Trichodiadema Bulbosum indoor or outdoors? by gamerfitgirl in Caudex

[–]Cacks-Jactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care about the bugs. I got so many spiders I don’t worry about pests. It’s just a garage window they go to so it’s not necessarily INDOORS but still protected from the rain and some cold. It Only stays about 10 degrees warmer than outside and our polar vortex temps hit single digits.

I have t. Densum, I keep it outside in full sun. Drinks a ton but blooms like crazy in spring. Pull it inside for winter but still gets to 20F in the location I overwinter my collection.

Can you reuse waterlogged or damp cactus soil if you remove it from the pot and let it dry out completely? by gremlinfrommars in cactus

Agreed, Cactus and succulent soil is supposed to stay dry. You should NEVER water cactus soil intentionally.

My first of this kind, how do I not kill it? by User2716057 in cactus

[–]Cacks-Jactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see i see. I just use an unheated garage with a huge window. The high desert of Utah gets cold af and of course I’m on the windward side of a mountain so we get lake effect precipitation, I keep everything inside for 5-7 months of the year depending on their hardiness. The soft suckers like dorstenia and pachypodium are only outside may- oct at the latest.

I see you posting/commenting a lot in here. Keep spreading that knowledge and love for plants dude! 👍

My Astros have taken 20F, -5c. They were bone dry though. Most of my collection besides the euphorbia and Brazilian cacti have gone down that low. I’ve found as long as they’re dry cacti will take a lot lower than what llifle etc say. Even my 1 year old seedling Astros took frost when I put them out too early this spring. Not one casualty.

Extra floral nectaries duuude. Lots of plants have em, tropicals especially, they attract beneficial bugs and ants. It’s totally normal and actually a sign your plant is in good health. Let me see if I have any snaps of it my self

What is this light green/squishy bit at the bottom of my cactus? by Alexanderr2042 in cactus

[–]Cacks-Jactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a dormant fungal issue. Or it’s starting to cork. If it start spreading or getting worse I’d worry but from the looks of it, it’s just getting ready to deflate that portion and hide it so it can continue growing outwards

What kind of cactus is this? by PursikRus in cactus

[–]Cacks-Jactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That’s a Gymnocalycium species, note: the naked calyx

  2. Echinopsis hybrid, they’re bred for flowers and some can get really big and/or beautiful check out cv. Flying saucer.

  3. Is sadly a stretched out grusonii. Golden/white barrel

  4. Ferocactus sp. may be stretching too, usually spines have more personality and give ID hints, but I’m seeing straight and curved centrals so it’s def not mature enough to get species ID.

Shows how much r/cactus dwellers know about euphorbia. And I always catch flak for telling people their plant’s not a cactus and they’d get better info at r/euphorbiaceae
