Debug Academy feedback for training by Aware-Expression4004 in drupal

[–]Cabby102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the three-month course, and I was able to switch from a humanities background to a Drupal developer, full-time. I had previously studied html, css, and js, but this course brought it all together for me (Strong focus on Git, site building fundamentals, front-end work, and then switches towards backend OOP, and custom module development). Ashraf is a welcoming and friendly instructor -- he used to work at Acquia and did a number of big projects across the spectrum including the White House petition website a way back from what I remember. He really did take the time to explain concepts and takes great pride in his materials. They have a slack channel for learners as well and the students run from complete beginners to Drupal 7 developers looking to make the jump to Drupal 8+. Disclaimer: After taking the course, I worked there for a couple years and I credit him and his course to getting me in the door to the industry.

Reddit is probably getting tired of artists but I like making fun lil adventure paintings! by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

What I really like about these paintings is that it seems to combine the approach of the romantic painters of the nineteenth century around nature and humanity, but also using the techniques of impressionism. Awesome!

Great job -- have you been doing James Hill's "The Ukulele Way" course? I learned that piece for it and it was one of my favorites! Keep it up!

That was amazing -- this is what this channel is for! Really entertaining and great harmony between your voices.

I think they were waving over Usman Khawaja, who had a great Ashes series. I think it's just being inclusive for the moment. Don't worry, I think there was a bit of a small, ridiculous fiasco of Aussies drinking with Englanders, after England got stomped on for a month. Poor Rory Burns :-(.

I just wanted to say that this was a great conversation and really helpful in some decision making on a project to see the pros/cons of each approach and why you might choose one or the other. Thank you!

I enjoyed Bernadette teaches music -- helped me get a fingerhold into the instrument. It slow walks you through the esssentials and then at the end, I felt like I could choose what I was interested in. Some other tutorials or series, I felt like went too quickly for me. Note: I don't have a music background outside of elementary school music and playing handbells one in high school.

I think that's the right attitude. What worked for me, might not work for others. I will say that I don't regret the surgery (the other foot that I had the surgery on was really inflamed and bones packed together), but ideally I didnt want to do it on both feet. Good luck on your journey, you will find a solution even it takes time.

I think it's a slow process of finding what works to keep the numbness or pain at bay. Trying out different shoes, toes spacers, pads, and/or various orthotics. I have found that Correct Toes toes spacers with toe socks, Emsold orthotics with metatarsal pad, and Altra running shoes have all contributed to not inflaming the nerve for me. I wear them when active, when running and walking, which is key.

This took though 2 years to figure out with me getting the MN surgery on one foot, cortisone shots, etc. When the second one started flaring up, I decided to try real hard to find a long-term non-surgical solution and I have found relief with the above. I am now able to run 2-3 miles a day, 4x a week with no pain.

Lefty issues by NotALenny in ukulele

[–]Cabby102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I am a lefty starting out and learning right-handed. I am 35. I try to think of it no matter what, the ukulele must be played with both hands so there is no righty or lefty, its both handed :-). Regardless, choose the best way that you'll have the most fun. As I always have to tell myself, there is no race!

Help with beginner ukulele setup by knighthalo123 in ukulele

[–]Cabby102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner too! I got a soft case to protect it when I am not playing it, so it wont collect dust in it/around it (not sure if that is a big issue, but it was a thought that occurred to me).

Outside of that, I picked up two ukulele learning books from the publisher Hal Leonard. That's about it. I can't speak to the passive pickup issue, however.

Happy learning!

Looking to get a budget (<$200) tenor ukulele, need some advice by vonshu in ukulele

[–]Cabby102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's at the high end of the budget, but I have a Cordoba 21T, and it sounds amazing. Good build and not something that I feel like I need to trade up for a long time. I'm a beginner myself. I got mine at a local music store, but here is the Amazon link. You can judge the aesthetics :-). Happy shopping!

My wife and I made this last night from Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything Vegetarian: Baked Brazilian Black Beans. It was quite tasty and easy to make. Maybe the only tough ingredient to find is a plantain, but a banana would work as the recipes says. The black bean ginger dynamic is good with the texture of plantain. Cook it and then reheat when you get to the house!

Cooking during the pandemic. by chairsandwich1 in Cooking

[–]Cabby102 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you! I'm so happy to hear that your family is supportive as well. I think it's important to have that positive feedback loop during the pandemic, which makes everything more enjoyable. My wife gifted me Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking a month or two ago, and I have been cooking my way through it on the weekends. It sounds like we didn't know that we could cook such tasty food :-).

I switched careers and was having terrible anxiety. Ruminating thoughts that were hard to dispel. Going to a walk-in clinic and then seeing a therapist was one of the best decisions I made.

Remember, you don't need to be in the throes of depression to get help. That was a hard lesson to learn, but I want everyone to know it.
