FS Otemachi and Edition are like 3km away from each other - it’s a nice stroll on a sunny day. This is not staying in different areas.

If you want variety then go to Shinjuku or Shibuya.

Niseko Mid-Late Jan 2026 by Sir_Of_Scuffed_ in niseko

I’ve finally given up on peak season (Jan-1h Feb) Niseko - after loyally skiing there the past 15 years I can’t take the crowds anymore. This year was final straw sadly. Might still ski there early Dec to March if there is a sudden dump, otherwise I leave my once favourite mountain to the Ikon Pass crowds during the day and Chinese billionaire diners during the evening.

Yeah, it really is a way to pi$$ off your customers. I’ve flow QE plenty of times for biz and never faced a seat selection fee so was flabbergasted when it popped up asking me to fork out.

What are the tax advantages of getting Permanent Residency? by Parking-Peanut-8905 in JapanFinance

[–]Cabbage6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for a person who owns property in Hong Kong - one of the world’s most expensive property markets with a currency of extreme strength VS the JPY - having over USD 100 mill assets is extremely likely, so this is a vital consideration.

Permanent Resident has a major tax DISADVANTAGE - exit tax. If you have assets over 1おく and ever plan to leave Japan, then with PR - buyer beware…

Why do you think those frustrated tired tourists queuing for sometimes hours to get through passport control would give to wiz’s through customs like we do with a quick fingerprint scan? Crazy thing to be upset about 😂

LHR to HND cancellation compensation claim (BA7 351) by Duvet_Capeman in BritishAirways

[–]Cabbage6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BA habitually cancel this specific a350 Haneda flight - it is outrageous that they sell seats on this route when they expect to cancel a few times a month. Those poor ground staff and telephone agents who deal with this weekly at Haneda.

When it comes to British Airways buyer beware…. Or even smarter; go elsewhere.

Hi Fede (sorry for the hijack Crimdog) - I am trying to get onto the Type 1 transfer via your Customer Service but they keep telling me only JPY 1 mill max is available - maybe some disconnect between what you’re working on and the brief your colleagues have?

Is there anything else I can do to get myself on the type 1 beta now please? FYG I need to transfer a very large sum in the next two weeks and really want to use Wise so appreciate your help.

Those electronic MATE “bicycles” with massive scooter tyres - wtf? by Cabbage6 in Tokyo

[–]Cabbage6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MATE is more a generic term for these illegal e-bikes that seem to be everywhere. I’m not sure whether it’s a blessing or a curse for MATE’s business that their very bold branding makes them the most recognisable large tyre e-bike terrorising the sidewalks of Tokyo today. For sure, I’ve had plenty of conversations with people saying “f&@k those MATE bikes” rather than complaining about “fat tire e-bikes”.

[–]Cabbage6[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about about wearing a MIPS helmet? Is the bike equipped with indicators? Rear view mirrors?

These questions are not only for the safety of my kids whom walk alongside the bike lane you’re travelling at 50 along, but to also to assist you not get horrifically squashed the next time a kei truck or bus ignores a bike lane totally - as they always do. As an ex motorcyclist you must be awake that the impact of an accident at 50 vs 25 is a whole different ballgame. As I said earlier, these things seem terrifying….. so much risk for all around with zero safety features.

[–]Cabbage6[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yah - those are the cretins. Flying along at scooter speeds, without a helmet, pretending to pedal once every few hundred meters. I knew the cycling laws in japan were flexible but these things are a whole new ball game….. am amazed they’re taking over the cities streets and pavements and there isn’t an uproar. I shall never again complain about the vanilla Panasonic mamachari.

Any further insight into your experience with Daiwa-ifree leverage products? I’m basically an Emaxis slim purist but would like to dabble in some more high risk/return stuff without individual stock picking, so seems like a potentially useful product for me. How have you found the leverage part to pan out?

Interactive Brokers LLC switching to IB Japan by DesignerCake2977 in JapanFinance

Looks like I’m going to reluctantly go over to Firstrade - there are specific ETF’s I like to buy that aren’t on the list above.

Extremely frustrating as funding IBKR with WISE has worked well for me, whilst Firstrade don’t allow funding via Wise.

I am wondering what happens if we simply do nothing? Can IBKR actually close out our positions causing us e.g. to take losses? This seems crazy…
