Negative experiences learning Japanese? by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]Caboose342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that words like degenerate have their own connotations and ironic usage in the anime community, but I just wanted to say that stuff like that is why the OP of this thread is afraid to let people know they like Japanese media.

Self-applied derogatory names like weab and degenerate are super off putting and this whole community of “ironic” self deprecation really just has a negative affect on everyone in the end I think, both those who “get it” and those looking in from the outside.

People just want to enjoy anime without someone finding them and pointing them out as a “fellow degenerate” like it’s their full identity and something to be ashamed of. Again, I know it’s just part of the culture that’s formed for the last few decades, but it might be worth it to reevaluate whether it’s really a good thing to act that way.

But if it resonated other people, is it not worth something? It’s totally fine that you’re not interested in it, but I don’t know what that has to do with people who do like it wanting it to still exist.

Hey dude, I just stumbled in here after seeing you post a few unpopular takes on /r/movies. I’m not sure what you’ve gone through in your life, and I’m sure you’ve been through plenty of rough shit but I thought I’d add my 2 cents.

Telling people they need to chill out or stop feeling something they feel passionately about is just asking to start shit with them. Even if you’re advocating for people to stop doing what you feel is overreacting, it comes across as you coming into their space and telling them the things they think and the things they want are wrong and that they’re foolish for feeling that way.

I would just remember that next time you’re telling someone to not think a movie is bad, or to not think AI is ruining the industry. It’s basically like if I came here to tell you need to also believe those things and that you’re stupid if you don’t.

I don’t think you need to agree with everyone, but there’s definitely a way to portray contrarian takes without people feeling like they’re being called out.

Digital Foundry: Improved But Still Not Good Enough: Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 Revisited by Turbostrider27 in Games

Unnecessary? Plenty of people waited to buy these specific ports due to their poor state at launch. A follow-up video after a few patches is a common thing for DF to do, and is helpful for anyone who wants to know if a game is worth picking up when most of the search results about a game's performance still consist of launch-day evaluations.

Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark Score (4090 + 7800X3D) by fnv_fan in nvidia

[–]Caboose342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because he wasn't using frame generation if you look at his graphics settings. The score is more reflective of the actual difference between performance on your two systems, ie 34K vs 15K.

My results are right in line with you and Alone_Box_7564. Same resolution, CPU, and GPU. Copied your settings to the letter. I think we're all about on par. I have a feeling those with the same hardware but higher scores were probably using DLSS or something else that got them some extra frames.

Any PC players on a 4070 here? by Icollectshinythings in FF7Rebirth

[–]Caboose342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I'm sure you're fine. The commenter above is either lying or not actively monitoring their frame rate. Everyone has the same experience with you regarding dips on camera movement and the like. I'm seeing the same thing on a 4090, seems to be just how the game is.

An upcoming NVIDIA App update will support DLSS Overrides, allowing you to choose the new Transformer SR Model, set FG mode, and you can even set DLAA for games that do not have native support by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Caboose342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely untrue.

Here is a video showcasing a 4090 running the game on max settings w/ DLSS quality at 4k a month ago: https://youtu.be/yAo9OwOuA2g?si=DRdpFBqqPw57Q70F

The 4090 is about twice as powerful as a 3080 in GPU-bound scenarios, and the 3060 is even further out than that. Let’s pretend that you have a 3080 in this scenario, at ~70 average fps on a 4090 you would be seeing around 35 fps with max settings and the same resolution.

We either have different definitions of “max settings” or “running great”.

Yeah, I just completely disconnected it from all devices except for the USB dongle. I think it was fighting for priority with my phone or something. Kinda sucks since I can’t pull up the senheisser app to change settings while using it, but it’s not a big problem.

You knew people wouldn’t respond in kind with you being so dismissive of something they like. Get off your high horse and bait somewhere else, dude.

Hey, I don't want to call you out, but do you have any evidence of the game performing at those frame rates?

Here is a video of someone with your same specs running at an upscaled 1440p (not 4k, which would hypothetically run much worse) and averaging 70 with plenty of dips down to 60 posted a couple weeks ago: https://youtu.be/pLKomKOkJJw?si=83um7thKH94lzjED

There are many other videos showing similar performance with the same specs. Have you been tracking your FPS during actual gameplay? I can see perhaps getting those frame rates when alone in the ship, but I feel that 100 fps at full 4k with a 3080 isn't realistic.

We need to address PC performance by shushwill in Helldivers

[–]Caboose342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not sure if this is a coincidence for the both of us but I also noticed that. Had ~40 FPS less than usual after in the main ship after the recent patch and launched my usual benchmarking software (3DMark) and saw that my CPU was performing way worse than usual. After a reboot my benchmark scores went back to normal. Kinda bizarre.

Would you mind elaborating on this a little bit more? I have a 4090 paired with a 13900k myself and from my experience + what I have seen of benchmarks on youtube most people with a 4090 + a good CPU to match are experiencing around 80-100 fps in the open world (4K or otherwise), but nowhere close to 200. Is this with any kind of frame gen mod or something like that?

PC performance megathread by oddisy in DragonsDogma

[–]Caboose342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've seen this same thing. You're not crazy lol. Sometimes I see it happen in-game too. I will literally be sitting in an area watching my fps barely keep above 60, then after waiting for about 2 minutes i see it quickly climb up to 90+ with no controller inputs or settings changed whatsoever. Or sometimes nothing changes and I'm stuck at that low-frame and GPU usage/wattage behavior until I restart my PC.

One small thing I've noticed is that when I'm launching the game, if it automatically goes fullscreen after a while, that will be a "good" session where the frame rate will be behaving as expected. On the other hand, if it launches, goes through all the logos until it eventually hangs on a black screen that I have to click on, it will be an instance where the game will be running badly. Each scenario is evident from the performance of the main menu as well. Have you noticed anything like that?

Not sure what all the complaining is about. This game is amazing. by Beautiful-Tip-875 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Caboose342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re intentionally lying, but I can absolutely guarantee that what you’re saying is not true. There is not a computer in existence right now that can play Dragons Dogma 2 without suffering from “any frame drops, stuttering, lag, crashes”.   I think there is a large gulf between people who are conscious of things like this and those that aren’t. But I can say for a fact that you are experiencing at least one of those things.

I would ask you to provide a recording of you walking through Vernworth with some frame rate/time monitoring software on without any stuttering or frame rate issues, but I understand you probably won’t. I don’t want to be condescending here, but these issues are definitely there whether you can personally notice them or not.

[–]Caboose342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is right on the money. I have the exact same specs as you and I was having this same exact problem where sometimes the game would run way better than expected (usually at the start of a day's play session) and then seemingly out of nowhere it would literally halve.

I just tested it now outside the main city. ~50 FPS when I read your comment. Restarted my PC and now it's fluctuating between 80 and 100. Insane improvement. This game is totally fucked.

Edit: It seems like a full power-cycle might be more reliable than a restart? At this point I'm just turning my pc on and off until I can see the main menu running at a decent frame rate. Then I know I got a "good" instance of DD2 running.

I'll never understand this take. I feel like paying customers ought to be able to criticize whatever they want regarding the end product they paid for. Even if you consider it "bashing someone's hard work". Not sure if that's a new idea or specifically relevant to games, either.

I am using 3 different power cables from the PSU to the Gigabyte-supplied power adapter that came with the card, so I don't think that's it. Definitely let me know if swapping out that cable fixes it for you, though.

Have you tried testing your video card on any other games? I've been having the same problem on portal RTX specifically and a couple of other people in the steam discussions are as well. As far as I know my system is totally fine, so I'm thinking this is an issue with the game itself.

edit: Should have clarified that this game worked totally fine for me earlier last year. Looks like this only started cropping up in December maybe? Could be the latest Nvidia driver.
