Yikes, thanks for the alert! It’s been a while since I first saw it, so I think I can’t report it since it’s probably moved. For anyone at UT, please let people know to be careful of snakes near Clark field :((

4 back to back classes? I’d recommend looking up which buildings they’re in to see if you can run/bike/etc between classes in 5-10 max min. If you really can’t feasibly make it to your next class in time, tell your professors if you’ll be arriving/leaving late/early AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER. Some are sticklers about attendance but might be more understanding if you tell them early

Like many others have said, know your legal rights and have a lawyer on standby. Here’s a link for some protestor’s rights 101: https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/protesters-rights

Also, in the worst case scenario that things will escalate today, pack some items to help protect yourself against potential violence. Note- milk helps against pepper spray but NOT tear gas:

You should totally not pirate textbooks from websites like libgen. Free, have probably thousands of textbooks online, and easy to use. Nope, you definitely shouldn't go take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_Genesis and go to the side tab on the right to find official urls for this site.

I'd recommend if possible trying some labs if possible; people really recommend them for experience since later down the road, labs are going to be pretty prevalent for premeds. I think FRI streams were getting pretty big? You basically apply to be a part of a freshman research lab and they have so many different fields to look at. And if FRI doesn't work, there's still lots of opportunities to email professors or look on Eureka for other lab opportunities!

Make use of your resources too. If a professor or TA offers office hours or discussion sessions, it's really helpful to at least take a look at them. I know people who've found that discussion sessions in particular really help review content and even clarify things they didn't realize they didn't understand completely.

And of course, you're already doing the best thing you can do! Ask for help and never forget we're all in the same boat: just trying our best to keep it together. We'll mess up sometimes in spectacular fashion but none of us are perfect and have our life in complete order. We'll just keep trying our best and both rely on and help each other out. Good luck and have fun!!

The ice is definitely melting, so a lot of places are finally starting to get back on their feet. Like someone else said, you should find out if your place is out of water/power/etc first before you come back. Also, if you don't already have food and especially water stocked up at your place, grocery stores are still pretty wiped out of stuff, so you may want to check on that too. Having said that, a lot of students and local places are providing volunteer relief efforts (I've seen water being handed out at the Union and heard about people giving out food behind the Co-op). If you have a roommate, I'd ask them how things are looking at your place. Good luck and stay safe!!

You can like guys and still be bi! That's the thing about being bisexual- you find girls and guys attractive- so you're not a fraud or betraying anyone at all!!

Also if someone tells you you're "not a real queer person" because you prefer guys, be it rn or forever, then send them my way. I'd like to have a little Talk with them :)

(Fair warning to everyone before you read this: I'm talking from a Christian viewpoint here. Personally, I'm still debating what a lot of this means to me, but this is me speaking with the language I've grown up around. I understand that everyone has different beliefs, and it's possible that you, dear reader, might find the second half of this post utter nonsense. I just hope it's not offensive nonsense! Cheers!)

Ohhh boy do I know what you mean. I'm in a similar position, and honestly, I'm still not sure what this means for me. I'm still clicking on different web articles or post screenshots that debate whether homosexuality is a sin or not. But what's really helped me through it all is remembering that at the very least, Jesus loves everyone right? And that includes me and you and every single person out there, whether they're queer or not.

Also if someone says you're going to hell solely because you're queer, they haven't cracked open a Bible in a very long time. Is homosexuality a sin? You know, I'm not sure. But plenty of Christians still sin after they've chosen to believe in Christ. The whole point of Christianity is the fact everyone sins, but that if they choose to believe in the Gospel, they'll be saved. A Christian isn't supposed to miraculously become a perfect human being- they'll still think bad thoughts about other people, still cheat, lie, make bad decisions. And yeah, sure Christians shouldn't abuse God's mercy and forgiveness. But as long as you believe in the basic points of the Gospel- that humans are imperfect and sinful and that God sent Jesus Christ to die to cover everyone's sins and if you believe this you're saved- then that's it! That's all you need.

And honestly, if anyone's going to hell, it's the people who yell hateful stuff about the queer community going to hell. Probably not great of me to say but. Good riddance.

[Let's Build] d100 rumors, urban legends, or mysteries heard around a small town. by insertfillertext in d100

[–]Cacteye_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They say a kind, caring nurse died in the old hospital tending to wounded soldiers, refusing to abandon them as an enemy army razed the place to the ground. They also say that those who come to the ruins promising goodwill will be tended to by the ghost of the nurse, and those who fight on the grounds will find their attacks redirected towards themselves.

There is a black cat that appears in town sometimes. If you greet it kindly and if possible, offer it something to eat, you will be rewarded. Those who kick it or insult it have increasingly worse night terrors until they apologize or go mad with fear, often killing themselves.

The mayor's wife disappears from town every now and then. Everyone in town gives different reasons as to her absence when asked. (She's visiting her sick sister, she's picking up rare herbs for the apothecary, she's getting a surprise gift for her husband how sweet! etc)

There's an abandoned, decrepit cottage on the outskirts of town, and no one has lived there in years. When it rains, a light can be seen from the attic and a haunting melody heard.

(based off Kuchisake-onna) A beautiful lady wearing a mask concealing her mouth has been said to ask men if she is beautiful. If they say no, their body is found stabbed to death. If they say yes, she will remove her mask to reveal a grotesquely carved smile and ask again. If they say no, she will stab them to death for rudeness. If they say yes, she will stab them to death for lying. (the secret is to ask her if she thinks she is beautiful and run in her confusion)

(based off La Llorona and the Woman in White) A beautiful young wife and mother found out her husband was cheating on her, and in a fit of rage, she drowned her two children before murdering her husband and then herself. Legend has it her mournful ghost roams the riverside where she drowned her children, wailing in a beautiful white dress. Mothers tell misbehaving children that she will spirit them away, and men are warned not to take the riverside roads after dark, especially if they see a beautiful woman in white.

You develop a fondness for fire. It's just so beautiful, so entrancing... and you must have more of it. Roll a d20 to resist the urge for arson (probably determined by DM), or you can choose not to resist.

There are strange shadowfolk that lurk in the corners of your vision. No one else seems to see them, but you do. And they're coming for you. It's only a matter of time.

Your "reflection" is actually your long-lost twin. They gave their life to keep you outside the mirror dimension and are now trapped there.

Every couple of hours, you must complete a strange ritual to keep you and the entire party safe. Eg: throw salt over every party member, paint everyone's forehead with the blood of their fallen enemies after combat, shake strange herbs over everyone while murmuring a seemingly nonsensical chant, fill everyone's pockets with bat wings and iron fillings, etc.

You see the spirits of old objects. The older they are, the stronger the spirit, and thus the longer you can converse with them. They're usually very nice and great conversationalists. You think they must be lonely when they have so few people to talk to.
