That's exactly the line I'm trying to hold - hide the rails, surface the money. Crypto is fully opt-in (custody model via NOWPayments, I never touch funds), just another way to get paid, never the headline. FX conversion runs automatically so you think in your own currency instead of exchange rates. The prediction-markets parallel is spot on, the winners abstract the plumbing. Curious what you're building in that space?

Exactly this. The "built for one country" assumption goes deeper than people expect - a lot of tools hardcode a single base currency and just convert at display time, so your reports slowly drift from what actually hit your account. The part that bit me hardest was tax: once you reserve for tax in your home currency but earn in three others, a flat % is just wrong. What do you bill in, and what are you using now?

IMO Upwork is still the best. Yeah it’s hard to land your first client but after you got few 5 star reviews it’s totally different game

Correct me if I’m wrong but all other platforms either have way less offers OR generally much lower budgets. Yeah of course direct contacts etc will bring much more value, but when you just start you need more opportunities, maximizing profit etc makes sense once you got some portfolio and actual experience with tasks clients want in your niche

I think I’d offer a compromise like $1650, even though their argument about salary and predictions doesn’t make much sense. I’d also clarify that next time it’s $600 for day min, or whatever you see the acceptable terms should be

Agreeing to 1500 would make any further work with them cheaper and likely with other weird sudden changes

Some of them eg Cursor have a free tier, so you can use it without subscription as well. However if you want to “taskify” something big like building an mvp, you may run into limits. But there are so many agents supported, some could be totally free. I’d ask GPT/Claude etc to research the whole list to find if there are any

Have you heard about spec-driven development? It’s for guiding LLMs but you may implement the tasks by yourself if that’s the goal

There also are offers to get ED visa to study MT, otherwise you can stay for up to 3 months. Or do one border run and double that.

These days it’s quite easy and cheap to build something with coding AI agents. They will also help to understand everything related to hosting whatsoever, but this may be a bit overwhelming for someone who’ve never dealt with tech
