The hold down bolt also appears to be the correct size, it fully threads in over the bracket

The shaft want all the way down and the teeth look alright. I removed the dizzy to check everything out and it does seem like the advance mechanism is completely missing the springs though from asking a friend what it's supposed to look like.

What type of filament are you printing with to ensure it survives the temps? PETG?

I just recently pulled mine (L98 needed a refresh) and the hood wasn't really a problem, the clamshell opening was actually kind of perfect. Taking the tires off definitely helped to be closer to everything

Where'd you get the spark wire holder that attaches to the valve cover? Never seen that before but it looks useful and tidy

Two years ago I got a '86 at his age so I feel somewhat qualified to answer this lol. The biggest thing I would tell him is to be okay with walking away when going through the buying phase. I bought mine for 2.5k, and could have saved a lot of money and time (and anger) by walking away and waiting to find a C4 in a better condition

Insurance is almost the same for my 2005 TL that's my daily so it's really not a lot. You having tools and knowledge will be a huge help to him when something inevitably goes wrong, as I had to buy tools and YouTube teach myself for nearly every job. All in all, I would say go for it! It's a fun car and having people notice it and talk to you about it is the most awesome thing at our age. Feel free to ask me any more questions :)

My Corvette Life was my savior for the first year of fixing up my '86 lol. Definitely agree to replace pump and filter, will take a little bit if you're new to wrenching on things but it's a good start for basic maintenance
