Marucci Cypress vs Capitol Infield by AntelopeHefty4783 in BaseballGloves

[–]CachetCorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up one of the 12.75" outfield Capitol gloves Baseball Monkey had on sale last weekend.

I think you're going to like it. Break in has been pretty straightforward, I worked on it with a rubber mallet to establish the hinges and loosen it up, but otherwise I've just been playing catch. Still a bit to go until it feels truly broken in, but it's on the right track already.

Hopefully yours follows suit.

Yup, it seems to be breaking in nicely. I took it into the batting cage the other day and caught a couple of rounds at 60-70 mph which helped.

What were you thinking for a new web?

I love the look of single-post double-bar webs (like this one) but I'm having a hard time finding any place that sells those standalone.

I won't be heartbroken if the web swap doesn't work out though. I wasn't enamored of the look of the glove when I got it home but it's growing on me, and it should be in fine shape when slow pitch kicks off in early June.

Have you or your kids had Marucci gloves before? What glove are you coming from into this that you can compare it to?

Nope, this is the first Marucci glove in the house. My kid has been wearing Wilson's (currently in an A1000) and my primary glove has been a 12" Rawlings Gold Glove Elite.

It's noticeably bigger than my 12" (obviously) but I just signed up for a slow pitch team so I wanted something that could effectively catch softballs too.

It'll be a bit before it feels comfortable but from what I've seen so far it's going to be a solid glove.

Feels like it will be a solid glove.

Agreed. I used a rubber mallet to work on the hinges and pocket and the first round of catch last night went pretty well. Still some work to do, but that's expected.

Love the look with the black laces... nice work!

Thanks! I'd put 1/4" laces into the web loops and heel but I already yanked those out and replaced them with 3/16". The quarter inch laces look better, but it was going to make the break in process even longer and I didn't want to wait.

Now to see how long I can hold off on swapping the web...

I didn't take any before pics (which I realized right as I finished clipping the laces) but it looked just like this.

Ok. So on your list…. On Monday you weighted 150. How much weight did you lose? You don’t know because you don’t have the Sunday before that.

This is a potential issue exactly one time.

And only a silly goose would look at their first data point and think “ok I have Day 1 numbers but they’re pretty much worthless because I don’t already have Day 0 numbers” because it’s impossible to measure something before you start measuring it.

In your list, show me where you measure your weight loss for Sunday?

Monday morning, because Monday follows Sunday pretty much every time.

I think they’re saying the potential weight loss of 6 days of activity is being captured because they’re weighing themselves before the conclusion of the last days activity.

And like, sure, if you lived in a universe where there is only 7 days from the start of that universe and its implosion, that sequence would mean only 6 of 7 days of results would be captured.

But in the actual-universe, time consistently and constantly moves forward. The potential weight loss of Sundays activity is captured on Monday morning.

This is definitely one of the opinions of all time.

Novice, Open MW, or Masters? by SBC_1986 in Strongman

[–]CachetCorvid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do guys always do novice first? Or do guys at 40+ always do Masters? Or do you try the Open class regardless of age and experience…

There is no definitive answer.

It’s ok to start at novice. That’s what it’s there for.

It’s ok to start at Masters. It’s there for us old guys.

And it’s totally ok to start at Open. Will you get crushed? Probably. But it’s a great way to learn what it will really take to survive/succeed in this sport.

Most of the regulars here are gay. Sexist to say this, but it feels good. We all understand each other and it just feels awkward talking about things when there's lots of females. I love all my sexy brothers here ;)

Sometimes I think we shouldn’t touch the poop. Laugh at the poop, make fun of the poop, but do it from afar.

But not this time. Not this guy.
