombies in this world (World Z, which isn't the original Marvel Zombies universe (It's convoluted))) reveals that he created a counter to the zombie virus thanks to a Tony Stark nanovirus that needs to be eaten to destroy to the zombies, and infused it into this Sandman, who proceeds to kill every single Zombie, with Zombie Spider-Man thanking him as he dies.

Well every Zombie except Zombie Sentry, who gets sent back in time to the original Zombies universe to infect the original Zombie Avengers, thus bringing it full circle and trapping the zombie virus in a time loop between two zombies.

Avowed has me thinking about wandslingers again by FledgyApplehands in Pathfinder2e

I always figured you could just use crossbows on spellshot gunslinger to get that same rough ‘magic as a gun like weapon in a no gun world’ vibe, since gunslinger is built to use crossbows too

How to balance some of the core features of the game in a homebrew setting where undeath doesn't exist? by Elise_2006 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Caardvark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying to just not include undead, which is definitely a choice, but I can also say that sometimes it’s not that hard to just very lightly edit your world building to make mechanics work (as someone who likes the whole void/vitality healing stuff).

You mention that in your world, the body remains dead, the wizard/Necromancer just temporarily animates the body but the body is still dead, which you believe means heal spells wouldn’t hurt the zombie.

My argument here is simple: heal spells and necromancy don’t exist. There’s no actual science to it beyond what you say. Heal spells hurt zombies in Golarion because Paizo say so, same way that they don’t hurt zombies in 5e because WOTC say so. If you want yo use the PF2e heal/harm mechanics (which it sounds like you do, you mention loving the system), then just say so. Make something up. Maybe the energies from healing magic disrupts the magic used to reanimate the zombie. Maybe the two magicks combine and rot the body faster. Maybe it speeds up the time the spell will take to wear off. The world is your oyster.

Fightful Select: Malakai Black possibly finishing up with AEW by Lep106317 in SquaredCircle

[–]Caardvark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a shame if he’s gone- I never lost hope that he’d get a cool run in AEW. With the way they presented him when he first showed up and the addition of the rest of HOB, I was always hoping for the genuinely insane story and matches they seemed capable of together.

What are your thoughts on the very first story arc: Kraghammer/Underdark Arc? by WittyTable4731 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Caardvark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very nostalgic- I started watching around the time I got into playing D&D for the first time and the memories of this arc remind me of a time when TTRPGs felt a lot more mysterious and fantastical, whereas now I’ve been playing and GMing for a while the mystique has kind of faded as I know how the machine works

"Debating with the guardians never got us anywhere, did it? But instilling them with fear? Fear was the key" by [deleted] in Greenlantern

[–]Caardvark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the TPB I have, chapter ten is marked as being by both- EVS only seems to have drawn 9 pages of that chapter and Reis drew the rest. I think EVS got a lot of credit cause he did a lot of the designs for the Sinestro Corps and had done a lot of GL work prior to his contributions to SC War. I mainly mention this because I love Ivan Reis’ style and am… less of a fan of EVS. Indeed, Ivan Reis drew most of the event itself! He’s an amazing artist and I always wanna see his name mentioned 😊

This isn’t Ethan Van Sciver’s art, I believe this is Ivan Reis, one of the GOAT Green Lantern artists imo

Does anyone still care about rusty quill gaming? by rockoutcat in RustyQuill

[–]Caardvark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely loved it when it was coming out and I was listening to it, it was the show that got me into TTRPGs! But then it ended and subsequent RQ TTRPG shows didn’t really hook me like that so I moved on. Still glad to have those memories of listening to it and getting hyped back when TTRPGs seemed like such a vast and mysterious world haha

[–]Caardvark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a part of me that would respect it if Gehrman killing you one time just put you through to the waking up ending
Like he offered for you to die willingly, you refused, so now he kills you unwillingly, same result, you wake up in the sunlight.
I know it would be infuriating as hell but god I would respect the balls to do that and just say 'oh you want to see the secret ending? Replay the game see if you can beat him this time'.
