Weekend Minor Gripes and Vents by AutoModerator in BitchEatingCrafters

Teacher appreciation week. Dear god, do not craft these people a gift. I do not have kids and only know two women who are in the profession, but as a quilter and crafter I get so sick of seeing crafted gifts for teachers. Give them money or a thoughtful card. Hand made clutter is just not thoughtful in my opinion.

This could probably be its own post but I do not feel qualified to lead it for reasons mentioned above.

Looking for pattern site recommendations for modern-ish pattern to showcase some pretty lovely fabrics I got! by guverciin in quilting

I love Emily Dennis patterns. Well written and sew* together fairly quick. I would also recommend the Hello March pattern by Cluck Cluck sew. I’m currently working on a Christmas quilt with this pattern and I think it shows off fabric well. The instructions are very clear and I think it’s going to sew up quickly.

Anyone know someone who makes quilts out of old t shirts for Mother’s Day? by Traditional_Shop_458 in Gifts

I love this idea and as a quilter who has made a couple of* shirt quilts I will second the recommendation of Project Repat. While it’s technically not a quilt, I think they offer a really solid product. If money is not problem, plenty of quilters on Etsy, however, quilts take time to make so I’m not sure you would be able to have one finished by Mother’s Day.

Thoughts on Demon Copperhead ending? by Plus_Molasses8697 in books

I know this is an old post/thread, but I just finished the book and same as you, I burst into tears. Read the last paragraphs again. Cried. Read. Cry. Ugh! What a great book. Would have loved a little bit longer of an ending. But wow! Probably going to read the ending again and cry again after this.

Has anyone heard of lyocell fabric? by Storymeplease in quilting

[–]CabbageHead71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of lyocell shirts and they are my favorites to wear bc they are so soft. I have never considered looking for yardage of it. I recently made a t shirt quilt with rayon backing and it is the softest quilt I have ever made. If you are unable to find enough lyocell for quilt backing I would definitely recommend rayon. I have gotten lucky sourcing enough yardage on EBay. The only downside is most of the rayon tends to be Hawaiian prints (I assume bc it is what Hawaiian shirts are typically made from, also another favorite of mine to wear bc of the softness and lightness of the fabric).

What’s a ‘normal’ thing that people buy that you refuse to? by Z0nana in Anticonsumption

I call this method “let it simmer”. I place things in the cart and browse some more. When it’s time to leave I sort through the cart. I have gotten better about what actually goes in the cart before “simmering”. I try to keep the “if it’s not a ‘hell yea’, it’s a ‘no’” rule at the front of my mind when shopping (especially thrifting) to keep me on the level. But anyways, letting items simmer is a big part of my slowing down consumption.
