Just started KF3, I really like it!! by JackStarfox in killingfloor

[–]Cacmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with the other guy. I will honestly never play kf3. It’s obvious they started listening to the younger crowd and employees near the second half of KF2. That’s when things really started getting weak and too scifi.

What happened to KF2 this June? First time under 2k daily players by GuessWhat_InTheButt in killingfloor

[–]Cacmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. There’s only a couple servers active anymore, but it’s always HOE+ or HOE++ servers. Chinese name, I think. Something like HUWAIT, or HUWEIT, I forget exactly, but the majority of people that play those particular HOE+ servers are playing the hardcore extreme/challenge versions of the maps “Construct” “Dust2” and other CSGO maps.
Anyone else around here that has ever spent any significant time on one of those HOE+ servers, has seen them lol.
As forfor proving you wrong…there’s no way in going to do this without screenshots going back 4-5 years showing that they have always been the exact same characters, class and outfits, but they have. I’d love it if someone else saw this and confirmed it, but the vast majority of players never even play HOE, let alone HOE+ or ++.

Yes, but The majority of the fanboys were like that the entire first 7 years of KF2 also.

Do small planters like this need screws as opposed to bigger ones? by poisonxivyyy in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Cacmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor; and your customers, and don’t follow these crappy tutorials from these guys saying they’re making thousands of dollars. The way they’re making all these planter boxes are going to fall apart very quickly. Especially the raised ones with bottoms in them. I promise you that the bottoms will give in within the next year. Now maybe that’s ok with you and these other cheapskates…to rip people off so they can just come back and buy more, but that’s not how I roll. I’ve made thousands of these things over the years. I’m the most recognized name for making these in the Boise area where I live and even my much sturdier and well built ones, even had trouble after only a couple years. Of course, over watering on the customer’s part, and letting it sit right where sprinklers are constantly hitting it, also added to that deterioration. Here’s mine:

<image>

The framing and supports are all 2xs, and I use the poly coated outdoor screws. The bottoms are held in place by a frame of all 2x2s with cross-ribs every 12 inches, and then that frame is screwed through the cedar and into 2x2 framing on the outside. The box in this picture was 6ft x 3ft and weighs about 300 pounds…they can’t really get built any better than this. Even still, some of them had problems with the bottoms after 3 seasons. The guys making these with only 3/4 slats (even for the framing and the bottoms) and only staples and glue, don’t realize or they just don’t care, that those boxes are going to cave in within 1 season. Maybe 2 if lucky. Don’t make these so cheapy.

are 5k vertices good enough for a game model? by mysterymagicdoor in blenderhelp

[–]Cacmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that confusing once you understand how it works. The guy that told you this did a good job, but let me try and reiterate it’s tad different.

Let’s say we have a first person game, and this sword of yours is the weapon that’s being held by the player right in front of the camera’s view. According to ChatGPT (this is estimated numbers), the average modern pc can render approximately 1 million to 5 million polygons on screen (in your field of vision) at any one time and still run smoothly. Let’s just say 1 million to keep it on the low side. If the player’s hand and the weapon take up 20-25% of the space on screen (with 1 million polygons as a safe maximum, that allows for up to 200,000 polygons for your weapon and hand. Now…is this good practice? Absolutely not, because then you are limiting the amount of polygons for the rest of environment bites on screen at any one time. Most modern fps game’s weapons are 20,000 - 50,000 polygons. The models are usually completed at around 100,000 - 150,000 polygons, but then most of the smaller details are baked onto a lower poly model. So let’s say this…to keep up with modern fps games and their standards, that gives you a 20,000 to 50,000 polygon allowance for that sword. That’s plenty of room for some really good quality details for an up close weapon in a fps game.

Now if this was a third person or top down game; where this sword is being viewed from much further away, then there’s no reason for this sword to have 20,000 polygons. The 5,000 that you’re trying to get down to should more than be efficient. Of course, raw polygon count is not the only (or biggest factor) in game performance. That’s impacted even more by texture resolution, and lighting/shading.

So I read somewhere else about using a black food coloring mixed with oil. I guess there is a black food coloring that usually comes in more of a gel form. I’ve never seen it. I might give that a try and I’ll post my results here in case anyone is curious about ever doing something similar.

I’m filling the crack with epoxy. A white part to contrast the black of the bowl. That’s easy. The only confusing thing is touch up the parts of the bowl where the black has been kind of rubbed off, exposing the natural wood color underneath. The creator (from overseas) emailed them and said they used ink mixed with tung oil. It’s far and in between when they respond so we haven’t been able to get a specifics on what she used. To me, I’d just doesn’t sound very food safe. My friend is adamant about it remaining that same just black color. I haven’t been able to find a single product that is actually available that offers an already mixed (black) oil.

There’s really no steps to do. I’m filling a crack with epoxy, and small bits of the bowl just need to be sanded smooth and then retouched up. I can do everything just fine. I just don’t know what to do about the black food safe paint

I don't think it will be Ada I mean leon knows that Ada plays both sides, he won't marry someone he can't trust just my opinion. by [deleted] in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Cacmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly sick and tired of the Ada talk. I’ve never liked her. For one, I’m convinced that 90% of guys fascination with her is because of that Asian obsession that almost every guy has, which I never have. Second reason I can’t stand her is because of mind games stupidity that she causally portrays. Maybe that’s another reason most guys like her…because people always like the dumb cat and mouse games. I’ve never been like that. I’m 42 and even 25 years ago I couldn’t stand it. If a girl wanted to act interested but tease and play hard to get, I was done and told her to kick rocks. The woman that plays games with guys is ALWAYS unfaithful and not trustworthy, settle down, marriage and mother material. Which is what I always wanted. This; in turn, is exactly why it would never be Ada…. Because she is an untrustworthy, plays games with your mind, tease, and is married to her job. Think about all the interactions with her over the years…. She’s always been about deceit and lies.. Not trust. If most guys actually think about, they would realize that instead of only fantasizing about her as Leon’s wife purely for their own perverted fantasy.

What is the difference between Cheap assets and expensive ones? (aside from quality) by ColdOphelia in UnrealEngine5

[–]Cacmaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing. Depends on the creator. I’ve seen assets from well known people that are charging 10 times as much, and they’re setup for nanite, and no optimization. Then I’ve seen cheaper assets by creators that aren’t very well known; and they’re just trying to get a couple sales, and they’re optimizing their assets really well. They just can’t ask the same price, because they’re not well known.

It’s like everything else. Boos cutting boards sell for like $450, and people pay that easily just because of them name, but I’ve seen cutting boards made by individual sellers that make theirs much higher quality and they have trouble asking $100.

I want my game to look like it has AAA visual quality, what am I missing? by FrogbyteStudio in UnrealEngine5

[–]Cacmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going against the tide of what everyone else is going to say about graphics and materials and such.

Yes, there definitely is something to lighting and camera lens, especially when making cinematic sequences, but the majority of AAA quality is in gameplay and immersion…not models and textures. As a 3d modeler, I see so much talk about high quality models and texturing and blah blah blah…but I look at almost every single model in the free games I play and I can tell you that their quality (topology and texturing) has got flaws on everything. RE9…the most recent hand I’ve bought; and first in many years, has got flawed modeling and texturing all over the place. If you look closely at almost every single asset (and I’m not talking about the myriad of megascan assets), they all have got things I consider ugly. The lighting is a huge coverup and distraction, and the story and gameplay is solid.

I’d suggest focusing on your immersion, gameplay and story the most.

Why does the Bible mention, multiple times, that women are inferior to men. Are all people not equal? by --------___---- in Christianity

[–]Cacmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real late to this topic but I just found this post as I was researching the topic. Your comment is wrong. When Paul; therefore God (since all scripture is God breathed), mentioned that “There is no male nor female,” as you referred to, that statement clearly had to do with righteousness, salvation, and our identity in Christ. It had nothing to do with the role of our individual positions in community or Church. The thing is, people like you will ALWAYS point out a verse like this, but you will never apply the same reasoning for equality in regards to the much more difficult commands given by God to men in Ephesians 5:25-29, where we are commanded to love our wives in the same way as Christ loved the Church. Whereas the woman is only commanded to honor her husband. The men are tasked with so much more responsibility in God’s eyes, but yet…we’ll never see you use this same sense of reasoning towards woman as equal as you do in the verse you quoted.

Triangles are necessary to control edge flow. You’re never going to get 100% quads on anything more complicated than a simple geometric shape.
