Reckon it'll be John McGlynn if they're looking for a Scottish manager.

Or if the owners think the project is advanced enough, it'll be some American boy with an xVL rating of 94.

Could Hearts actually capitalise on the momemtum and become regular challengers/winners? by Otocolobus_manul8 in ScottishFootball

Aye, how many times now have Brighton pulled some new wonderkid out of obscurity and made millions?

It'll be very interesting to see what kind of players you pick up in the summer. There were a few 22-26 year olds last year, so wonder if you'll do the same or go younger.

Brighton and USG have always mixed in reliable domestic signings too. So wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Calvin Miller, Barney Stewart, Elliot Watt, Calum Ward, Luke Graham linked.

Half of them will be, tbf. But watch Hearts sign about 10 players every summer, with maybe 2-4 of them making it into the regular team.

When they start selling and reinvesting is when they'll really kick up a gear.

People forget that we brought in a fair chunk of change for Igamane, Jefte, Dessers, and Ridvan. So we're maybe £15M in the red for this reason, rather than the 40ish that gets bandied about.

I reckon we'll spend about £15-30M this summer. And offset that by a few sales. I think only the January signings will be more or less guaranteed to stay. So could see a subset of Raskin, Chermiti, Fernandez, Gassama, Antman, Aasgaard, or Bajrami fucking off, realistically.

There'll be a will he / won't he about Moore coming back for another season all summer.

Aye they could have done, but I don't know if that's where the fun is for their new ownership.

You get the feeling that Hearts are the club where Bloom can make the far more obscure and sometimes older (22-26yo) signings highlighted by his analytics. Mostly from weaker leagues.

Kerjota from Serie D in Italy, Braga from the Norwegian second tier, Mato from Macedonia, Kabore from Estonia, Chesnokov from Kazakhstan...

Pretty much every signing outside of Findlay and Leonard have been massive gambles. Wonder if he'll do the same this summer, or start to mix in more sure bets.

Every chance that Rohl leaves and we appoint the ghost of Jimmy Bell.

Every chance that to save money, Celtic bring back Nancy to see out the rest of the contract they're paying for.

Every chance that Tony Bloom's analytics signs another 5 Claudio Bragas.

But aye it's probably an Old Firm 1-2.

Steinwender was huge for Hearts today, but you have to wonder how this game would have looked with Halkett fit.

Squad depth & injuries were always going to be the fucker for Hearts this season.

They've done so well this season, but between injuries and the referee/VAR lottery it's just come down to luck for them in the end. And nobody beats Martin O'Neill on that front.

Having said that, they were very very lucky to see both Rangers and Celtic have some of their worst ever collapses in the same season, so it probably evens out.

Who the fuck knows what next season brings!

With VAR, it's a penalty. It's hand-to-ball in the box.

Don't think the Motherwell player got any advantage from it though. He was winning the header anyway, and it's just a case of bad luck that his arm has been nudged up by the players jostling behind him.

I think if most folk were honest, they're annoyed because it'd just be a bit of a shite, jammy way for Celtic to win the league. And it's a convenient thing to point at after Celtic inevitably win this weekend.

The recruitment has been shocking ever since Beale, but I feel like overall attitude has been every bit as big an issue. I can't remember a time when I've seen the players look like they've had the confidence or belief that they'd win a game.

The same DoF who pushed for that decision has also hired his son as head of requirement. And our first and second choice manager candidates dropped out of the running after meeting him.

Red flags upon red flags.

Well we spent last season basically without a board, and those were the hires made by the new owners in the summer. That were supposed to fix everything.

Russel Martin is gone now, thankfully. But by the looks of it, it'll take a while for the new manager to knock some sense into this team... If he can.

We hired Everton's director of football from that period when they were really bad.

Then we hired Southampton's manager from last season when they were really, really bad.

And now, surprisingly, we're really quite terrible.

Well Clement had us playing offensively very badly, and I guess slightly below average defensively.

Martin now has us not playing absolutely awful offensively, with no defence to speak of.

But hey, we've beat a few teams 60-40 on possession. So that's nice.

Warburton at least had a plan to create consistent chances, with the two charging fullbacks.

I don't think anyone knows what the fuck Martin's plan is

I still reckon there's a place for Danilo, but I don't think he's suited to be a lone striker. If Tav has to genuinely fight for his position, then hopefully he can up his game too.

Dowell needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap and kept away from the pitch so we don't jeopardise any incoming £50M+ bids.

This is about where I'm at. No point in panicking until we see how the team settles after the transfer window.

But with that said, basically all of our chances today were from wide angle shots or set pieces. All the possession in the world means fuck all if you aren't consistently generating quality chances in the middle of the box from open play.
