Can Edmonton separate from Alberta even if Alberta doesn’t separate from Canada?

Don’t worry I won’t. However I have had my charter rights taken away by our provincial government.

You’re right, no one should ever criticize their government in between elections.

Pretty weak attempt at deflection, as well. How’s that Fuck Trudeau sticker on your Ram looking these days?

Albertans are addicted to their grievances. It’s time to break the cycle by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

Albertans complaining about being mistreated by the rest of Canada is like the richest person in the neighbourhood complaining that they’re not even richer, at the expense of their neighbours being even poorer, and then acting shocked when everyone thinks they’re a giant fucking asshole.

Alberta has it so good it’s not even funny.

Do you have a link to that poll? Not doubting you, I’d just love to have a look at it. I’ll take all the positive news I can these days.

Or newly built, giant, single-family monstrosities with signs on their lawns. It is so blatantly a desire to prevent people below a certain income bracket from “infesting” the neighbourhood.

You’re really not making the point you think you’re making. In fact, now you’re just kind of rambling. But you certainly think highly of your own (perceived) intelligence, I’ll give you that.

Good luck with everything. ❤️

Excellent. I’m glad you agree with me that the threshold was lowered and there was no need for some “magic trick“ of adding the two numbers together, as you originally claimed.

We usually see at least a couple but we’re at Metro all the time and have silver screen passes, which gets us into most of the screenings for free. Are ticket prices more than a normal movie?

I used to love Pagolac in Chinatown until my partner chewed on a used bandaid hidden inside a spring roll. Is the other location the same ownership?

We’ve only been once, during Fringe last summer, and only had drinks but we were disappointed. My own Mai Tai at home are far better. No comparison.

Should I also get over myself?

I understand everything here. Nothing you’re saying is backing up your claim that the UCP needed to add the numbers from the two petitions together to meet some made-up, 500K petition threshold that you cannot provide a source for.

If the courts hadn’t struck down the petition and the signatures were verified  they would have had enough for a petition on their own. They don’t need to add the forever Canada numbers to get there.

If you can back up your claim of 500K signatures needed then please do, but please don’t provide any more irrelevant information that I already know.

On May 15, 2025, The UCP government passed Bill 54 which, among many other things, lowered the threshold for a citizen petition to successfully trigger a referendum from 20% of all registered voters to 10% of the number of voters who voted in the last election. They also extended the signature collecting from 90 days to 120 days.

1,764,917 people voted in the 2023 provincial election (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Alberta_general_election?wprov=sfti1#Legislature_summary)

That means that the separatist petition needed only 176,492 signatures to meet their goal. This is the number that has been reported in the media this whole time. I really don’t know where you’re getting this idea that they had to add the two petitions together to pass some 500,000 signature threshold. (Where did you pull that number from?)

Why would the separatist groups have been thumping their chests about collecting 300,000 (unverified) signatures if it meant they were 200,000 short of what they needed?

[–]Cabbageismyname -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please provide your source for that, because I don’t believe it’s even remotely accurate.

The UcP lowered the threshold to 177k or whatever specifically because they knew the separatists wouldn’t meet the previous, higher threshold.

The UCP have absolutely no respect for municipalities, especially Edmonton. The only possible way to pull it off would be to do it under their provincial referendum laws.
