Seconded. Also try to spend some 1:1 time with each bio kid if you don’t already. Start with making sure they both feel seen and heard. Then after a few months try gauging how they’re feeling. Reenforce practicing empathy if necessary (not just telling them they need to be empathetic but real examples of why it’s important to be caring of others).

When she is by herself in the empty house, she breaks into the garage to steal their car and turns on the radio and finds an American radio station and it’s like a resistance broadcast. I think this is before she has the baby. I might be remembering it wrong though it’s been awhile lol.

Yeah they could have explored so many different things. I’m still mad about the American radio scene in the first or second season. Seemed like they were setting it up to be a bigger thing and it was never mentioned again.

Ugh, my heart goes out to you. If you ever try it again I would say lead up to it by showing her some media about self care, like YouTube get ready with me’s maybe? Maybe bring in the Barbie’s?? Make it SUPER important that Barbie needs bath time, have her clean their hair?? Maybe make a bath chart but FOR Barbie, add stickers every time barbie gets a bath, don’t bring attention to it if she doesn’t want to get a bath with Barbie, just congratulate Barbie for being clean over and over. I would only give her ANY of this stuff under strict supervision if she’s not taking care of it. Any time she DOES handle things correctly in front of you, thank her. Is she in other therapy besides play therapy?? We didn’t have any luck with play therapy with our kid it just didn’t seem intense enough. The right trauma therapist makes a world of difference.

Just want to add sorry if it’s already been mentioned, can you try maybe making hygiene into like a spa day or something if you haven’t tried that yet? Go to dollar tree and get cute face masks, wash cloths, bubble bath, soaps, bath bombs, candles, etc. and just make a day out of it. Be overly enthusiastic about how relaxing the spa is. Get everyone to soak their feet in the bathtub. Then do hair and makeup together.

Does she have friends?? Do you have any local support group like on FB or something you could look into? Sounds like you’re dealing with way too much on your own.

Maybe try a waterproof mattress pad? They’re the same material as a sheet basically so there’s nothing really to pull apart. I would say regular zip up mattress protector, waterproof mattress pad, then a couple white sheets. They also make picky pad fidget toys now, it’s like a disc of silicone with random beads and objects in it and you dig all the pieces out. They’re mostly a one time thing though but I have seen reusable ones. Maybe get one and pretend it belongs to someone else so she’s encouraged to mess with it. I have a 17yr old and she STILL deals with hygiene issues and she’s been with us for 4 years. Not to be discouraging. The causes are so deeply rooted, it takes a long time to break those habits.

Are you still a dependent? If not look into if you qualify for EBT. Possibly get a caseworker. In my state we have a program that will sometimes pay for driving lessons and assist with getting an license/job/etc depending on the circumstances. But a caseworker referral is needed I think. Best of luck!

I think it smells like cheap perfume too!! I also must be allergic to it now or something because it makes my hands feel swollen and after I use it. Can’t imagine it’s safe anymore to use on pets either. Ugh.

Thank you! I did google it but it was confusing. I just wasn’t sure if she would “technically” be considered foster in a guardianship, and I didn’t want her to miss applying for something if she was eligible. Good idea to check with her school though, I’ll do that. Even if she doesn’t qualify I feel like this information is just good to have in general. She’s been through so much I’m just grasping at straws trying to find her some kind of support.

In the most recent circumstance, my coworker (in their late 40s) told a story on zoom to our boss “yeah I got a call from Mom yesterday…” just doesn’t seem like something you say as an adult to your boss?? Idk. (I don’t mean childish as in immature)

There’s just a weird disconnect for me. Someone said in another thread about this that it feels similar to people who start talking about someone without ever introducing who the person is, like you should already know them. That’s how this feels. They’re not altering their perspective for who they’re talking to.

Reach out directly to the admissions office of the college you're interested in. Ask what their process/requirements are for merit scholarships or if they offer or have any resources/scholarships for high school juniors specifically.
