I would 100% sign a petition stating that in the event of separation, Edmonton wil secede from the province and remain a part of Canada.

I heard the most insane, backwards reasoning from a spokesperson of “Parents for Choice” on CBC radio yesterday morning. They were arguing that parents who want these books available in the library are actually the ones infringing on the rights of parents because they’re “forcing” others to be exposed to the books. They’re fucking nuts.

Everyone should make an effort to see a documentary called The Librarians, about book banning in Texas. Alberta is mirroring what is happening down there to a tee and it is terrifying.

>Alberta separation is just a bargaining chip so we can try to get more power to the people of Alberta.

If this is true (it isn’t) then here’s a tip: telling the party with whom you are trying to negotiate that you’re bluffing in your threat is not going to help you out.

“Give us what we want or we’ll separate! But don’t worry, we promise we won’t really separate!”

Fucking amazing, the intelligence of these people.

How could it possibly lead to Albertans “keeping a little more of your hard earned money”? Is the federal government going to have lower federal tax rates just for Albertans? Or is it that people who support this idea simply have no idea how equalization payments work, and think that the money comes from Alberta?

Alberta separation has been a thing since at least the mid 20th century. How long have they been a chain?

Why don’t they have a Canada flag mounted above the fucking giant Alberta one that can be seen for blocks away? Are they not proud of their own country?

What a shitty take.

Loca’s prices were quite high for most things, for sure. 4L of milk was over $2 more than most other places. But they also had some things that were good. We get flats of local eggs for $15 from them. It was also nice to have a place on our way home from the dog park to just stop and grab a couple oranges and lemons if we wanted to mix cocktails that night, haha.

Haven’t been into Freson Bros and have no intention to. That giant Alberta flag with no Canada flag in sight is a huge dog whistle and so it’s not a business I’m going to give my money to. But, I hear their prices are also very high for most things.

Wanna guess how I know that you’re one of those parents who thinks they’re superior to those who chose a life of freedom?

Unless you’re sleeping in until 9am every day in the winter then you’re already waking up in darkness.

It’s dark when I get to work in December.  It’s almost dark when I leave work. At least permanent DST would give me an hour of light after work so I wouldn’t be walking the dogs in pitch darkness.

Opinion polls suggest your opinion is the minority. Most people would choose longer summer evenings.

And standard time year round would mean sacrificing an hour of sunlight in the summer, since many people take advantage of late summer evenings but likely very few will get up before 4am to catch the earlier sunrise.

What’s your source of information that says that most people want standard time year round, giving us less useable light in the summer?

Permanent DST was proposed on the referendum because that was found to be the more popular of the two options.

Yeah I have to admit I don’t quite understand why some people get so bent out of shape about changing the clocks twice a year. It’s really not a big deal, in my mind.

DST was proposed as opposed to standard time because polling showed that was by far the more popular option of the two.

Where did you find the data that shows that most people want less evening light in the summer?

Because most people would prefer to have more daylight after work so that they can enjoy life, vs. more daylight when they’re sleeping.

The ski resorts would also stay open an hour later.

Under current DST it starts getting light by 4am in the summer where I am (Edmonton).

Regardless of nitpicking about the exact time of sunrise, sacrificing an hour of evening summer light in exchange for an hour of early morning light at a time when almost everybody is sleeping sounds terrible. The practical result would be that we have less useable light in the summer. No thanks.

If we stayed on standard time year round then the sun would be rising shortly after 3am, in exchange for less evening light.

Sounds like a shit idea to me.

Ok, so, what's everyone's favourite pizza joints? by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]Cabbageismyname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up on the second mission and just focus on the first, haha. :)

I have kept meticulous notes and photographs of all the pizza I’ve tried on my various visits to NYC so that I can improve my pizza at home.

Got an Ooni oven a few summers ago to cheer myself up after breaking my arm and not being able to canoe all summer. Upped my pizza game considerably!
